I made it that it ends after 1 week of inactivity..
So, it's 1 month or 1 week of inactivity?
1 week of inactivity..unless that's bad. I'm open to ideas

How do you prevent multiple requests by one person?

It is quite difficult task. If you cannot do this most probably your service will go bankrupt after few days.
I spent about a month to write a heuristic statistical analyzer that detects fraudulent behavior and it already rejected thousands suspicious requests on my site, but even so it doesn't give 100% probability. Checking e-mail and IP is not enough definitely.

Technical savvy user can easily cheat you by registering many emails and requesting ticket via proxy or TOR node, diluting winning chance of legitimate users.
I don't think people will make up a fake email just to have a chance at winning..
783  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Local News Wants to Interview Me About Bitcoins on: August 01, 2011, 09:01:56 PM
A reporter for my local paper interviewed me a few weeks ago and the story finally ran today (not online yet I guess). Now I just got a call from the local news wanting to interview me. I told them I would call them back in a couple hours but I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it.

What exchange is even good to use nowadays? (don't say mtgox)

One thing that the guy said was "talking about the risks" of using bitcoin or some such thing, so I feel like they will frame Bitcoin in a bad way. The reporter for the paper was pretty fair but had to mention that a local prostitute was accepting bitcoin.

Should I give the local news a soundbite?
They might edit what you say. I just saw a video litarlly 2 seconds ago and someone got shot and they asked this kid "are you going to stay away from guns when you get older?" And the kid said "No, I am going to have me a gun" that's all they showed but he really said he wants a gun because he's going to be a cop..

For me to put in up to 10BTC, the game would have to last about a month or longer.
With daily sub-jackpots or something.
Umm daily jackpots would be hard to do but i will do a month

I lowered the minimum to 0.05 BTC!! Let the jackpot race begin! I am only taking 0.02 BTC from entries lower than .25 for the jackpot. I make no money off .25 or lower!!

Great idea. How much do you win? Is it based on how much advertising revenue you make, or is it a fixed value?
Revenue, I take 5% rest goes to the pot

This could either do really well or flop.

Is there any insurance in case fewer than two people participate?
ummm ok, if only 2 people join I will refund them (unless the first guy already got paid) then I can refund the second person whatever is left.
Excellent! I just threw in 5.1337 BTC. Let's see how this goes! Cheesy
You just made 2 btc in less than 15 minutes, congrats lol

Doesn't expire until next year..

Unless you have more details (and I don't know why the host would have given out that kind of customer information), you're referring to the domain and not to the hosting.

The hosting can expire while the domain is still active.
my mistake

In Manchester we have over 50 different words for rain.
We need rain power! Sun is for southerners. We laugh at you and your southern pansy sunshine.

you could use a piezoelectric material to produce electricity from the force of the rain hitting it, although the forces would be pretty tiny and I wouldn't think anything would be efficient enough to get much if anything worthwhile.

Actually is mainly drizzle in Manchester - it wets you with no force at all.
What's the "Smiths?"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Smiths

'The Smiths were an English alternative rock band, formed in Manchester in 1982. Based on the song writing partnership of Morrissey (vocals) and Johnny Marr (guitar), the band also included Andy Rourke (bass) and Mike Joyce (drums). Critics have called them the most important alternative rock band to emerge from the British independent music scene of the 1980s.' Wikipedia

(that's right, some random person on Wikipedia called them the most important group from the 80's and even took the time to back it up with real links to real sources)
lol gotcha

Hence why the server was disconnected.
