1. yes. 2. nothing really. artforz had most of the blocks on the bitcoin network back in the day mining with his closed source opencl miner on 4870s. asicminer had most of the hashrate in late 2012-2013 with asics. XMR is like an accelerated version of bitcoin in many ways aside from just emission. |

My pending balance has been the same for 3 hours. However, there were a number of blocks found.
i think i'm seeing the same thing ... anyone know the pool op? minimum non-dust output on the network is now 0.10 XMR on the latest daemon, so your payouts may take longer. i can tell from the pool's blocks that he's running the latest daemon, so just be patient. |

Ok, dude, we are pool ops and we are paying tx fees from our profits. Now, when fee raised 20 times, it's significant impact. We just not ready. BTW, you can donate to https://github.com/zone117x/node-cryptonote-pool so he will collaborate with devs in order to provide smooth migration for both miners and pool ops when major update to tx fees come. We will be fixing this in the near future and are sorry for the inconvenience. However, keep in mind that people will also be paying you 0.1 XMR per transaction that you include in your block, so you may actually make more money than lose it by upgrading. |

why does this matter? don't they have to pay higher tx fee for higher mixing count? Isn' this equivalent to if a whole bunch of people were using xmr as a currency
Current tx fees are very low to keep XMR accessible to all users (about 1 cent per 24.4 KB), but would allow a user with bad intentions to spam about 300 MB into the blockchain each day. Someone has decided to abuse our blockchain in an act of malevolence. We will be deploying immediate patches to pools to cope with this update. Expect a mandatory update today. |

Can't we cap the mixins to reduce tx size? Help me understand how mixins should be controlled.
Yeah, you can scan the signature lengths and determine the size of mixins, but they can still spam with lower mixins by just making lots of outs. A more suitable solution is in the works. |

Tacotime noted it some time ago, but noted that he "hadn't looked in to it extensively."
We should ideally zero out the 32 bytes so no one can execute these commands, I think. Any user is welcome to do that for themselves, but I haven't stuck it into master yet. |

Monero is currently under attack with a spam attack, while no other CN coin seems to be. The attacker is spamming tx with random, large mixins (initially only mixin 101 was used, until I called them out on it in the official thread). CN coins will likely require about an order of magnitude more bandwidth than Bitcoin, yeah. Is there no way to theoretically mitigate this issue or is it inherent to the tech? It's inherent to the tech. You might be able to cut it about 50% with gmaxwell/andytoshi's proposal to remove denominations. |

No that's not right. On average every peer receives and transmits each transaction once. Unless you are some kind of supernode (i.e. not a home connection) you won't be getting anywhere near petabytes. On a home connection (sort of the opposite of a supernode) you will likely just receive the transaction once and not send any appreciable fraction of them to any of your peers because they will likely already have them by the time you do.
Yes there will be some inefficiency here, but not (even close to) 100x.

Gavin says 7 TB, certainly not petabytes, and he says his home internet connection could theoretically handle 45k transactions per second (though currently monthly bandwidth limits would prevent this -- in the future who knows). With retransmission and other P2P ineffiencies with many peers at that network speed the bandwidth usage is probably in petabytes. |

I do have a question about this. (I'm very very simpleton in crypto terms - so please don't eat me)
I understand in theory the blockchain shouldn't be an issue. Even cryptonote (I was reading about how the blockchain when it grew to BTC size would be 10X as big as BTC). But as a consumer downloading a 20GB database is a fairly big deal with my internet connection. (I understand I can use litewallets that sync with other servers)
But isn't the blockchain size fairly relevant to keeping decentralization in the sense that bitcoin was originally invented - to be duplicated across hundreds of thousands of consumer machines? Even at 20GB - with my internet connection I really don't want to download the entire blockchain ...
To even host a full node in a few years will likely consume terabytes to petabytes of data in a month -- this goes for Bitcoin, let alone any of the alts. If you can provide this bandwidth, you can be a full node. As it stands, without running dedicated hosts on corporate connections, most people will never be able to run full nodes, regardless of even their storage space. The real issue restricting centralization is bandwidth, and I doubt this will ever be solved, because you need all the block and tx data that is shipped out across the network. Gavin's latest proposal is a way to optimize it to perhaps 20-50% less bandwidth usage (aside from making syncing much more rapid), but the bandwidth issue still exists and is severe. So, basically, the idea of totally decentralized full nodes on any cryptocurrency that is even marginally popular is a moot point: it's never going to be the case that ever household in the US is sitting around running a Bitcoin full node because of the bandwidth usage. Perhaps there are ways to form miniature consensus networks on top of the Bitcoin network to address this, but I'm not exactly sure how. |

Perhaps we should refute those claims specifically. The posters here may interested to hear why XCN is not a major advance and a novel solution (I realise it cannot be , because otherwise there would be more buying interest in the XCN market) to blockchain memory and bloat issues.
There must be a number of other alts addressing those issues more successfully (without the shill peddlers)
Mini blockchain (as I understand it) is basically a bitcoin blockchain with an attached ledger (a utxo set). The utxo set is in sync to the network. You can do this on any bitcoin blockchain by pushing some data in the coinbase tx (via OP_RETURN, or whatever) that contains a merkle proof of your utxo set and the merkle root of it (if you're storing your utxo ledger as a merklelized trie). If the proof or root in your coinbase is invalid, the block will be rejected by the network. I'm not 100% sure where this is stored in the mini blockchain scheme, but this is the idea. Bitcoin SPV clients are already doing something similar, although the majority of them with full node activity (eg Maaku's) aren't really production. When you have a ledger like this, you can just discard the blocks themselves after a certain amount of time, if not immediately, so long as your ledger is sufficient to provide network consensus 100% of the time.
