Hello all,
I'm new to this and have started learning about the characteristics of bitcoin, how to mine it and the pros and cons of it. Although I have learnt the basics of mining, I personally don't plan on doing it as simply put I do not have the resources to do so. So rather than mining, I am looking into purchasing BTC through localbitcoins then transferring it to my Electrum wallet.
My questions are: (some of these have been answered in older threads but I just want to be reassured please)
- Would you advise on purchasing BTC now before August 1st?
- Is it advisable to use Electrum to store the coins? I have encrypted it and written my seed on paper.
- Would you say, in your opinion, ETH would be a good investment?
I only plan on purchasing a small amount of BTC (3-4) to start with.
If you have any books (or articles) you'd like to share that'd be a good read, please do share!

Personally, I am monitoring the market and I will buy BTC when it hit $1800 to $1900 before 1st of August. - Is it advisable to use Electrum to store the coins? I have encrypted it and written my seed on paper. It is better to store your BTC in paper wallet. - Would you say, in your opinion, ETH would be a good investment? If it is for the long term, I will say yes. But maybe you would like to consider Antshares. Just 5 days is there, and the price is now $2700. In just 5 days the price will drop $1000 is it possible and is there any reason to fall price suddenly. I don't think again the price will go under $2000. So you already missed the right chance to buy bitcoins. You want to wait then wait only 5 days left. Will this happen how BTC will go down very deeply. Hardfork seems to be just an issue, and it freaks everyone out. They managed to make a mess. Politics is always not good. |

Now is not the time to buy BTC, but for ETH i guess. Prices of both coins might drop in couple of days or week, and after August 1st that's the only time we can surely predict what will happen.
BTC will come down shortly, more safely buy BTC. I am worried about ETH, lately there is a lot of fishing they have lost this Coin. This affects the ETH price. That's just my prediction. I don't think anyone can tell what will happen after 1st of August. If decided to invest money in the crypto market then I suggest don't wait but start buying in small quantity in regular intervals so that you will get a best average price. Because after 1st August if prices suddenly go up then you may not be buying it so buy some now and later some more. My strategy for the situation in present is split my funds to 3-5 parts, use 30% for buying at now, 30% depend after August 1st and 40% keep safe money by withdraw to FIAT or holding Bitcoin in cold wallet. Because from August 1st maybe have HardFork Bitcoin and very risk if still holding Bitcoin on exchange Good move, this strategy is worth imitating. All exchangers have warned "do not transact Bitcoin". Very risky. Hope this is solved with soft fork. So everyone will enjoy bitcoin. |

Buy now if I were you. But not all in. Try to buy slowly and accumulate. Because the market now is still unpredictable. We may go straight $3000 before August or we have another correction. What is important is Segwit2x already locked in.

Every shit coin is getting pumped one day or another if you hold long.
Yes, Holding or Hodling is the best way to go if you don't have much time to spend in trading or flipping coins on a daily basis. Sometimes its best to NOT to do anything but to wait patiently. Choose to work on other activities. So that we do not feel dizzy and stressed. Health is very important and expensive. Immediately sleep and enjoy the day with a shave. |

Yes many speculation on the bitcoin price though experience of downtrend and now currently recovering. So, I think it will increase this year. Thats what I think though. Hard forks do not happen, negative issues just make the situation not conducive. I feel the loss has taken this issue. Should be more relaxed to respond to issues. Valuable experience so as not to panic. |

Lol. You will be more stressed if you go to Ethereum. Just forget all the technicalities and let your money multiple in bitcoins. Chances are with Ethereum, your money will be lost in a blink of an eye. While in bitcoin you can still react whether to hold or sell. For me, it is more enjoyable to eaen some altcoin through articipating on different bounty campaign rather than bitcoin because of too many drama happening. The price is very volatile and there is a risk of split. I agree with OP that btc is so bored right now.
Bored? I don't understand why are getting bored with bitcoin. The price fluctuations make bitcoin trading profitable for most of us. Drama will not last and after that, a happy ending.  . Just like any soap opera. Thats right joshy, as the issues is cleared bitcoin will shoot up again, look at now it fully recovered already. This drama got me disappointed also at some point but this cycle or fluctuation is normal. i am waiting bitcoin for increase more than $3xxx and maybe i will decide to sell some of my bitcoin to fiat. its not good if we become stress for waiting bitcoin increase because if we do another work, then our focus is not just for waiting the price but also we can finish the other jobs. If you want the truth here it's coming. We observed a great pump times and this happened for almost last 2 months. But it ended for a while. There must a serious correction and it came up now. Moreover, bitcoin fork rumors made the things even worse.
The market will take a rest. If you're a long term investor, I think there is nothing to fear. It should be allright again. If not in 2017, it will be okay in 2018. But it will, for sure.
Agreed, you are correct. If each bitcoin believers have a strong belief in bitcoin no matter how the price value drop, we the holders of bitcoin we shouldn't panic instead we must be at ease most of the time because it will come or return the original or more for sure after a couple of days or weeks for sure. Just be patience and control your emotion as well. Panic is the main enemy of the crypto currency. If each of us starts to panic, then we will get a very difficult situation in the market and a big price drop. Therefore, you just need to wait and believe that the situation with bitcoin will be solved in the most pleasant way Well looking at how btc is faring right now, i'd say panicking a week ago would've been a big miatake that amyone can make in crypto. As we can see, btc has recovered pretty well and pretty fast. The setback for a few daysnonly served as traders' opportunity to earn more.by buying at a way lower price. This has happened before so for those new to btc, this should serve as a good lesson for the future Correct, the price is pretty stable for the past few days. I did panic sell the previous week, selling some mBTC, when the BTC price was at $2400, it raised to $2800 in 2-3 days after that. Fortunately, I only exchanged a very small amount, so it was minimal losses. I recommend the year 2017 for a vacation, and stop sitting at the computer, waiting for BTC to go up. 2 weeks is too short to resolve everything back to normal. Relax and enjoy the coffee. !! It would likely be also be related to beta testings. And its gonna take months to fix any errors and bugs if there are any and maybe it could take long time to synchronize blocks again if we need to.This might not be a new issue but it is a new evolution of bitcoin. Many speculations on hard fork has been done and i gotta say there is yet no perfect demonstration on its effect. So take the advice and at least find something to be busy on and be ready for the august 1 update. Enjoy free time before in August, we will not have more time to saying as now. In that time, the market and Bitcoin system will have big change and maybe, the result after this happens can decisive the life of cryptocurrency, not only Bitcoin! I don't think so. There probably won't be any major changes tbat will happen during that time. I even think we're well past the critical stage now and i don't expect any sudden drastic drop in btc prices anymore. Keep calm and steady and we'll all be good beyond aug 1st. Its even possible for the price to sboot up again after that so im not concerned. Hard fork will not happen, and that's a fact. I am not that expert in trading but i would like to suggest for you, better start with an amount you can afford to lose, just like gambling while you are practicing you can start by trial and error, because mostly you wont learn unless you try it for yourself, so better try for smaller amount because when you failed then its not that hard for you to start again.
