You should not judge people by their post count... that's all the little title means.

You shouldn't judge solely on that, but it should be a factor.
602  Economy / Speculation / Re: Inversed behaviour? on: September 19, 2011, 03:59:56 AM
It is a simple reason, there are smarter and more sophisticated investors that have the resources, money and technology, to know what the average investor (you and me) is thinking and will do and knows how to make (take) money from us.

They are smarter and they will almost always win. They have the money to move the market where they want. You can't beat them, they know yours and the markets psychology very well.

Maybe, but my bet is actually it's related to a panic reaction. You buy when it's on it's way up because you are panicing that you will miss out and you sell on the way down because you are panicing that you will get caught in a major loss (you've already held into a loss hoping it will turn back up). Both are actually very natural emotional responses to the circumstances but logically, if something has gone up a lot, then it doesn't have far to go before it stalls, and if something has fallen a lot, it has more potential to rise.
603  Economy / Lending / Re: large investment for an electronic handheld wallet? on: September 19, 2011, 03:16:30 AM
What kind of smartphones are you talking about that cost $200+

Most droids are $200+ if you aren't willing to extend your contract.
604  Economy / Speculation / Re: Let's recap on what we've seen in the past few months on: September 18, 2011, 06:36:15 PM
The current board seats two FPGAs which cost $158 retail from Digikey.  The power circuitry, and, really, the rest of the board should be manly enough to seat six or eight of those.  Basically we're a small rework away from a $1400 board that could churn out as much as 1.8 gigahash (but today would yield around 1.4).
This could be done TODAY, with TODAY's pricing.

The ROI on this is certainly impressive, but I don't really get how this can be used as part of a business model unless the product were offered on the market or the person running the business knows how to make this mod.

I'm still not seeing your numbers though. If we use the current going rates of $210 for the main board and then $200 for each chip and each chip is at 90Mhps, then a 6 chip board is $1410 and does 540 MHps. The 1.8 Ghps board would be 20 chips, which would be $4210. If you got the chips for your retail price, it would be $3160. I think you skipped over something that shows it's possible today at today's pricing. Maybe you were using 150Mhps per chip (the 300Mhps rumor), but that's still $1896 for the chipset from Digikey, so I still don't get it.

Any os is going to have vunerabilites even if you right it yourself from line 0, android, ios, xp, 7, linux, osx all have published vunerablities in one maner or another

All I will say is that I agree with this statement, but that it is limited in it's scope of thinking.
606  Economy / Lending / Re: large investment for an electronic handheld wallet? on: September 18, 2011, 05:32:10 PM
i'd take a look here if you're going to try and develop a device like that, http://www.liquidware.com/

This would not be for me. The problem is security. If you have a stack like that on linux, it's possible to hack. Especially for embedding computing, there's really no way to ensure an update of all of the devices once an attack is published.
607  Economy / Lending / Re: large investment for an electronic handheld wallet? on: September 18, 2011, 04:08:22 PM
I actually have this as an idea for a side project as well, with different goals though (and mine is not so flashy). It's just the case that there have been a lot of break-ins and threats of virii etc, and I know I could make a dedicated device that was secure in it's wallet versus securing a PC or a smartphone. Having a wallet on a SmartPhone seems like a terrible idea to me. There has been a known attack on a cell phone via Bluetooth. If BitCoin eventually takes off then it will become profitable to write one of these and just cruise airports or other public places looking for wallets. Even if the wallets are encrypted, an active virus can just grab it from memory when you spend from it (you have to decrypt it to use it).
608  Economy / Lending / Re: Loan Request on: September 18, 2011, 03:54:54 PM
sorry where exactly... what did you look at in blockexplorer to deduce this?

IBB posted a payback URL when I was looking at the thread last night. It showed a payment of 7 bitcoins to it 9/17, and a subsequent moving (selling?) of those bitcoin an hour later. It seems like the IBB removed that post, so I'm hesitant to link it, although I have it in my history and just looked at it again to be sure.

Any offers? You can get it for your girl who likes Twilight.

Why are you listed as a scammer?
610  Economy / Lending / Re: Loan Request on: September 18, 2011, 08:05:44 AM
If you don't do it, I suggest also sending the person a PM when you post that it's time to pay.

Looking at block explorer, it looks like it was paid back.

I hope everything goes well  Smiley

Thanks. In this case, coincidentally we live less than an hour from each other, so I'm actually a lot less worried than one would normally be. I actually have a friend who is a cop in his town, not that that matters that much (police don't generally get involved in civil cases). Ultimately, I can just file a small claims suit for $50 and he will need to come to my town to resolve it, which will cost him more than the loan itself.

Plus, he's a senior member and a stand up guy, so I don't think it's an issue.
612  Economy / Lending / Re: 20+ BTC loan 150% payback on: September 18, 2011, 07:35:50 AM
No, I never got into the OTC thing but I have done business with people (senbonzakura, LokeRundt, qwk) here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=26038.0

I also bought Bitcoins via PP months ago from Rysterf, not sure if he's still around.

Sorry I don't have anymore solid references.

(Edited: I'm going to pass on this. I decided to just liquidate what I have).

613  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a loan until Oct. 28th - Loan amount + 15%, open to other terms. on: September 18, 2011, 03:09:33 AM
PM sent.

Everything checked out, so as agreed, I sent ~ 51 bitcoin (exact amount in PM) to the address you provided in the PM. It is from TradeHill and they said it can take up to 12 hours. I never had a problem with getting btc from them before though. I'll notify you when it's in blockexplorer.
614  Economy / Lending / Re: 5btc loan request on: September 17, 2011, 05:08:02 PM
scammer label please

It's been said before but you need to have better criteria for these loans. It's a little disheartening to read these, especially since I'm about to loan someone some btc.
615  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a loan until Oct. 28th - Loan amount + 15%, open to other terms. on: September 16, 2011, 10:55:12 PM
To be honest, my feeling is that the value of BTC will fall more than 15% in the next month, so I'm hesitant to do this loan. If it were nominated in usd, that would be different.

I could do it in USD, i need $242.99 still...

So I send you $242.99 in bitcoin and on October 28 you send me $279.44 in bitcoin. Prices are based on the mt gox bid at that time (e.g. 4.80 and thus 50.6229167 btc).

I'll also need to know your real name, phone number, and address in PM. In the same PM, include the btc address you want it from. I'll be transferring directly from tradehill, so I won't know the source address. When I send the funds, I'll send a text to that phone number.

Edit: actually I will need more than this since you could just fake this info. When you PM me your info, I'll call you and give you more details.
616  Economy / Speculation / Re: Let's recap on what we've seen in the past few months on: September 16, 2011, 09:59:57 PM
The argument is, that at really low prices (< $1), the difficulty (also part of the roi calculation) should drop significantly. It all depends on wether or not it really would drop at such low prices. I still hope we wont find out.

I know the argument, and the argument is speculation. I don't think it's something to build a business model after. If difficulty does come down or price does go up or cost/Mhps does go down, then it can change the equation for these things, but making assumptions about what might happen is just gambling.

And for the record, if the difficulty drops to 800,000 and the price to $3, then the X6500 has an 18 month (really 21 month) ROI. There is nothing stable enough about BitCoin that I would enter into it with an 21 month ROI on dedicated hardware. When I bought my rig, the ROI was just under 3 months. If the price goes to $2, the ROI is 28 month (41 months). This is using the 300 Mhps number which isn't guaranteed. There is nothing about low prices that is good for FPGA.
617  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will we see BTC at 1$ in the next few weeks? on: September 16, 2011, 09:53:24 PM
A drop from $5 to $1 will take a similar change as a drop from $20 to $4, in otherwords, it will take at least a few months to do it, not 3 or 4 weeks.
618  Economy / Speculation / Re: Let's recap on what we've seen in the past few months on: September 16, 2011, 07:08:55 PM
Right now the X6500 FPGA costs 610 and will deliver 180 Mhps.

I know some people here don't give a damn what ArtForz believes. Well, take this as his opinion then:

(this was on 2011/9/16 on #namecoin)
Quote from: #namecoin
<ArtForz> I wouldnt be surprised if someone got 300Mh/s+ out of a S6-LX150

So the parameters of the calculations might change in the future.

300Mh/s puts the ROI at 26 months, which is really 37 months given the reward decrease. In many cases a 37 month ROI would be great, but there is a severe amount of risk here. That is the ROI today at today's prices and today's difficulty. It's doubtful this will hold up for even 15 months let alone 37.

And my main point is that as the btc price decreases, this ROI decreases too. People are saying that low prices are where FPGA shines, but it really just gets worse.
619  Economy / Services / Re: Asian Breast Implant Pictures - From Small B to DDD. on: September 16, 2011, 06:45:02 PM
This is a PERFECT example of how things SHOULD be...

Those nips are too high on the breast. Sabi's wife has them in a better position. Also if you look at the before pics, the nipple length has nothing to do with the surgery. I did have a Japanese fling that had nipples like this so, it's not that strange.
620  Economy / Lending / Re: 5 day, 5 coin loan for hosting. Repay in BTC or Gold/Silver on: September 16, 2011, 06:17:41 PM
Repayment due on Friday, Sep 16 ~4pm PST.

Did you get repaid?
