Windows Installer 0.7.2 Test release:

This version will Uninstall previous versions of my installer, check for Java and install it, and now it checks the SHA256 of the downloaded nxt-client-0.7.2.zip against the checksum given by the developers. If it doesn't match, setup will exit. The client zip can still be left behind after the install for manual verification that I'm not doing anything funny. This also is the first release of the Nxt Installer that uses the database backend. So far I haven't had any issues from that. The database download is about 36MB compressed, so not a whole lot bigger than Blocks.nxt and Transactions.nxt.

If the directory c:\nxt exists before the installer is run, it will be renamed to nxt.bak.

Download is here:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/u5q3ia3zjigcmoq/Nxt_0.7.2_Web_Setup.exe

SHA256: 4B5FBCB506EB611C24A57AD18CD9E20613889FB4C026DEE2B9350F4263564B9F

This became a lot more complicated than I would've liked, so please test and let me know if you encounter any issues.

Tested so far on Win7 x64 and Win8 x64.

Does my installer count after I took myself out of the running for the client bounty?

All I know is that the government can not stop crypto-currencies, aside from maybe shutting down the internet indefinitely, which isn't going to happen. And historically, anything the government bans, tends to drive UP the price. Fact: Something like 25% of the world's economy is black market. Crypto-currencies were MADE for the black market.

This always seemed weird to me.  I mean, the ledger of transactions is public after all.  To me it seems foolish to use a public ledger when funding illegal activities.  But perhaps I just haven't thought it through since I don't care about drugs.

People also use their phones to text drug deals... The government doesn't REALLY want people to stop illegal activities.  WAY too much money involved.

This is why I recommend to use a pigeon carrier for illicit activities.

Just kidding NSA, I don't even have a pigeon

if you dont think the nsa intercepts pigeons than your fooling yourself. go back to sleep sheep.

Not if it's a stealth pigeon. With lasers.

I thought stealth pigeon technology wouldn't be out for another couple of years...

NSA already has it..........they developed it.

Question:

Is it better to give 5, 10 or 20 Nxt to little good things you see regularly (expecting everyone else to do the same),

or;

Will people think that is insulting for their effort (maybe get pee'd off and stop helping?) so I should save up my Nxt till I see something "WOW!" and give a few hundred?

Opinions?

N.B.
I bought all my Nxt after the 28th Dec, first purchase was 0.00009. Bought more since so I am looking at just about break-even so far. Never sold a Nxt so far though and I can feel another purchase coming on! Tho probably on Dgex, grrr... thanks Graviton but you have already had your tips out of me!

I've gotten some small donations and one large one. I appreciate them all the same.

Release 0.7.0e - experimental

http://download.nxtcrypto.org/nxt-client-0.7.0e.zip

sha256: aa778bade323d2b3f4cf13c925aa7b541d57f0853a5828385b72254ac92010bc

Change log:

This is the first release using an embedded java database (H2) to store
the blockchain, instead of serialized java object files. Because this is
a major change, this version is to be considered experimental.

The blocks.nxt and transactions.nxt and .bak files are no longer used.
Furthermore, they will not be loaded at startup, when you start with
empty database the very first time it will need to download the full
blockchain from the network.

The database is stored under the nxt_db directory, as of now it will
take around 100 MB when downloaded. If anything goes wrong and you need
to start fresh, it is safe to delete that nxt_db directory, it will be
recreated.

There are no changes in the web.xml file compared to 0.6.1. I will add
parameters to tweak database settings later, if needed.

The database will use 50% of the memory available to java for its cache.
The actual value is printed out at startup.

Currently only blocks and transactions are stored in database tables,
everything else such as accounts, aliases, assets, orders, messages,
is loaded at startup and then kept in memory. The amount of memory
those take is still small, relative to what was needed for all blocks
and transactions.

At startup, the blockchain scan takes a bit longer, this is normal.
If anything else is unusually slow, I will look into profiling and
optimizing it.

There are no new user-visible features compared to 0.6.1, the code is
kept in sync now (including the critical bugfixes). Having both 0.6.1
and 0.7.0e nodes on the network should not result in forks. I will
maintain both the 0.6.x and 0.7.x branches for some time, until all
major database related issues are discovered and fixed. Please report
bugs, including the stack traces.

So when I do my installer for 0.7, is it going to cause any issues if I include the nxt_db folder as I include blocks.nxt and transactions.nxt now?
709  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 06, 2014, 05:39:20 PM

No wallets are coming out. We at nxt only uses passwords/passphrase/brainwallet
Type in anything in the nxt client after pressing the unlock button and it will be your account, remember to use a really long (30characters/symbols+) jiberish password that makes no sense and write it down somewhere. I printed mine out. If your password is hellothisismypassworditisreallylong then your nxt will be stolen in less than a minute after depositing. Make your password something like helLo101this*(*ismy*(&$^&pass<><.,;'{word31it(*&isHJHreally+_+{LonG&**

so which client is it then? i had about 5 clients thrown at me and none of them work/are useless

If you're on Windows, the link in my signature is to my Windows Installer for NRS.

doesnt work either..

Do you use apple computers?

no windows
Did you try the link i post before which is this one.. http://www.mediafire.com/download/51ipys4v4rblbvd/Nxt_0.6.1_Web_Setup.exe

yea, that was the one i just tried

What didn't work? It's been downloaded and installed over 3,000 times without much of an issue.

when i launch it, it just comes up a black screen which closes after

Uninstall Java and run my installer again. Java is most likely messed up.

More fun updates on my installer...a picture say it all:

It now checks the SHA-256 of the Nxt-Client-0-x-x.zip file BEFORE it is extracted and installed. If it fails, setup is forced to exit.

Still have some work to do, but the proof of concept is there and working.

 Cheesy

awesome, is it ready link?

Nope, not yet. I was hoping to have it tested enough to use for 0.6.0, but that didn't happen. Soon.

Just hit 10 confirmations...my vote should be live.....aaannnnnddddd...<looks at Nxtvote>....it's not. Bugger

I will look into that issue after the next block. Smiley

Edit: http://nxtra.org:7874/nxt?requestType=getBalance&account=10667094504543355029

You didn't send any..

EDIT: er, yep, I did....10 NXT from my sig line account to 10667094504543355029, tx id is 15457216241628422147

How long before a vote goes live?

I believe I have created the most relevant question.

After 10 NXT got transfered about 1 minute for the cronjob. I'm testing the payment system right now. After I confirm it's working I will change it to 0 NXT for testing purposes.

Edit: 13minutes since the last block.. sigh!

Will you make a poll option who take into account the voter's address balance?
(exchange's account shouldn't count)

I don't think so. If it's wanted maybe. Smiley

Strange. Maybe my server and nxtras server is on a fork?

There is no new block coming since 30 minutes..

http://www.mynxt.info/blockexplorer/details.php?action=tx&tx=5501128539932214007

I have 19 confirms on the 10 I sent
