101  Other / Meta / Re: $2.500,000 lost in bitcointalk.org abyss??? on: November 14, 2018, 11:06:47 AM
Just imagine if theymos will introduce a 1 earned merit requirement to display signature for all accounts no matter the rank  Grin
I bet in a month you will see those numbers triple, especially since most merit sellers have probably depleted their stash.

That would be a very interesting development. And I see no reason why it should not be implemented.
If a user is ranked to be a Sr member or legendary mamber based in airdropped merits, they should be tasked to defend their position.
And one merit should not be a problem.
Also lower ranks would stop feeling like there's a vendetta against them.

Interesting statistics from the OP.
Also note that you're considering the actual worth.
The account buyers plan to earn more than they paid for it. Through the combination of effort put into it.
102  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: There are some indispensable things that new traders need to know. on: November 14, 2018, 06:28:14 AM
Majority if the points can be summarized into, keep your emotions out of the market. And that is one of the pratfalls that traders make.
Also insufficient preparations and wrong guage of their readiness.
Never go live if you have not achieved success in demo trading.
Some get board of practice trading and are thirsty for the 'real deal'. But with sufficient practise you are bound to fail.
103  Other / Meta / Re: [Suggestion] Add Warning Message ---> Please, search before starting a new topic on: November 14, 2018, 06:20:31 AM
I do not think it will help to show the warning, until and unless these threads are not trashed and message sent to OP telling it as duplicate thread.

Why I think so?

That would present quite a lot of workload to the moderators to search whether or not a thread has been discussed before and also decide if it deserves to be discussed again, as it can be presented with tweaks and modifications.

As users of course we can help out by reporting redundant threads and the mods take the appropriate action.
The conflict if old, golden threads and spam mega threads is what I believe is stopping any drastic action being taken.
104  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Bitcoin for the people or for the corporations? on: November 13, 2018, 06:54:35 AM
Bitcoin's original whitepaper presents Bitcoin as a 'peer-to-peer payment network' this signifies connecting individuals from all over the world together through the blockchain technology.
The blockchain is neutral and does not recognize individuals or cooperatios. Of course a large transaction made by a cooperation could greatly tip the price either way (a large transaction made by an individual would do exactly the same)
It is a neutral and open system
I would say, Bitcoin was made for everyone willing to take control of their assets.
105  Other / Meta / Re: No discord option in profile information? on: November 13, 2018, 06:48:28 AM
Well most of the profile information option are out of date sites, that no one really used any more.
If those could be scrapped, it could be replaced with more current and relevant accounts. Discord would surely be one of them.
For now you can fill it in the space for 'additional informations or any where you deem fit on your profile.
106  Other / Meta / Re: New board in altcoin? on: November 13, 2018, 06:44:31 AM
The altcoin section could definitely have more boards and child boards. This could attract other members who shy away from the spam and general discussion in most on the altcoin existing boards.

If it is to be implemented I propose strict moderation from the start. The forum management would need to out their feet on the ground against spam.
And make sure the new board is set right, from the start.
107  Other / Meta / Re: Top Members Vs Junior Members on: November 12, 2018, 02:15:39 PM
Open Scam Accusations  Page and see there are many threads where person are rated with negative trust because they posted against some business, insted of solving there issue they have
rated them with negative trust

Do you have enough evidence to prove that a user was red tagged byba default trust member, simply for posting about an alleged scam project?

I can hardly fathom such a situation.
The system is transparent and such a DT can be identified easily.

Again, there is no penalty for reporting a scam project even if your report is inaccurate.
Users are encouraged to keep the forum clean.
108  Other / Meta / Re: New type of fraud on forum on: November 12, 2018, 02:11:01 PM
Do the scammers have access to those accounts?
Are the legitimate users of those accounts still active on the forum?

The moderators can lock those accounts if the users are no longer active on the forum and whenever they come back online they can request to have their accounts opened with substantial proof of ownership.
109  Other / Meta / Re: What are the forum Administrators doing about Scam projects (Bounties) on: November 12, 2018, 02:07:32 PM
There is currently no active system to control or prevent scam ICOs.
This is a vast community and the users are primarily responsible for their safety and security.
The trust system helps to notify users of members who have been notably trustworthy and those who have not.

Again it is an unregulated system and giving at the discretion of the DT members and those within the users trust group.
Always be on your guard.
110  Other / Meta / Re: Is the new ERA of merit dying again? on: November 11, 2018, 05:47:19 PM

The merit system is still quite new and thus there are abuses or misunderstandings.

As the merit system gets older, people will get used to it and there will be less fluctuations.

Theymos introduced the Merit & new rank requirements on the 24th of January, that is almost eleven months to today.
I would say people have gotten really aquainted to the system and how, where, when, why and to whom to give out merits.

If there is still any inconsistencies then it is not for lack of familiarity to the merit system.
111  Other / Meta / Re: Old topics not discussed on: November 11, 2018, 05:37:25 PM
Yes, some threads are irrelevant and just gets repetitive replies.
Yes, this is a problem as it adds to the number of spam mega threads on the forum.
Yes, several suggestions has been made on how to deal with the spam.
No, there has been no official decision made on open threads.

Since suggestions are being brought to the table, could we have a thread on meta, were users can suggest solutions to problems in the forum?
This could reduce the number of threads and repetitive suggestions on the same topic.
112  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: $6 Billion gets wiped out the cryptocurrency market on: November 11, 2018, 11:47:51 AM
The overall market capitalization covers all cryptocurrencies which ate listed on coinmarketcap.
And considering that the value of coins change rapidly, some are subsceptible to manipulations.

During the bull run of last year, the crypto market grew to over $800 billion dollars I'm market capitalization, mostly down to the influx of new coins.
It has little effect on bitcoin.
113  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 🔥🔥🔥 Hunter's Guild - Fighting back against corrupt managers and ICO's 🔥🔥🔥 on: November 11, 2018, 10:26:40 AM
ICOs are in a very sorry state at the moment with the rapidly growing rise in cases of scam ICOs.
And investors and bounty hunters alike suffer from the lack of regulation.

One way would be to report the bounty manager here on bitcointalk and they could be tagged and given negative trust rating.

Either they reduce the payments after the campaign is done, they false advertise one bounty pool and they change it after the ICO is done or they don't pay at all.

Or they pay in full tokens which turn out to be worthless, considering some put little effort and much smaller capital into the running of the projects.
And create illegal tokens to dump on the market.
I am in support of your cause.
114  Other / Meta / Re: If merit is like A lottery jackpot then it could be so hard to acquire! on: November 11, 2018, 10:08:02 AM
I can hardly see why you would draw up a statistic just to disprove it.
As you have argued and proven, merit is not a lottery and everyone has an equal chance if getting it.

Luckily, getting merit is not like a lottery jackpot because it could be given anytime to those users that has shown unique and constructive posting skills

Well maybe not too equal, other members are naturally skeptical about new members and they would not automatically rain merits on you, and you have to gain acceptance gradually, like in every community.

I have noticed that the higher you go the more freely and generously other members merit you. As your intention on the forum would have become well defined.

New users should also approach the forum with similar skepticism, this is an online platform and everyone has an opinion.
Analyse all the contents available here and filter out those that are not beneficial to you.

I'm happy and I think the merit system is the best thing to happen to this forum period. Its not perfect by a long stretch but its done more good than harm.

I would argue that the trust system is a better addition. And has more practical use on the forum.
115  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Technical Perspective of bitcoins. on: November 10, 2018, 02:18:04 PM
Like every other notable invention. The idea stems from a long line of bright minded individuals, who have started and built on an idea.
Full credit of course goes to the inventor, but others deserve notable mentions.

Bitcoin still functioning well to be used as to make your own bank, giving you freedom to transact without being restricted by countries boundaries and making it truly global in Nature.

Bitcoin can not be controlled, but it can be restricted or regulated, so there are countries where you would not be able to trade, transfer or receive bitcoins (or any cryptocurrency)
116  Other / Meta / Re: My thoughts on why threads that are spam-flooded should be deleted on sight on: November 10, 2018, 02:09:46 PM
There is the risk that users start complaining about the arbitrary system of ruling in BT.
Most of these bounty/ANN threads require users to post weekly reports on the forum. This clogs up the boards and lead to mega threads with zero quality contribution.
If they are motivated to use a Google form it would lighten the load on the forum.

Also, since regular users barely return to threads which they started and which sometimes grow to spam mega threads, these can also be locked or archived by moderators.
There could be an unofficial system where mods use their discretion to decide if the discussion on a thread has effectively ended and if the thread had served its purpose.

There are lots of historical threads I would love to be left open and bumped often if possible.
117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Isn't SEC Demonstrating it Hates Anything Decentralized? on: November 09, 2018, 06:13:53 PM
Is this Zachary Coburn guy a US citizen or not? My guess is that he is but I would be really interested to know if not. I wonder if the scenario would be any different for someone who is a US citizen or not, surely if they're not a US citizen or based in the US then the SEC has no remit?

I can't get an accurate information on his state of origin, but he had his early education in England. So there are chances he is English.
Doesn't the country where the establishment is registered count more than the origin of the founder?
118  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can we overcome the hard times? on: November 08, 2018, 08:47:37 PM
The cryptocurrency space us s circle of highs and lows. Highly volatile and unpredictable.

And everything (currency) is not in red, the market moves up and down, alternating greens and reds, except of course your chart reads from Jan, 2018.
The market is not in a free fall, rather it has shown sustained stability over the last couple of months.
119  Other / Meta / Re: Can there be other ways to earn merit? on: November 08, 2018, 08:37:50 PM
.
Giving us the option to hide our activity and merit on our posts will be a better suggestion, IMO.

That's a good suggestion. The crave for merits is increasing by the day, and it comes mostly from users who put in little effort into getting it.
It was designed to encourage and reward quality contents, but has been the main topic for spam and redundant threads.
We should maybe pit emphasis on some other profile information, the most important which I think is the trust rating.
Topics on how to earn positive ratings and recover from a negative one would be welcome.

I can't see the OPs point of view, and how gifting merits for longevity would improve the quality of the forum.
120  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What should I do to gain Merit? on: November 08, 2018, 08:45:08 AM
Merits are not handed down because you ask for them.
And making a thread asking about a topic that has been discussed extensively would not also help.
Time to stop thinking what the community can do for you, but rather what you can do for the community.
How you can provide relevant and helpful information.

Your post history is not going to score you any points, so for starters put effort (like the one you out into the OP) into your regular posts.
Avoid posting in spam boards as some merit awarders have those boards in ignore.
