1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gmail unusual activity on: June 20, 2011, 12:44:01 AM
I can't log back into my account after changing my password.  Undecided  Thanks for Google recognizing that my account may be breached (I'm pretty sure it is, I'm having trouble logging into Facebook). Sent a "stolen account" inquiry, hopefully I'll get my account back. Oddly enough, due to cookies I can still sign into YouTube.  Grin

EDIT: And after all this time I work out that the password leaked is the one that I made using KeePass, not my "ehh put in a password" password. Yay! I think.

Only have one offer on the site. Bit disappointing, and I don't want to sign up for that one.  Sad

no takers

Hey, name's Dropbear. Was going to see how long it took for me to mine enough BTC for a t-shirt on a 10mh/s computer, but now it's gone into the "Will do by 2013" category. XD

Also, Australia has horrible banking options for BitCoin. Tongue
6  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Current BTC rate? on: June 13, 2011, 08:43:21 AM
There is no "one" rate for Bitcoins, however the most accepted is Mt Gox's. The current BUY/SELL price is 22.4 USD per BTC. This changes rapidly though, yesterday it was bottoming out at 11 USD per BTC.
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Curious about 1:1 paypal/gox trades...(avoiding scams) can someone enlighten me? on: June 13, 2011, 08:22:23 AM
Unfortunately, people have been abusing PayPal by getting the bitcoins and then saying that they didn't receive them to PayPal, who reverses the transaction.

This now means that PayPal is not accepted anywhere, however you could buy Lindan Dollars with PayPal and then buy Bitcoins with the Lindan dollars. I don't know how that works though, you'd have to ask an expert.

The first company to allow people to buy bitcoins using Visa or MasterCard will be very, very popular.
8  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Experiment: Is it possible to buy a shirt using only mining and free coins? on: June 13, 2011, 08:11:55 AM
I'm using the guiminer now, still getting only around 4.2. It's on my current laptop, using a GeForce GT 320M. Adding on the CPU gives me around 10mh/s. So pretty bad. Also the pool I joined is down again.  Roll Eyes

I get 25mh/s on my 330m

Hmm, really? That is one "version" up, but I don't know why it's so bad in the first place. Bah.

EDIT: On the wiki, it says:
GT 320M (MacBook Air)    6.12
320M (Mac mini 2010)    7.0

I'm using an acer laptop, so I expect it to be slightly lower than that.

Shipping to Australia is as much as the shirt. XD So I'd have to get around 0.06 odd... if bitcoins went up to 500USD = 1BTC, which will only happen if I'm very lucky.  Grin

And thanks for the Bitcoin Bonus link. I'll join that and see if I get anywhere. Hmm, might have to sell TF2 hats or something, maybe? What odd jobs is there to do?

M or K?

Mega. I am guessing that the RPC miner is not good for CPU mining or something. :T
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How many newbies are mining? on: June 12, 2011, 06:59:12 AM

CPU miner (i5 core 2.26GHz) is doing 1800khash/s, not experiencing any slowdown like the CUDA one did. I'm just thinking that laptops arn't as powerful.  Sad

see my post earlier in this thread.  I have the ufasoft miner running on a i5-750 @2.66 Ghz  and I'm getting about 9.5MH/sec

OK, this is weird. I'm apparently getting 5.8mh/s on CPU, only 4.1mh/s on the NVIDIA, for a total of 10mh/s. I'll play around with it. Also no lag! o-o
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How many newbies are mining? on: June 12, 2011, 06:35:49 AM
Unfortunately I'm only mining at around 4mhash/s. Kind of useless, so I guess I'll stop when I hit 0.001 BTC. Yay, a tenth of a cent!

I'm assuming you are using only CPU mining.  you might try the ufasoft miner.
easiest way to use it is to download the latest guiminer,  https://github.com/downloads/Kiv/poclbm/guiminer-20110609.exe
just ignore the errors about no openCL drives found, you dont need it for CPU mining.

No, I'm apparently using my NVIDIA GT 320M with RPCminer CUDA. Not very good speeds were posted on the wiki, so I'm assuming it's going at the max speed. Kind of funny how bad a 6 month laptop is.

A laptop will never be a good miner, you know how laptops are generally shitty for playing games, it's the same limitation, you got a crappy video card compared to what you could get on a desktop computer

Also, do rpcminer-cpu as well, compare speeds, it's possible that it might be a little faster, on my Mac Mini it was... well, compared to 4way, not really sure what 4way is though...

So yeah, sleeping with your four computers in your room is BAD.
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Experiment: Is it possible to buy a shirt using only mining and free coins? on: June 12, 2011, 05:40:59 AM
According to the site I have 0.00023484 BTC in rewards for around 4-5 hours of mucking around. I do realise that this is not a smart idea in terms of electricity, and I'm using a NVIDIA card (which is only 6 months old) to mine which is apparently the worst thing to mine with. In estimation, I could get around 0.03 a month. So useless.

Is there any other ways of mining?

@1.21gigawatts, that's another idea, although I'm trying to think of a service that I can offer in the first place. Selling TF2 hats, anyone?

Hey, my name is CorruptDropbear (you can call me Drop if you want). I live in Australia, I like pineapples and gaming, and currently studying Computing and Digital Media at Uni. You can follow me on twitter with @corruptdropbear

So I've been looking at bitcoins for a while now because of their no-location policy (being able to purchase stuff without having the Australian tax). Right now I've had another idea that I'm going to do just for fun, seeing if it's possible to actually make "something out of nothing", and see how long it will take for me to buy a shirt using only bitcoins that I'm pool mined or I won for free. I've got my laptop running at 4100khash/s (not very good, think I'm going to get 0.001BTC a day.), and I'm looking around for other ways to get bitcoins. There's also the problem of the exchange rate which will be either help or hinder me.

So, does anyone think what I'm doing is possible? I know that in the past bitcoins were easy to get, but now it'll be an interesting challenge.
