I can't compromise the network, and it can reach infinity until a client with the capacity to 'prune' spent transactions from the old blocks is developed. Pruning of the blockchain is part of the protocol, but isn't implimented yet, and likely won't be for some time. It probably isn't going to become a priority until the blockchain is around the 10-20 GB range.
If the pruning of block chain is part of the protocol, where is it written? I looked for several articles and found nothing about it. If this information is official, it makes sense. |

Imagine that it has become popular in large scale in a short time, the size of the database could be increased so incredible, and make it slower, no? As far this size can reach? It can compromise the network?  Mining pools and exchanges can help control the size of the blockchain by increasing the minimum amount they work with. If pools would transfer 1 bitcoin at a time instead of 0.1 or even 0.01, you'd reduce the size of the blockchain considerably. I know this, but if the number of users increase bitcoin in a very fast, worldwide, the demand would be incalculable. With existing pools and exchanges will not be enough to balance this. |

My up-to-date blk001.dat is "only" 528MB. The blkindex.dat is 216MB. Where did you get that 1GB+ ?
I installed bitcoin on a new machine now, and I finished downloading all the blocks. The folder "database" was to 1.10GB, and blkindex and blk0001 together added 752mb. Very simple: Future Clients might use a binary data format and / or compression, there are large amounts of redundant information.
I dont understand, why I had to download almost 2GB of data then? I not understand it, but I think everyone who install bitcoin from today will download the same amount of data in an ever increasing volume, is not? Where are the compression? |

Benefits are better PSU efficiency (~3%) and higher load on same wire size.
Someone told me it would not work (or break) because the 240v of Europe is not the same as 240v in America, his argument was about phases and how the 240 is made from the 3 wire.
Personally I would simply change the breakers, identify the outlets as 240v and take the risk.
What could go wrong ?
I would suggest you change the outlets to Schuko or, well, any that are used in 220-240V countries, then you will be less likely to plug a 120V device to 240V outlet. Anyway, I read somewhere that 240V in US is made from two 120V live wires 180 degree out of phase. I do not know if that's true or not (I live in Europe so I have no way to check), but in Europe 230V (it can be 220-240 depending on the country) is single phase (meaning you get one live wire and one neutral). I also do not know what the effects of split phase 240V would be on the devices (maybe none). Also, the frequency in Europe is 50Hz, so, for example, a synchronous motor will spin faster in the US. Here in my town (Blumenau, in Brazil), our voltage is 220v, delivered just two wires (phase and neutral). But we have the option to request a tri-phase power (330V), making the energy more efficient (be my next upgrade).  |

Seguinte, como a maioria dos frequentadores do fórum sabem, estamos trabalhando forte no projeto da primeira pool Brasileira de Bitcoin.
Porém para tal feito, precisamos dimensionar o hardware, e ter ideia de quantos brasileiros estão dispostos a se juntar a nós.
Para isso, pensamos em juntar a galera aqui do fórum, junto com os amigos e conhecidos de cada um, que estão minerando também, em um time no Deepbit.
O Deepbit hoje possui uma estabilidade invejável, e eu particularmente tenho minerado melhor nele, minha média nele é sempre superior ao BTCGuild, isso é uma das coisas que justifica a cobrança de taxas. Porém no meu ponto de vista, são irrisórias se a gente levar em conta a séria de beneficios que ele nos oferece.
A ideia é o seguinte, a gente convencionar um nome pra nossa "turma", ou "time", como vocês preferirem, e se juntar lá.
O fato da gente formar um time, não quer dizer que vamos minerar sozinhos, todos continuamos na pool da Deepbit, porém nossas velocidades e shares são somados separadas, para conseguirmos ter uma noção de força da galera aqui, e dimensionar da forma mais precisa possível o hardware da nossa pool Brasileira, de uma forma que não precisemos cobrar taxas, e consigamos oferecer os mesmos beneficios da Deepbit, e a mesma estabilidade.
