281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage - Working Beta - Currency has been released on: September 17, 2015, 12:40:27 PM
The coins are lost after switching off the wallet! Usually the latter dug block, regardless of when it was excavated !!!

1. Wallet except as close to "x" graphic-interface, then close "siad.exe" from Task manager!
2. After starting the GUI wallet my balance is zero, walleto shows "siad exited with code:0". Obviously the database is damaged.
3. Because the database is damaged delete set.db located in the folder "consensus".
4. Restart wallet and he began again to synchronize data. Do not unlock the wallet until fully synchronized.
5. After aligning unlock wallet and see value in the portfolio that is decreased by value and one block !!!
6 ...... This is repeated many times, and after each synchronization and start to lose money from the wallet!

....?!? !! Obviously the loss of data from the database are lost and coins !!!!!
If you start with a wallet from 3.3.3 client, you may try to launch 3.3.3 with the old wallet and observe the balance after sync.

On the other hand, are the lost coins recently mined ones ?

There is no good exchange but the problem with Polinex which is really making the market is they almost actively dismiss any long term great projects for easy hypeable coins with no real long term future. Plus it's easy to FUD SC, someone says there are too many coins and the price tumbles.
The amount of coins shouldnt make any difference since even bitcoins are divisible up to a 100 000 000 times. We could just as well argue that there are too many bitcoins. 0.00000001btc is still bitcoin.
Amirite? I've thought about this before, and it always annoys me to see new coins with small supply. Personally I'd much rather buy 100btc for $100 than 0.3 or whatever, because its more convenient.

There is a psycological effect and a trading effect with a small unit of account.
The latter come from the bid/ask spread : while sia is trading in the 10-20 satoshi range, the bid/ask spread is at least  between 5% and 10% since trading in most places doesn't use decimals beyond satoshi. On the other hand, trading in kilo-sia would lead to a range which could be as low as 0.005%-0.01%.
Suppose you bought sia, then latter you want to sell : with stable price, you will loose 5-10% of value.

Now imagine some dips in the 5 satoshis (it has happened to mintcoin) : 20% spread...

So for those of us who killed siad using task manager, does this mean we have also lost our coins and any uploads stored in new wallet? Hard to imagine that.
No you still have your coins : try deleting resources\app\Sia\consensus\*
or
- copy your resources\app\Sia\wallet\*
- start with a fresh install, but copy & paste the wallet directory and start the client.

Hello,
I am mining on windows. The new wallet has a strange behaviour :
- correct amount on "overview" (without the new block mined which is normal I presume)
- On the wallet tab (the wallet is unlocked)  : "Balance: Locked       Pending: Locked     Unlock"
Is this normal?

Hey, yes I am seeing that as well in the wallet page. Not real sure why it looks like that. I think everyone most likely sees that as well right now.

Mined blocks wont post until 144 blocks if I am thinking right lol still drinking my morning coffee  Grin
Thanks

Why is the price being hit so hard  Huh

People are running away from Sia like it's a toxic investment, I just don't get it.

Because Siacoins are not an investment. To me the supply model doesn't make any sense if you are concerned about the price per Siacoin.  If hosts set the price of storage, and Sia is divisible, why design a coin that increases so exponentially?  You could have 21 Mil Siacoins and storage would cost just fractions of a Siacoin.  People have no incentive to hold Siacoins right now.  Why would I pay for Siacoins right now when the supply will increase 4x in the next year.  If anything, people are overpaying for Siacoins right now.  Siafunds are the investment, because you are collecting Siacoins by doing nothing.  Or am I wrong here?

An increase of 4X for a pow coin for one year less than one month after the launch seems pretty reasonable for me.
Most of pow coins had such an increase in their beginning.

On the other side, I repeat what I have said : kilo sia would be a better unit of account on exchange both for psychological reason (people prefers high price to give a feeling of value) and for the bid/ask  relative spread (minimum 10% for a price of 10 sat).

On the one hand, even good coins have highs and lows, pump and dump periods.

On the other hand, the unit of acount is on the low side (like coins such as mintcoin for instance : when you have total number of coins in few years more than the 10 billion range) : when the price is low it can go down to the 10 sat range. In this situation you have 10% difference at least between bid and ask for most exchage where the smallest unit of price is a satoshi, which is not healthy (for mintcoin there was some days when price was 1 satoshi : traders can manipulate the price and have huge profits : 100% difference between bid and ask!).

To my opinion, before sia became highly used and popular (therefore with a high price), it would be better to have exchange price in kilo sia instead of sia : with current price it would be around 10000 sat for a ksia : you will have a minimum difference of 1/10000 between bid and ask instead of 1/10!

Wallet version 0.3.3 BETA released: https://talk.vanillacoin.net/topic/204/version-0-3-3-beta-release/1

Changes:

Reduced outbound TCP bandwidth significantly
User configurable options are now available on Mac OS X and Windows
ZeroTime is enabled by default on Android and iOS
ZeroTime can be enabled by default on Mac OS X and Windows
General Bug Fixes

http://vanillacoin.net/wallets.php

Buying time bitches...

Maybe it's just common manipulation but there is some serious trading opposition to VNL on Polinex. Within a minute or two of any rise someone dumps prematurely. This isn't just taking profits or bag holders this is a serious effort to keep the rice down. Why? Maybe just to accumulate more but it could be more sinister, even interests like ETH wanting to kill competition?

All I know is it's definitely there and people should take advantage of it and buy the crap out of the dumps. we need to get on another exchange with decent vol.
The people selling had to buy before. I believe this is somewhat day-trading.
This is good for the coins since it provide liquidity. VNL has rather good liquidity for a while, which is good for the coin (18th in trading volume in coinmarketcap for today, and it has done far better at times).
290  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Did Siacoin really beat Storj to market with decentralized storage? on: August 30, 2015, 06:45:07 PM
not really. SIA has around 100 GB volume, Storj already reached 500 last time I checked...
sia is an open beta, storj a closed one.
Up to now, none of them is in fully operational stage : the winner of the coin storage contest is not yet determined.
291  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage - Working Beta - Currency has been released on: August 30, 2015, 06:18:38 PM
people seem very evasive about the number of coins that will be minted?

You are funny. All your questions are for to calculate market cap and make some short term trade on a coin you know nothing or care about.
You don't care enough to read the whitepaper. You don't skim through the thread. You are not trying to understand that this is not an altcoin
trading game coin. But to answer your ?.

Siacoins that will be mined goes down by one every block until it reaches 30k per block. After that it will always mine 30k I guess forever.
That is because Siacoin is for renting storage and for mostly businesses to store all their cloud data cheaper and more reliable than centralized services.
Siacoin is a currency for storage usage so the ultimate value and price will be decided by the demand for its storage.

Siacoin allows a little boy in Alaska to use his 4TB hdd he got for Christmas to sell his space to Netflix who will use all of Sia's thousands of storage providers to store their content cheaper than Amazon. And for Mr. Smith who used to put his videos of himself naked making muscle poses on google drive until he got paranoid that it takes only one google employee to allow a hacker to gain access to his account and upload his video where if you put it in Sia, even the hosters don't know what they are storing so you only trust Sia the protocol which is open source.

Why have torrents anymore when there is Sia. Why should those guys who upload movies for free use file hosting sites when he can now use Sia?
Siacoin will be improved and tested like Bitcoin. If you trust your money to Bitcoin you will trust Sia for your data.

If your community didn't care about trading the coin then maybe it shouldn't move to get on the biggest trading sites in altcoins....

It is a red flag there is no block explorer or total amount of supply(CMKC shows 4,627,691,000 SC?)...thats normally a sign of a premine, unless I'm missed the link to the block explorer?

They found an elegant way to avoid premine & ICO : this is a two coin mecanism : siacoin and siafunds.
The siafunds has been sold to initial investors : they give right to have a percentage of the payment in siacoin of the storage contracts.
The siacoin are being produced by POW and are the money for the storage renting mecanism.

The one offering storage propose renting at some price on the network, the one searching for storage choose the best offer for his needs and pay in siacoin for a certain time.
A small fee of the renting payment goes to the siafunds holders.

The storage mecanism is in ealy beta stage.
292  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If double spending is such an issue and VNL solved it, where is the press? on: August 28, 2015, 08:34:42 AM
Reading this, it looks like that the zerotime/0-confirmation has been
discussed alreadyin  some other thread. Could someone please give
me a link, because it's hard to search for anything here.

Couple of months ago I looked into this and thought it
was very promising idea, if I understood correctly PoS timestamps
were used to filter transactions that were not eligible for block
inclusion.

I'm very interested to know what you expert devs found to
criticize about john-connor's code (apart from the copyright issue,
which is not the point here)

Analysing the code to find the weakness in the 0 confirmation transactions implementation or the resolution of double spending is a time consuming work.

For others coins, the communauty/dev team have paid for expert review.
Even trying to do a double spending take a lot of ressources.
At least, to motivate experts to review the code, vnl team should provide substantial elements to back-up the claims.

I'm eager to hear who XMR paid for their review. Oh they didn't have to... they just forked BCN/CN and called it a day.
At least one : Kristov Atlas
https://twitter.com/kristovatlas/status/489075106388246528
and probably this too : https://cryptonote.org/news/2014/7/15/cryptonote-whitepaper-review-by-monero

Even if they forked the bytecoin code, this the monero team which have paid for review, beside publishing an academic review on the subject.

the funniest thing is that all the guys defending vanillacoin seem to be completely code illiterate  Grin

which pretty much explains their behaviour.

Studying the whole set of code take a huge amount of time for people not so familiar with crypto.

But the copying of bitcoin code is easy to verify once pointed by smooth and others. (by the way, thank you smooth and TPTB for your contributions).
295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: If double spending is such an issue and VNL solved it, where is the press? on: August 27, 2015, 03:56:45 PM
Nice to see that the team is complete with the same people as in every other thread. Still not a single line of code pointed out in ZeroTime's source which could be a vulnerability.

I'm enjoying the theorycrafting so far  Cheesy

Point out the line of code where it was solved, and I'll point out the line where it wasn't solved.

That's not how it works, you are here attacking a solution. It is live already and being used.

Double spending is an algorithmic /mathematic problem : the burden of the proof is on the one claiming having a solution!
The white paper already sent by John doesn't provide proofs (maybe there is another version more complete ?)

On the other hand, there are many aspect of vanillacoin I appreciate : the rewrite of the network part, the O(1) routing, the android wallet staking ...
These features are enough to qualify vnl above a lots of altcoins.
The instant transaction system seems a good + too: even with some eventual limits.

But  I believe John made somewhat excessive claims in regards of the facts : "complete rewrite of the code" and "solving the double spending problem".

Friends, I want to thank ofeefee. He understood the situation and helped me to return the stolen coins mintpal, although almost a year has passed. This is the only developer of coins, which helped return stolen while on mintpal I have had many different coins.

ofeefee - many thanks!

------

Good to know.
Ofeefee : thanks for all your work on flt.
297  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: July 08, 2015, 09:40:39 AM
Last time I was on Poloniex, I saw that there was a withdrawal limit of something like $25,000 per day or less.
So if your XMR are one day worth 1 million dollars, you'll have to withdraw every day for weeks and weeks to withdraw your XMR?

...
I think everyone here would be very happy to see this kind of problem to happen fo XMR!
Seriously, there will be a lot more exchange trading XMR if monero climbs to these kind of price.

Hey could someone help please i just downloaded the ccminer in op to start mining but for some reason im not getting any accepted shares

ccminer.exe --algo=whirlpoolx -o stratum+tcp://vnl.suprnova.cc:1111 -u x -p y
Hello
your hashrate is wrong : my GTX 980 is doing only about 300mh/s (ccminer is not very good with whirlpoolx : too high overclock? problem with your ccminer version ? try rebooting...

by the way c-cex.com added siacoin for voting!

Vote here: https://c-cex.com/?id=vote
Beware of c-cex : they are not very good with non bitcoin protocol coins.
I had bought some vnl there (vanillacoin), but they messed up with the wallet and pass the loss to us the customers, blaming the dev. I don't know whether this is only their fault or if the first versions of the wallet were really buggy, but their reaction toward customers was disappointing.

I agree with you.

SIA just only be Nvidia mining

Give up AMD, Don't Waste the electricity

I guess what goes around comes around lol in the old days you could really only mine BTC with AMD (and most scrypt) and yes I mined a lot then. But now it has flipped with SIA... NVidia is the winners... oh well guess we got to take the good with the bad  Grin

And you can bet, its only a matter of time before SW is out for asic mining as well.... its coming one day. I am sure there are some code writers already burning the midnight oil working on it as we speak  Wink

I am just wondering will it be SHA mining or scrypt mining?... or both lol cause this coin started out as CPU mining.
Private miners for amd are superior. I would bet sia mining is mainly on amd gpu farm with wolf0 or pallas private miners
