261  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: PHP & BAMT on: October 17, 2012, 08:08:31 PM
If you need to reboot it every six hours, something is wrong. I had BAMT running for weaks without an issue. It crashed only when I overclocked the cores too much. Even then BAMT automagicaly rebooted the machine, so the downtime was minimal.
262  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Thrive Movement's response on Bitcoin on: October 17, 2012, 03:21:51 AM
"Hi, I am Herp Derpinton, and I have discovered an answer to life, universe and everything. Let me introduce my free energy machine from aliens. I could have just build it and sold it to millions, end the starvation, wars and poverty while making money myself, but hey! Why not just make a stupid movie and ask for donations?"

And now my question to osmosis: Why did you contacted those people? How can they help Bitcoin economy?

The anti-bitcoin arguments, however stupit they may seems to be, were reasonable and expected from non-technical person.
I just think we have to forget about real advantages of bitcoin while presenting it to public and make a good marketing strategy based on regular bullshit that people want to hear instead.
263  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What was mybitcoin.com? on: October 14, 2012, 08:30:06 PM
MyBitcoin was also providing a shopping cart API for e-shops. Was it the first provider of this kind of service?
As far as I remember, Tom Williams said that site was hacked through the hole in shopping cart API.

To attack this way you would need to have wire level snooping between the POS terminal and the merchant gateway
I read somewhere about merchant gateway machine infected by virus infected by virus.
Yes. Some simple trojan was infected by some custom build sophisticated code to sniff transactions Smiley

Isis, I love to read your posts about OpenPay. I hope to see it in the wild soon.
Btw. good luck in you new job.
265  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: should we make a bitcointalk TOR hidden service? on: October 07, 2012, 04:54:41 PM
Tor hidden service would be great, but don't forget that central server is still an issue.
I mentioned this before in other thread - Look at Osiris serverless portal. Decentralized P2P solution.
266  Other / Off-topic / Re: Akinator doesn't know Satoshi Nakamoto on: October 07, 2012, 12:59:58 PM
After few rounds he will ask you about name and short description of a person. If enough people Answer his questions and write Satoshis name in the end, he will remember him.
267  Other / Off-topic / Akinator doesn't know Satoshi Nakamoto on: October 07, 2012, 07:57:39 AM
I have discovered today, that Akinator from akinator.com doesn't know Satoshi Nakamoto.
Akinator is character from online game, who is guessing the person you are thinking of.
Go and teach him who is Satoshi!
268  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The future of Bitcoin is illegal on: October 07, 2012, 06:14:59 AM
I'd rather spend my bitcoins than change it to EUR. I only buy EUR and USD so I can get more bitcoins when the price fluctuate.

losing Bitcointalk would be a calamity.
My advise is to setup Osiris serverless portal and figure out how to replicate content of the forum there. If something bad happen, we can continue there.

I am happy to pay my taxes
I would be happy to pay taxes... voluntarily. Otherwise it's a robbery.

taxes are actually a great thing but only if everyone pays them and if they are spend on useful things only.
...if they are spend on useful things only...

Robbery - the crime of taking or attempting to take something of value by force or threat of force Wink
271  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Asic in europe??? on: October 06, 2012, 02:48:56 PM
My plan is to declare the value of goods in bitcoins and let the customs officer get confused and angry as a revenge for import tax Cheesy
Hell, I hate those people. They just sitting there, collecting money, and get salary from my income taxes every month...
272  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Nefario GLBSE on: October 06, 2012, 09:55:44 AM
Its ironic that Nefario would be labeled a scammer here for most likely obliging to the law and while presumably not stealing anything from anyone.
An "incompetent" label might be warranted, but I see no evidence of scamming.
That's the paradox here. He practically screwed lot of people by obeying the law Cheesy
273  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: With GLBSE gone, can somebody PLEASE write something like this or better? on: October 06, 2012, 07:42:50 AM

There is nothing in place prior to this in case nefario was lent on by the government
He specifically said he will move GLBSE to another country in case of regulation issues.

But another idea came through my mind. What if he's trying to build legitimate stock exchange following all the laws and regulations from scratch? I mean... Even if he started to following the laws suddenly, the GLBSE operation was still probably illegal in the past. If he start another company with possibility to for share issuers to move the stocks there, everything would be clean, and authorities could not complain about the past. However he completely destroyed his confidence here, so there is no point to do that anyway. Maybe his target customers are outside of this community...
274  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: With GLBSE gone, can somebody PLEASE write something like this or better? on: October 06, 2012, 07:16:44 AM
He lied.
I don't think so. He had clear vision about the future of GLBSE. Problems must came after the conference.
275  Other / Off-topic / Re: What does GLBSE stand for to you? on: October 06, 2012, 06:35:32 AM
Trying to legitimize the GLBSE was mistake. I don't know if I became a conspiracy theorist thanks to this forum, but there is something in the background we cannot see. Something that happened last month and forced Nefario to panic and screw everything...
276  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: With GLBSE gone, can somebody PLEASE write something like this or better? on: October 06, 2012, 06:20:49 AM
I don't understand. Is Nefario behind GLBSE the same Nefario who was speaking at the conference? The same smart and confident guy who said if there are any legal issues, he will simply move to another country? Theymos, can you please continue to operate GLBSE until P2P solution is available? If not, are you able to lower the price of the shares you are selling? Or at least open the source code?

Awesome speech.
278  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What would you do with a million dollars worth of customer data? on: October 04, 2012, 08:49:47 PM
It's immoral and illegal.
But... people giving out personal information to strangers on the internet who doesn't really need them for their business... They kind of deserve it.
279  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Potential obstacles for mass adoption of BTC on: October 04, 2012, 03:14:17 PM
You can always sell them as soon as you get them and record the value in your national currency. I see no big problem here. If there is enough volume in future, the laws and regulations will be created to make bitcoin accounting possible.
280  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Moving bitcoin.org to a hardened server? on: October 04, 2012, 02:50:15 PM
You mean... people can lose money because of hosting provider? Ridiculous...
/sarcasm Smiley
