I'm glad in hindsight as I just found one on craigslist for 150.  Smiley

345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Relax] - A todo list of Cryptocurrencies on: August 30, 2011, 05:58:18 PM
PUNLcoin - all coins will be mined in exactly 13-years and transaction fees are based on the age of each node in the network.    Bootstrap to #mama-san before joining.
346  Economy / Marketplace / Re: MYBITCOIN: No access to username/password on: August 30, 2011, 05:46:16 PM
This happened to a friend of mine after the Mt. Gox hack.  He never had an account on Mt. Gox but he was frozen out of his MyBitcoin account after they went offline shortly after Mt. Gox.  He tried emailing many times, and never got a response.  He only had about 25BTC there but it's gone for good.

It's water under the bridge at this point.  MyBitcoin screwed a lot more people than most think.  The claim forms don't help anything if you were locked out of your account after the hack and any requests for help to access it again were ignored.  Supposedly that was done as a safety measure after the Mt. Gox hack, to protect users who had the same pw on MyBitcoin, but there is so much BS to sift through to try to get the real story that it's not worth the time.  Not for me anyway, I never had any BTC there.

Good luck, but don't get your hopes up.

Bump

This thread needs to be moved out of the Newbies section.

I've been running bitcoin-android on my Droid 3 for a few days and it works great!  Just playing with small amounts still, but IMHO this has huge potential for being a driving catalyst for greater adoption.

352  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTS: $100 Amazon gift card for 10 BTC on: August 18, 2011, 01:20:21 PM
Just to clarify for people living under a rock, there is a code on the back that I will send via email/PM once payment is received.

I know I'm new to the board and don't have a trade history.  If you are a well established trader with a good history, I'll consider sending the gift code first.
353  Economy / Currency exchange / [SOLD] WTS: $100 Amazon gift card for 8.5 BTC on: August 18, 2011, 03:48:32 AM
SOLD

I have two $100 Amazon gift cards I'd like to sell for 8.5 BTC each.  PM if interested.

354  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Introduce yourself :) on: August 17, 2011, 03:32:15 PM
Might as well introduce myself.  I've been lurking since April when I first got interested in BTC.  I'd been getting ready to upgrade my video card in my home PC and decided to go with an ATI card after reading about mining on the board.  Now I'm running dual 5850s overclocked 24/7.  I guess you could say I caught the bug!  There are lots of crazy things happening in the world right now and I feel like bitcoin is certainly a big part of it, so I'm glad to obsess about it with other geeks here.  Smiley

You may also want to consider selling some physical items for BTC.  There are a couple of classifieds and bidding sites.  Old computer equipment, etc.
356  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Book that EVERYONE is talking about..Is Satoshi Nakamoto behind this too? on: August 17, 2011, 02:40:51 PM
Thanks for the link, I'm going to read it.  I find it fascinating that the origins of bitcoin are shrouded in mystery.  Smiley
357  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Protecting my bitcoins.... on: August 16, 2011, 04:40:39 PM
I'd use a two-wallet approach: A spare change one and one whose .dat is on a USB drive somewhere.

I do this.  Just make sure your offline wallet is encrypted.
358  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoinexchange.cc scam? on: August 15, 2011, 04:51:13 PM
I know someone who bought gift cards from him in the past.  It took a few days but he came through.

There is a thread for his service.  It looks like some others have been having problems recently.

Good luck.
