Let's say you want to scam some stupid people and get their coins. You know people are greedy and dumb as shit.. what do you do?
Right, create a new coin with endless supply, pre mine it, distribute malware wallets which will infect the computers and steal some coins that have actual value, let massive amounts of give away threads be created by the stupid community itself, BINGO.

I think the current state of affairs regarding alt coins is very daunting for newcomers and will hurt the crypto market in the long run.
This forum resembles everything which is wrong with crypto currency at the moment. It is full of greedy people just trying to make the quick buck, manipulating others, spreading lies, trying to make their own coins benefit at the cost of the truth, at the cost of others, at the cost of crypto currency in general.
Also look at how many copy clone coins are being spammed here every day. There is not even a critical judgement of these new coins anymore. Every new coin is labeled as the next big thing and to da moon.. just because everybody wants to make the quick bug and because people have their mining setup in place and need to throw it at something new and hope to make up for the costs.
If you take an outside perspective on all of this it is quite laughable actually.. the community destroys itself instead of taking the incredible head start advantage everyone on here still has out of pure greed.
I don't believe the market is mature enough to handle this.. my assumption is that we are building up a bubble which will pop rather sooner than later due to all the pumping. Maybe when everything is shattered, the second run for the alt coin community will go down better..

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: I created MyAltCoins to track all your cryptocurrency assets

As I mentioned before, it would be good to be optionally able to enter the exchange rate instead of the quantity for the source of a transaction as this is what you get from your transaction history on the various marketplaces usually.
I will try to implement it somehow Also it would be nice if you would have some copy/paste functions for the bigger marketplaces. E.g. if I go to my transaction history on Vircurex, it would be cool to just copy the table from there and paste it to your site and it picks out the transactions automatically from that data. If you could offer this for a few of the bigger marketplaces, this would be very convenient.
I just pushed the first of a big list of auto-importers (Cryptsy). I will then try mtgox since i have some transactions there, and finally Vircurex Stay tuned! The exchange rates are outdates? Does it take the latest or 24hr average? Anyway, looks nice, really useful, would donate if everything would be updated in realtime The prices are updated every 5 minutes. Doing realtime would be a mess (and pointless beside in a day like today... grrr china!) Great to hear, thank you for your effort! The site is really neat.

looks cool but am i missing something here?
What does it mean to create a transaction? I just wanna submit my coins and see the btc value. Any way to do this without those 'transactions' ?
You enter your previously completed transactions there in order to have the data on the site so that it can show you graphs and changes in value. As I mentioned before, it would be good to be optionally able to enter the exchange rate instead of the quantity for the source of a transaction as this is what you get from your transaction history on the various marketplaces usually. Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Which Alt Coin will see the most growth in 2014?

We are talking about the most growth - so percentage of growth, not the conversion rate towards BTC I assume. I don't quite get a lot of the votes so far, but I guess it is down to people trying to be manipulative.
Assuming that crypto currencies really take off in terms that we really buy things with them, I would put my money on PeerCoin due to their good concept.
If we have another year like 2013, I am trending towards DevCoin. I like their concept, the ease of being able to receive contribution points by writing is very attractive as well and it is cheap currently. I can see it hit 0.01 BTC mid term, which would already be an enormous growth rate.
