21  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why is a strategy still making money after it has been published? on: January 14, 2019, 06:30:10 AM
Quote
The continued success of many people proves this.
Not really, market is zero sum, so for all these people to loose, some must also win. You never know if that because of skill, or just pure luck.

Therefore, an effective method of making money must be a method that cannot be used by everyone.
I think people really need to understand this. This is the reason why nobody will give you a bot that makes X% per month. That is free money that they are giving you. Why would anyone do that.

Therefore, the winners in the stock market must have something different from ordinary people in their character.
Yes. But the others can still play the game. Somebody needs to provide all the money so the people on top can actually win.
22  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is the best Bitcoin robot? on: January 13, 2019, 11:15:25 AM
You don't need BOT, bot is dark box where you don't know what's going on, somebody promises you X% but it always ends the same - you lose money. Because seriously - why would someone just give you money for free? Market is a zero sum game. If somebody just gives you bot with X%, that is money out of their pockets. Also, each strategy has limited number of % (Alpha) it can give. If you give it to 3 people, well guess what, now it's not X% anymore, now it's X / 3 %. You just gave away your money.

If you want to automate stuff - what you need is a PLATFORM, not a bot. A platform, that handles automation, integration with exchanges etc etc, but YOU handle the strategy. You define when to buy and when to sell.

Always look for free and open source platforms. Most paid stuff is just scam.

One such platform that I can suggest is Gekko. If you want to see real, reasonable results that you can achieve (not +100% per month when market is 80% down), check my Medium posts, where I test different open source strategies and analyze their results.

For example, here I tested 17 strategies with 120m Candles through a whole year 2018:

23  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: It is not your fault that you are loosing in trading! on: January 11, 2019, 07:27:05 AM
Who's fault is it then? Your trade was so right but the market is so wrong? No, market is always right, even if when it's wrong. Just like referee in a game.

How about taking accountability of your life and results? It's always your fault. Even if you think it's not, it's still YOUR money you lost, that's what counts. You can blame whatever if it makes you feel less sad, but best chance is that will keep you from admitting your mistakes and fixing them.

Not your fault yeah right

Most used trick of newbies - making money disappear.

way too technical
This is one of the most basic strategies ever, created in 1970s. You are in an industry where you are playing against some of the best mathematicians, developers and financists. I think you need to get a little bit technical to stand a chance.
26  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: “Turtle Trading strategy” implementations on: January 04, 2019, 07:58:27 AM
Do you have backtests results for different coins with this?
27  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: I backtested 15 Neural Network trading strategies with TOP20 Crypto Coins on: January 03, 2019, 05:13:18 PM
Hey all, I was planning on writing new piece where I backtest full Year 2018 with top strategies, would someone be interested in Medium post like that?
28  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: TA Indicators and their combinations on: December 30, 2018, 10:26:09 AM
Why you think that it will work at all? If market dont create money all you earn is someones loose. That means that you need to be better than others to earn yes? So if earning on market would be mechanical (3 indicators and i buy) than all bots will be running on those indicators and you, manual trader, wont be better than others because bots will be dozen times faster than you. Also TA needs high volume. If coin has 100 btc daily volume ( only 70 coins on binance has higher daily volume) than 1-5 btc is enough to destroy chart and create fake buy/sell signal. And 1-5 btc is not even a whale. Its kid who invested his pocket money in 2014.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4420866.msg39412664#msg39412664 - here i explained why TA should not work (at liest blind indicator combination). Especially in 2018.

I use TA on high volume coins, but i rather use it to spot w whale. To spot where sell signall created extra supply that didnt dumped price as it should (whale bought all supply), where none of TA lover would buy.

If you are using manually combination of indicators you are loosing with bots and whales.

Finally someone who understands how trading works. Great comment! Posts in this forum make it seem like you can pick some random indicator in single timeframe, use configuration that was discovered in 1970 and beat the market. Wake up people! There are huge trading companies with Neural Networks/Machine Learning tools that look at every possible timeframe and every possible indicator with every possible config. And they have the same analysis for fundamental data too. And they make decisions automatically in milliseconds.

Yet here you are, looking at your Bollinger Band 60 minute candles with 20 period and 1 std dev and thinking that the market still acts the same as it did in 1970. That you will somehow make the money with most basic indicator ever with the most standard configuration. Yeah right, sounds legit. Run some backtests and see how your strategy has worked in the past, might see a little surprise there.

And yeah, then there are whales. They don't care about your support lines, when it's time to sell, it's time to sell.
29  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The Fate of ICOs. on: December 28, 2018, 07:44:44 PM
I think all these wannabe ICOs dying will be very useful in long term. Behind most of them were useless products with 0 real life use cases, the sooner they are gone, the sooner companies will realize they need to build real products, the sooner prices will start to moon again. Without real world adoption, all this is useless.
30  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Can we do 15 - 30$+ per day by trading successfully in these market conditions? on: December 28, 2018, 07:01:29 PM
15-30$ is completely relative to amount of what you put in. If the question is "can I make X" answer is always yes, but better question is "what is the probability I can make X". First and foremost, market dictates what you can or cannot make. If it stays flat, guess what, you can't make a cent.
31  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: the right time to buy ETH. on: December 28, 2018, 06:29:29 PM
A lot of people say ETH is way way undervalued currently, so I'd say it's good time. Definitely better than few months ago.
32  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Using ATR for Position sizing and Stop Loss on: December 28, 2018, 10:01:19 AM
Instead of finding some magic formula online, get a backtest tool, try multiple options an see the statistics. For example, backtest last few months with 0.5 ATR SL, 1 ATR CL, 1.5 ATR SL etc and see that are the results. Of course, past results does not guarantee future results, but at least you will probably see some configurations that are completely useless. Much better than trying to decode some magic formula without understanding what could be real trading results with that.

How can i backtest a strategy? Im new on trading, all i have been doing until now is fundamental analysis and rebalancing my portfolio only.
I want to put some money apart and start learning.

Is not decoding a formula, i only wanted to learn how I adjust my Stop Loss using ATR, to understand the basics. Don't know if that formula is correct or not, just used it to see if it would stop at my risk of 2%.

You need to use some tool like Metatrader / Ninjatrader / Gekko and backtest and see which configuration is the most promising one.
33  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Can I daily earn 10% on: December 28, 2018, 07:52:12 AM
The best of the best quant hedge funds in the business achieve 20–30% in a good YEAR while struggling with single digits in a more normal year.
Pantera, which is one of the most known Crypto funds, seems to be DOWN over 70% year-to-date.
Crypto Index Funds are 50% DOWN this year.

And yet you will be 10% up today and each day after that, and 300+ at the end of the month. Because you "think positive", "believe in yourself" and "really deserve it", which is your secret key to success. Best of the best quant hedge funds obviously don't know that, that's why you will beat them. Aha, sounds legit. Good luck!
34  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to make money with bitcoin price dropping? on: December 28, 2018, 07:46:36 AM
Once the price of Bitcoin is dropping it will affect the price of altcoin which has huge potential in the market. So in this case, we have to grab as many coins as possible until those prices start recovering because dropping and recovering are common in the crypto market.

People also said you need to grab everything once it dropped to 12k, how has that plan worked so far??

better chance here compared to gambling
Unless you are doing real statistical analysis and backtesting, this is gambling.
36  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How to make money with bitcoin price dropping? on: December 27, 2018, 08:29:17 PM
I heard in stocks, this is called shorting.  But i read if you short, you could lose a huge amount of money.  Could you do this with bitcoin?  Example my thoughts were hey its the holidays, so most likely ppl will withdraw money and thus btc drops.  So i figure around now, btc price would drop.

my opinion is-those who bought bitcoins at a crazy price and could not sell on time it is only worth waiting because now there is no sense to sell. the price is very low for this. need patience and I think the price will go up

Yeah, people also thought it's not worth selling/too low when it dropped to 12k 10k 8k and 5k.
37  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Groing your trading balance with 3,778% in 1 year by only 1% profits daily on: December 27, 2018, 06:35:40 PM
Trading !== Investing.
If it's one of the best things, how come 90% retail traders lose money trading over the long run?
38  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 365 day 100$ trading challenge. 21% profits in 5 days. join the contest!!!!! on: December 27, 2018, 06:30:09 PM
Can we see a full backlog of trades somewhere? Also, posting after the fact does not seem too convincing. Could be useful if you could post before what trade you are aiming for like "rsi currently at 20, expecting to go up therefor buying", we need to see the prediction factor, otherwise it's just numbers.
39  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Which platform is best for Trading? on: December 27, 2018, 06:14:03 PM
Binance if you want to go for most amount of different coins.
Bitmex if you wan't to short and websockets support for your bot.

Just want to make people aware there is a possibility, instead of putting their money is the so called 'legit online investment platforms'.

Even if it's 100$, it's much better to spend it elsewhere... Trading is statistically one of the worst things to do.
