181  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread -100% Original Codebase - Over 70 Team Members on: April 09, 2015, 08:38:44 PM

Seems to be doing good to me - if NEM is only on one exchange and yet it is clearly beating NXT in real volume.  I don't count the NXT volume from the asset exchange / multigateway as that all whales doing phantom trades like trading into their own buy / sell walls.  Looks like when NEM gets on other exchanges the volume is going to shoot up.

Besides outside of the top 4 (not counting temporary pumps) - almost no alternate has real volume.  Even BTS is at $40K now, which isn't that much bigger than NEM's, and it's also kind of dangerous too.  IIRC - Larimer was telling about how the delegates were making like $2500 a month - well there's 101 of them so that's $8000 a day they can be dumping down with (in addition to any bagholders / dolphins / whales that could, decide one day, to dump their stash).

Yup, truth be told if this were any other newly released crypto, odds are it would be doing substantially worse - this is because the entire crypto world is in a massive slump. The hype has passed and only a select minority are really doing the heavy trading.

NEM needs to break new ground in terms of marketing if it wants to turn some heads. Else some other coin is inevitably going to do it.

NEM's already had a great start, may as well run with that momentum to greater heights.

I'm also prepared to donate to legitimate, trustworthy causes to help a NEM marketplace flourish.
183  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NODE Revolution: "Money is a means of payment, not speculation" (с) on: April 02, 2015, 12:41:03 PM
I stated a hundred or more pages ago that the problem with the coin was a lack of community. I see that is still the case.

Blaming the devs because they're not doing 100% of the heavy lifting is pretty pathetic, especially when citing "how a coin should work" when no community of willing participants has formed underneath it.

It cost many people ZERO to be involved in this coin. It cost others some BTC to do so. If you haven't learnt by now, in the several years we've had in this new frontier of virtual currencies, how to hedge your losses or back long term, then you're as bad as all those before you who complain that someone else hasn't made them rich quickly.

Noone held a gun against your head to buy into this product and it's the same as ALL other similar products on the market in that it requires a community to actually form and provide crowd-sourced help in soft skills such as marketing and promotion. The devs are coding and creating fiscal companies and brokering business deals - the community should be able to handle some simple fucking promotion. But it can't, and it wont, because there isn't a real community.

TLDR; stop fucking whining and start doing. All I see in this thread are sycophants, speculators and whiners. The only motive anyone has in this thread seems to be (from an outside observer) singular, personal gain. I have approx. 2BTC (EXPENSIVE BTC also, not today's prices BTC) sunk into NODE and I'm happy to wait it out unlike the vast majority posting in this thread.

This is ultimately the problem at BTT -- most people are either busy scamming, fudding or otherwise out for singular gains.
184  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Launch 31st March[Updates&Discussion] on: March 31, 2015, 07:39:25 PM
Installed, ran, synced, and node up. Absolutely no problems at all.

Awesome stuff guys. You have my thanks!
185  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Launch 31st March[Updates&Discussion] on: March 31, 2015, 05:58:19 PM
Servers - ready to go.

Just need that new client and i'm ready to party with some nodes.

Best of luck to all involved - and many thanks to the devs. Eager to see this one fly to great heights.

Speaking of the client, any place i should be watching for immediate access to the full release? I assume NEM.IO right?
186  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: March 30, 2015, 01:14:25 PM
Here is my post with working links(newsletter and countdown timer), please stop quoting the posts with broken links. Thanks.

This is precisely my point (post above yours). Misinformation is easily spread through quotes on forums and this is exactly how malicious keyloggers and such would get spread. People need to be mindful of this.
187  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - NEM is launching![Updates&Discussion] on: March 30, 2015, 01:10:19 PM
what to do now? waiting until l(a)unch tomorrow to get our xem or how we get the xem?? will there be a new version to type the public and private key?

Yes they will release a new client at launch which you have to download and enter your private key etc. you received during redemption process. After logging in you should see your XEM in your account.

With this in mind i'd like to spread some awareness:

This would be the prime time scammers and dishonest people would likely start flooding nem threads with bogus links to the "client" in order to steal your private wallet details.

Remember to double check the authenticity of any links before you commit to clicking them. Avoid clicking links from quotes and suchlike as quotes are so easily altered.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=985422.120;topicseen

The conclusion I can draw from here is that people are generally apathetic towards Altcoins or even BTC.

We can see that there is generally a more devoted community in NEM. Our presence is generally felt and even in such apathetic circumstances, we are still miles ahead of more publicised coins like XCP, Storj, GEMZ and Maidsafe. This augurs well for NEM.

Having undoubtedly established a strong foothold in the grassroot support (by way of a seemingly whale-less distribution and the widest pre-mined distribution ever recorded in its time), the time is right for us to springboard ourselves into the main Dojo and fight our way to the top. I believe we have the fundamental platform to do so.

NEM's unique algorithm will encourage trade too, and in the initial phases this will be crucial in establishing a foundation in which to build upon. For Bitcoin, it was "mining" which largely appealed to the growing number of tech-minded people, this widened the number of people who held bitcoin and in turn, helped to grow a trading hub for goods and services (IE: Dark web).

If NEM is going to grow, people are going to have to look far further then crypto exchanges.
189  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: March 27, 2015, 12:13:02 PM
Looking forward to it.
190  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: March 04, 2015, 01:36:08 PM
Also, there is a secret project that will be announced that will be a huge boost to usability.

Looking forward to it Wink

I can live with these, seeing as they honor the previous logo vote and don't deviate too much from the original logo.

This one is also good, but the fact that it's so radically different puts me off - because for me, it disregards the legitimacy of the last vote. Now if they changed that red triangle to the more traditional NEM logo with the NEM colours, that i could certainly live with

Like this:

(You could alternatively remove the orange triangle entirely.)

And yes, a massive no from me for any bird logo. That is territory already taken and with plenty of political/negative connotations associated with it.
192  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: March 01, 2015, 09:47:08 PM
Out of the new logo's i saw, the only ones that simply made sense were the ones that took the original logo and improved upon it.

It seems to me going down a whole new route and creating something entirely new just sorta poops in the face of the previous votes. For me, it's a huge no-no to the bird logo's.
193  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: February 25, 2015, 12:39:52 AM
This nonsense, we need a LAUNCH! Not a logo. My stakes has been stuck now over 3 months. Really afraid how the price will behave after the launch
Considering the performance of even the most shittest of shitcoins (And there's alot), i think NEM will have nothing to worry about. Not by a long shot.
194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: February 24, 2015, 07:19:02 PM
Obvious stall is obvious

What stall? And how is it obvious?

This attempt to find a new logo is a obvious ploy to delay the launch even further. The current logo is absolutely perfect for NEM, why do you need to go through a whole long process to design a new one? The only reason : to delay the launch further. You guys did the same with the change of the total coin supply, where the community debated for weeks on what the total coin supply should be.

Let's not beat around the bush here, NEM was supposed to be launched November last year, we are now near March and NEM still hasn't launched yet, nor does it look likely to launch anytime soon.

whether the logo is worked on now or not has absolutely ZERO effect on launch of nem or launch of mobile app. two/three completely separate groups of people are working on these things with zero overlap. so the logo can in no way shape or form, affect when the other two will be released.

Kod is right. Although I agree the logo discussion is pointless, this will not influence NEM's launch.

Pointless?

I wouldn't go that far. When the topic of a new logo appeared, i immediately thought "Nope" and voted against it. This was before we saw any of these excellent new designs.

I take the stance that anything on the subject of NEM isn't pointless. It's good to have these discussions because it's part of being a community, and controversy is going to come with that package -- way of the world.

Calling it "pointless" just encourages this misconception that it's simply wasting time, time that others would say should be "Focusing on release". If by "focusing on release" we see no discussions, and people simply twiddling their thumbs until that date, we're not really succeeding at communicating and sharing idea's like a decent community would.

And, as I and Kody have said, these discussions, whether they be about the NEM logo or what pizza toppings their first NEM bought pizza will have, will not have any interference with the team working on the coin -- i think people need to get this out of their head.
195  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: February 23, 2015, 01:53:54 PM
....
It is the principle of the national management founded on the Kopny right. Nobody will be able more by nonsense to start comic votes and to take away time from developers from very important work - creation of the perfect decentralized network.
.....

What this guy is saying (Assuming your translation is correct) is again, discussion or votes on the subject of the logo is going to interfere with NEM's development. To reiterate what i said:

No, it won't.

Last time i checked, the dev team is just that, a team, a team of whome have roles to play. Those coding are doing precisely that - coding. They're not here fufilling PR roles (at least not to any massive extent) other people on the team do this for them. There is no harm in discussing and voting. It's part of being a community. Clearly this is not going to hinder the development of NEM.

As someone else said previously; NEM needs to have a professional logo so that it can be marketed right. The technology can only go so far, because average joe cannot comprehend what it can do FOR THEM. Let the marketing speak on behalf of the tech, then the tech will speak on behalf of the crypto.

People are not as savvy as those within the crypto circles, which, in comparison to most markets, is quite a small one dominated by a few big players -- something I hope to see NEM rectify with it's unique distribution. Common opinion of those in the crypto world need to change mentality pretty sharpish, because it's exactly this that holds it back from more widespread adoption.

What i see here is typical impatience from those in cryptoworld because many of them are just eager to jump on these limited markets, attempt to manipulate, then cash out some profits. NEM has made enough progress to show some hope it's not going to go down this road. May as well make the efforts to get the logo right, too.

I'd also like to state that i also voted "No" in changing the logo, up until i saw these professionally rendered alternatives. Now my hearts changed.
196  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: February 23, 2015, 10:23:29 AM
I feel discussions are not going to get very far - people (understandably so) feel strongly about not changing the logo, yet now these new designs have come to light i see no reason not to reconsider a logo change, especially as others do express a liking to these new ones.

I think for the sake of honoring the previous vote/discussion, the current nem logo should be included in any vote that also includes these new (and improved -imo) ones.

One thing i don't understand is why people feel this in any way hinders or postpones the development of NEM - the devs are working on the platform regardless, and if the logo did change, it's not exactly an ordeal to edit the logo in the client. Better now than later that's for sure.

There is no harm in discussing -- or even voting -- for a logo, it's just unfortunate that some people can't do so in a civil manner because of their preconceived notions that this is somehow interfering with dev's work. Lol.
197  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: February 22, 2015, 09:44:33 PM
JUST LEAVE THE LOGO ALONE DAMMIT!

WHY FIX WHAT IS NOT BROKEN? THE CURRENT ONE IS GOOD!

NUFF SAID, THATS MY RANT FOR TODAY!

I shared this sentiment up until i saw these new ones. They are all very good.

The vote will be interesting - if nem changed it's logo to one of the ones in the vote, i'd have no problem with it.
198  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption ends[Updates&Discussion] on: February 16, 2015, 05:21:01 PM
this thread just got amazingly cleaner and positive after I found and used the ignore option Smiley

The more FUDsters and trolls on the scene, the more it's apparent that NEM is the real deal.

Cloud, silver lining Wink.
199  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] NODE Revolution: "Money is a means of payment, not speculation" (с) on: February 15, 2015, 03:34:48 PM
exchanges, the surefire way to damage crypto's reputation.

Glad i got my node a week or so before this happened Wink
200  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Redemption extended[Updates&Discussion] on: February 12, 2015, 10:26:28 PM

"Hammer and sickle" (even if humorous) especially combined with red background, can give some bad connotations... I wouldn't bring this up here :>

+1

Reminds me too much of the soviet era... Nuff said! lol

Why not overwhelm it with some positive connotations? Bung a swastika in there as well.

I lol'ed.
