Apologies, but NXT gets a vote from this one.
482  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: February 17, 2014, 10:22:32 PM
Aye, and might as well read: "A new economy (etc)"  rather than "We start a new economy (etc)"

We better make damn sure we do a good job at all them giveaways and charities ans stuff because for now we're still 3000 millionaires waiting 'till the ship comes in.

speaking of which

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuEOf5nrmzo

Yes just "A new economy (etc)" could be more concise. Let me think about it a bit. Anyone else prefers just "A new economy (etc)"  to "We start a new economy (etc)" in our front site ?

@play4ce: I like it at first but after sometime I feel like the logo is a bit convoluted. I like the style of Mastercoin, counterparty and nxt logos more. So we need to dig deeper here.

Honestly, i think NEM should be a variation of the NXT logo, but in silver to symbolize it's status. Much like Litecoin to BTC.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg3704749#msg3704749

Has there been earlier this "We are a movement."

That might has been edited recently. But then we are not competing in these kind of things/ titles. "No Envy".

Sorry for the delayed update of the stakeholder list due to that the blockchain.info is down and transaction hash cannot be checked. So the list is updated to page 80 at this point. I will continue working when the site is online again. Thanks for your patience.

Utopianfuture what are you still doing here now the IPO has ended? You got 100 BTC worth of funding you should at least try and make a run for it, not just sit here and develop stuff. This goes against all bitcointalk etiquette.

Has it not occured to you that people other than utopian will be working on the coin? Utopians job is to chitchat with us.

I've faith and patience we will eventually see an outcome. Time will tell and i'd be happy to help in any way I can.

I know this may have been asked before, but what i'd like to know is:

If/When this coin is released, how will the first investors know and how will they get their "funds?" I assume each individual will be contacted via PM on these forums, is that correct?

I jumped on board just shortly after the "Free" period. I've still got a "Y" condition on the list too. I just wanted to know what happens once the coin is released.

something simple is all the logo really needs... bitcoin's logo is not fancy it's just one letter. That's all this one needs to be. Plenty of coins with fancy logos that are languishing on the bottom of the market cap list. Name, word of mouth, community, and popularity are more important for acceptance in the market place... also simplicity and ease of use.

Personally with all the clones coming out I question the survivability of NEM and NXZ.. it's going to take a real catchy name or a very large community to make a coin popular now. Now we have this "Futurecoin" yet another NXT clone (which is probably going to fail before it even gets going with the OP managing to walk off with at least some BTC in the process) ... there are clones of all the major coin types now everywhere. I see the decline of the truly unpopular alt coins coming.. where they will basically end up being micro cap coins soon, with market caps under $200,000.

That's why my idea for BIT .. better internet transactions (or better international transactions)... it's one of the few names left that would instantly grab attention... although admittedly this name (NEM, New Economy Movement) is still fairly catchy compared to a lot of them.

Hopefully the group of investors we have is diverse and dedicated to the coin and not just dumping their stakes for the next one.... since we will have more smaller shareholders we hopefully will have a larger more dedicated community but we will also have more of a 'float' given that coins where you have a very few people holding lots of coins and they don't sell them, that helps keep the price up a bit by limiting the supply (float)

Alot of this makes sense to me. I Do not agree with the name change though but i perfectly understand your logic. For me, NEM reminds us that it's still tied to NXT in many respects. renaming it BIT might cause confusion.

Losses Cheesy

I had 2 accounts 50M,

Have stilll 1 account left with 50M and the other sold half way Cheesy

3 account was a little one 15M already sold out.

did all this without hurting or killing the coin, but seen the recent developments I can not garantee that for the future.

What is this? a threat?

Dump them already, you wouldn't be the first, i doubt the last, but you'll regret it. Your loss, and no skin off our nose. The community doesn't need someone with this mentality - to me, your attitude implies you have an agenda, of which is to directly cause harm to NXT, whether through exchange manipulation or through causing concern. The sooner you're gone, the better. Dump them.

Any UK Nxt holders? We need to position ourselves to get on Bittylicious to increase liquidity. The ability to purchase Nxt without Bitcoin is a big deal and one we should put some energy towards.

I was hoping somebody else would step up to the plate on this one, but since they haven't. here's my two cents, er, shillings worth.  I have a UK Barclays bank account I use to fund my online poker adventures.  It's a totally legal one in my own name, no funny business; I've filed the correct paperwork on it with the IRS and Department of the Treasury here in the US and even voluntarily gave up the number for it during my last security clearance interview.  I go thru a proxy and look like I'm in London since the online poker sites block me otherwise coming from an American IP address block.  All of these gyrations are due to the 2006 UIEGA anti-online-poker act that was passed here in America, land of the free; but I digress...

Bottom line, I've got the UK bank account but I have no desire to sell any of the NXT I've accumulated.  However, I understand the importance of getting NXT hooked up to Bittylicious so I'm willing to try and help.  If I've got enough public trust built up here, maybe people could dump NXT they wanted to sell into one of my toy NXT accounts, Bittilocious could take it out of that account to give to a buyer, send GBP to my Barclays account, and I could send that back to the original NXT holders via Moneybookers/Skrill (I've also got accounts there, too.)

This would require me to be a trusted middleman, which I'm OK with if you are.

If we really want to pursue this, let me know, I'll do my part to get NXT rolling in the UK.

Fantastic... way to step up!

1. It would be nice to get just a few more people willing to do the same as Ricky
2. Who could assist Ricky with the exchange?

I've went through this entire process with Peercoin. If we get our ducks in a row early, it'll be a much easier sell.

John
CoinTropolis

I've just read this, been away for a few hours Smiley
I'm a UK resident and happen to have a 'spare' UK account in my name with Cahoot, but again I don't want to sell the 100k or so NXT I've gained.
Don't know what is involved, if I can help I will but it can't be a 24x7 thing.
I'll go and look up bittylicious anyway and go register etc.
Ian

I'm also a UK citizen and I'd be happy to offer what little assistance i can. However, my stake is pretty low in comparison to most.

Time is ticking. Only nine hours left till pools at NXTpool.net are open.

Your rookie slot minimum contribution is far too high.

The vast majority of "rookies" won't have such a high stake in this coin - should be lowered to 1000.

Not only this, but i'd wager even if most rookies do have a 10k stake (646 USD), thats likely the majority of their coins of which i doubt very much they'd send to a pool that could possibly cut and run. Not worth the risk imo and it conveys the wrong message, especially as what you're essentially asking for is for them to send you their coins.

The majority of people are not going to send that sort of amount to a new pool - you need to establish trust first by having a low entry fee.

Also, think about calling it something other than Rookies; thats just patronizing. I'd simply just rename them different Tiers. Tier 1, 2, 3, etc.

For these reasons, i wouldn't dream of sending you a penny.

Personally i think NXT is a coin that can succeed, but i feel as though in order to do so any dependancy on BTC needs to be addressed.

Although i think direct trades on exchanges for BTC>NXT should continue, efforts should be made to allow people to use their native currencies to buy into NXT directly. I think this is one of the major steps needed to really make this coin a proper competitor - after all, it's what Bitcoin does.

Bitcoin is compared in value to FIAT.

NXT is compared largely to BTC, because thats often what it's traded with.

As long as this continues, i think NXT will find it harder to be pushed. So to speak.

If NXT managed to get FIAT trading, it would open up the market massively.
489  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 28, 2014, 11:00:48 AM
Just out of curiosity guys, but are there any plans to have exchanges trade FIAT directly for NXT?

This I feel is really necessary to get NXT to stand on it's own two feet and make the market more accessible to the average joe. A big part of me really feels that as long as this never happens, it's going to be much harder for NXT to provide any real competition to BTC and/or any other altcoin in existence right now. If NXT was one of the first to adopt this sort of thing, I think it would be potentially huge for this rising currency.

I'm not saying to get rid of any BTC>NXT transactions, just saying that as BTC is valued on FIAT, so should NXT should it wish to stand on it's own stage - instead of being valued directly towards BTC.

TLDR;

My view is, as long as coins are bought or traded with BTC, BTC will always be dominant. It just seems entirely counter-productive to the whole "Second gen" theme.
490  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NEM] NEM -New Economy Movement - No Envy Movement - Updates+Discussion thread on: January 27, 2014, 05:01:34 AM

Dude if all the accounts are owned by exactly one person per account or a few people opened multiple accounts it makes no difference to your one stake. You will get around 1m, whatever people do that's why its not worth envying others and just be grateful you have this opportunity.

You obviously didn't understand the criticism. If this coin is modeled on fairness how is it fair that some people can claim more stake than others?

It doesn't matter that the amount of stake doesn't change. The fact is if someone gets 20x stake, his value is 20x that of mine.
I get 1 million and some unethical person gets 20 million? it also devalues the value of everyones stake. If we have 3000 stakes but only 2000 users then we have lowered the value (inflated) our stake by 50%

Isn't that quite obvious?
Every single fake account devalues your stake. That is so painfully simple I can't explain it any more straightforward.

Also, someone who's likely going to go to such lengths will also be untrustworthy with their large stake. Likely selling out and ruining a market before it's even taken off.

I think at the very least, the creator should stop people from asking for a stake if they made their account AFTER the date of the thread.

I would love some type of NXT podcast   Grin

Get both male and female NXT podcasters along with maybe a live stream and chat feature Smiley

Who is NXT's most prominent female NXTer Huh

i hate to sound sexist but it would be difficult to find a female who was capable of sounding authoritative.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miriam_Defensor_Santiago

oh wow. she looks and sounds like hitler the way she points and moves her arms and body, and the way the tone of her voice rises and falls. scary

I don't think he means Authoritative; I think the words he's looking for is confident/assertive. But not to an extent thats rude or otherwise facist, lol.

I'm sorry to interrupt, but i'm curious to know how the stakeholders will be contacted as and when any situations change.

I assume you will inform us all via PM here on the forums?

I've already requested my stake with 80 NXT, back on page 53.

Started with my blog. Click at "NXT News" to take a glimpse.

I will add important news of the past to complete it.

http://ilgunf.wix.com/nxtmovement

When I post something new. I will tweet it at https://twitter.com/NXTmovement

You need to get rid of this advertising stuff. Domains are cheap nowadays.

Have a look at nxtion.com, nxtcrypto.org, mynxt.org, ...

there are still people that are not using adblock?
adblockplus.org

I get the feeling this is besides the point. Hardly encourages confidence in a rising currency when it's own sites rely on ad revenue.

Hi guys. Long time lurker, first time poster.

Your powers of Lurking are impressive indeed!

You're too kind Tongue

I figured it was about time I made a post, at the very least to express how impressed I am with NXT and the community; What Ricky did (And is continuing to do) handling EpicThomas in such a mature manner and everyone compensating the victims as best they could. With the communities efforts and dedication to implement new features and support eachother, how could I not post? Tongue

Spending time here always brings something new to take away and ponder over, and almost always makes me more excited for the future of this coin. I can only hope it continues.

497  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: January 22, 2014, 11:22:46 PM
Unthinkingly I lodged more btc to DGEX without reading up on their new fees. Feeling pretty stupid considering BTER has zero. I have vague memories of the ructions in the thread surrounding the fees which now seem justified. They are exorbitant-1.4% to withdraw btc! How does anyone continue to trade there?

For me it's more of a "The devil you know".

DGEX was the first site i bought nxt on - not too long ago. I stick with it because i've not had any problems other than fee's and perhaps long wait times for withdrawals or deposits.

And really, being the first ever exchange I just accept it; without it's efforts NXT wouldn't be where it is today. Nonetheless i think they seriously need to reconsider their stance here.

Exactly. This software will always been seen as shady if it remains closed source, as it should be if people are following even half intelligent due diligence. It is unacceptable considering what is at stake and no bounties should be given to the project. You could even be 100% honest, but there ends up being critical flaws in your software that expose users to risk/loss. Sorry marcus03. If you have spent any amount of time in the crypto community you should know better.

Totally agree with this. Marcus may have honest intentions, may not. Either way keeping it closed source is not really with the spirit of the community. What marcus has done looks absolutely awesome however.
