Appreciate the update and review even it was about a year ago, good guide. However need to ask from the photos what were the readings pointing to as there were no unit on power meter...

Especially like to know the efficiency mode, or list out the power Kw for each mode. What is the actual drawn power KW?

Thank you very much.

3  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: antminer s9 fan direction is wrong? on: February 24, 2019, 09:30:50 AM
check this datasheet out:

https://datasheet.octopart.com/V12E12BMM9-53-Nidec-datasheet-505679.pdf

The last 2 digit denotes - Monitor / Controls Options.

I had my S9 with "-07" front sucking fan (speed stable fan), and "-57" rear blowing fan (free running free)
No wonder the Front always has its RPM adjusted, and rear normally does not change much.

Hi NewPac folks,

Like to thank all whom had contributed in the forum into optimizing the Gekko Sticks, and I have achieved my milestone getting about 100+ Gh/s for my 10 Gekko sticks after readings the threads experts have advise.

Now, I am getting above 1 TH/s for my little disco platform all the nights not just Saturday... dance away, John!
Hehe ...  Grin

Thank you.

Can someone explain what the missing nonces mean?

Feb 11 21:37:17 raspsvr1 cgminer[8850]: GSH 1: missing nonces
Feb 11 21:37:17 raspsvr1 cgminer[8850]: GSH 1: Toggling ASIC nRST to reset
Feb 11 21:37:18 raspsvr1 cgminer[8850]: GSH 1: setting frequency to 600.00MHz

I am getting this on one of the Newpac.  I have three running on a powered hub with fan.  The other two does how have this issue.

Also, can I set different frequency for one of the newpac's?

Read the thread owner's 1st Post on how to get different frequencies for different types of Gekko Sticks, but not sure how it can be done on same type Gekko Sticks different frequency each.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5053833.0

1st, take a step at a time from 100 to 125 to 150 to 175 to 200 to 225 to 250 ... then finally 450 MHz (my case) and check the hashes along the way... confessed that I did go 500 once skipping 400, some when zombie and disabled, some resetting... they were too hot using normal DC 12v FAN.

From what I understand, the sticks are running too... high frequency and getting very hot. Use a thermal IR gun to check the temp. and I normally point the beam red dot at the middle screw at the back of PCBA getting 39 to 45 degC.

Now, I am using a 12V PWM 3.9A with temp. control Fan to cool it, quite similar to those Innosilicon, Bitmain miner has and also the hashing Bitcoin whining $ound to my ear$...  Grin

Also, you need to know each sticks has its own unique character and need to be tweaked or re-calibrated in order to suit its environment.

My Sipolar USB3.0 20 ports hub only support upto 2.10A each port, so I need to ensure that my Sticks don't go above this limit or it gets very hot and unstable. Also, don't forget when the sticks toggle to set frequency the Voltage should be as close to 4.90-5.00V but I got some that are 4.85V with 2.09-2.10A @500Mhz however are somehow a couple of stable ones.

Keep in mind, that the sticks are not the best in quality as the it bends when plugged and may touch each other because the USB connector are not soldered correctly as these affects the air flow, and may cause component short when plugged into too close ports which I had to sacrifice the ports leaving empty port in between.

I use a USB plug in functional tester with the sticks pick in to read out the voltage and current as a guide so I can adjust and tweak it little tiny bit ...  Grin at my window Laptop and plug it back to my Hub.

Hope this helps, Happy Exploring, Evaluating ...
Getting my S15 and T3 soon ...

Can anyone else correct me if I am wrong, thanks?
5  Bitcoin / Mining support / Question about powering Antminer S9s in Singapore on: January 23, 2019, 09:36:19 AM
Hi Folks,

Greetings from Singapore.

My apology if this is not the thread to post here, please help to redirect, thanks!

I have just bought 2 used units of Bitmain Antminers S9 with PSU from eBay US sellers and they are on the way as I will be starting my home mining.

But after reading the posts here, it seems quite a concern on the wall outlet power as my thought that the miner is just like the hair dryer, and plug into a normal 3 pin UK 220/240v 13 AMPS outlet with do, or I am wrong now ...  Huh

Can anyone advice me, please?

And i just ordered another L3+ x2 ....  Shocked worried now ... I may burn my house down...

Thank you.

...

Also, I intend to keep this formfactor around. If we can ever get Bitfury stuff working, there'll be a 6-chip Bitfury Terminus R606. It'll be orange.

Hehe ... did some reading on past posts...

Is the reason for the name and color?

Yes, very closed. I made a few hundred, but something with the chips was causing an unacceptably high failure rate so I shut it down.

You can do it Sir,

Keep it up! ... troubleshooting... analysis... testing and re-testing, re-engineer and the cycle repeats...  Wink
that is where the fun and joy is till the root cause is discovered and resolved.

Appreciate all you have done and contributed into starting and supporting the pods spirit!

Thank you and looking very much to see the new Terminus 2 launch soon, and get hold of a few too ...  Grin

9  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience NewPac Stickminer Official Support Thread on: January 20, 2019, 05:13:40 PM
Hi Folks,

Just sharing some experiments and thoughts in overclocking the Gekko Newpac Sticks.

As I have no idea where to probe the measuring points so I got the stick connected through a USB 2.0 functional tester to understand and know the Voltage and current drawn by the stick when the potentiometer is tweak.

https://imgur.com/a/HmJkk8A
Orico USB 3.0 7-ports hub just for experiment while waiting for the industrial hub.

Understand that on doing this way, there are other variables and factors involved such as room temperature, cooling fan capacity rpm, hub limitation, etc.

So please correct my understanding in my findings.

1. each Gekkoscience Newpac have it's own unique characteristics in Voltages and Current.
2. expansion hubs do make a lot of difference, it needs to supply a stable 5V and provide at least 2.1mA.
3. each time the Sticks are plugged into different hubs it needs to be tweaked for optimal result.
4. tweeting method is to adjust till to Max. Voltage allowable just before it triggers into sudden high/low current
All these depends on the power and stability of the USB Hub.
(So investing in a industrial type of multi port hub such as Gekkoscience USB2.0 7-ports or Sipolar USB3.0 12V/5A 20-ports does affect the performance of the sticks, also the cooling fans...)
5. tool used make a difference, use a ceramic tip flat head and not the normal steel screw driver.
6. make a mark on the potentiometer as a start point.
7. as for my setup, the USB2.0 functional tester needs to be hold firm when tweaking.
8. record the readings, stick GSH, MHz, Volt, Current, temp, before(default value) and after tweak.

After checking through my Newpac inventory, all has it own characteristics with the present test setup and limitations:
Some are at a low 4.5V with 0.83A before it triggers.
... some are at 5.03V with 0.76A before it triggers.

But whatever it was... all were able to run at 165MHz (shown 168.75Mhz) with 3 sticks per Orico USB3.0 7-port hub with present resources... however occasionally shows under voltage but still mining accepted ... hehe  Roll Eyes
hash rate;105G to 115G each (win & RPi).

Happy for now...  Grin
As I managed to setup running in both Windows and Raspberry Pi.

10  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: ★ NEW GekkoScience 100Gh/s+ NEWPAC Stick/USB Miner Sales x2 BM1387 ASIC ★ on: January 18, 2019, 01:04:26 AM

Some users have been struggling to get there NewPac sticks running at speeds over 100Gh/s. Therefore, I made this diagram to help any users, new or old. There is a potentiometer that controls the voltage, looks like a screw head, and is located on the PCB board of all NewPac USB sticks. If you pay close attention, you will notice a flat section along the outer perimeter of the screw head. Use that flat part for reference as you increase and/or decrease the voltage to meet your needs. Please note, even the slightest movement of the pot will affect the voltage, so only turn the screw head in very small increments.

Dear Rockmoney,

May I know where are the probe points to measure the voltage across the actual Vcc across the ASICs BM1387 with a multimeter?

Thank you.  Smiley
11  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: January 16, 2019, 06:28:24 AM
Guys for the life of me i cannot get cgminer to activate the GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Stickminer.
Using Ubuntu 16.04, I compiled properly with the --enable-gekko switch.

lsusb lists the device properly:
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 10c4:ea60 Cygnal Integrated Products, Inc. CP210x UART Bridge / myAVR mySmartUSB light

cgminer -n displays:
[2017-05-26 13:52:43.003] USB all: found 5 devices - listing known devices
.USB dev 0: Bus 2 Device 4 ID: 10c4:ea60
  Manufacturer: 'GekkoScience'
  Product: '2Pac BM1384 Bitcoin Miner'
 [2017-05-26 13:52:43.003] 1 known USB devices

but when i run ./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://sha256.eu.nicehash.com:3334/#xnsub -u XXXXXXXXXXX
it states no devices detected.
when i press U and then L i get this:
Bus 2 Device 4 ID: 10c4:ea60 GekkoScience 2Pac BM1384 Bitcoin Miner inactive
1 total known USB device

No clue how to enable this device. would love an expert to chime in. im lost, and new.

Hi, did anyone respond and did you manage to resolve this issue?

Any advise appreciated, thanks.  Smiley

I am facing this in my new Raspberry Pi...  Sad

Appreciate your sharing, and I am getting them interested showing off my Bitcoin account... hehe  Cheesy

Pi will be my next platform to test but presently have no confidence yet to set it up even I have already purchased the required inventory as this will definitely save on electricity especially it cost about USD0.17 from where I am...  Sad

Started with Windows 10 form factor as it seems easier not for the tech savvy, and has USB3.0 ss seems stable and much faster mining, and now looking into getting the industrial heavy duty USB3.0 ss 20 ports 5V/2.1A each to run all my available Gekko Newpac, at higher frequency.

Thank you for your sharing, and learning thru' reading, testing all the configurations as mentioned in this thread. Smiley

Hi folks,

I'm thinking to introduce "Home Bitcoin Mining" into homes to my friends and relatives, and wonder what would be the best and low cost setup & configuration ...  Cheesy

Assumption, keeping electric bills and fire hazard risk low from Low (min. no. Gekko sticks) to High (max. no. Gekko Sticks) output.

1. Run from a low cost refurbished i5-Gen 4/5 CPU with a small screen laptop with <45W adapter with min 2 ports USB 3.0 SS.
2. USB 3.0 10 port hub with 5V/2.1A each port. (actually how many hub ports or Gekko Sticks can 1 laptop USB port handle?) ...  Huh
3. Gekko Newpac BM1387 USB sticks.
4. Brushless cooling fans.
5. 6 fans laptop cooling pad.
6. AC extension sockets.
7. Winding and cooling locations, no rain or water risk.
8. Standby ABC types hazard fire extinguisher.
9. Running 24/7
10. Others not mentioned... like mining to my bitcoin address for a start...  Roll Eyes

Also, from where I am .... is always sunny so solar energy is one great consideration, and even use Peltier cooling chips generating drinking water too .... hehe  Grin

Anyone to feedback and comments, even to scrutinize is most welcome...  Grin
Share some photos of setups would be great!

Thank you.  Smiley

Dear CKpool Moderator,

Happy New Year 2019!

I just started to mine in CKpool, and accidentally click the wrong batch cmd to run after tuning the NewPac, with a dot worker1 so how do I delete or remove it?

As pointing my resources to 1 address is advisable accumulating more hash.

Thanks. Smiley

I'm far from a moderator, but if you mean you have, for example, a worker with just YourBTCAddress and another with YourBTCAddress.worker0 and another with YourBTCAddress.worker1 then they are indeed, different workers but  if they're all pointed to the same User profile and YourBTCAddress then they are all accumulated to be paid to the one user called YourBTCAddress. If you don't want to use a certain worker, just stop using it... and re-start your miner pointed to the Address that you want. It seems like once you use a new worker name in your User profile, it doesn't go away (for a long time?)... I've had a couple of worker numbers that I stopped using stay on the user's page for several months... CK or someone else will have to confirm if they can go away after a period of not being used... so far, this has not been the case for me.

Appreciate your reply, guessed I just have to leave it or decide in future to use it if any case needed for the additional dot worker1...  Grin
As long the BTCaddress remains the same.

Thank you, and have a great weekend. Smiley

Looks like your orico hub hasnt got enough juice to keep your sticks going. Whats it rated at? 30w across all ports? My plugable 7port hub with external power is drawing 30w with two sticks at 450m. So if yours are drawing say 10w each then maybe a bigger more powerful hub is needed. Invest in a gekkoscience one and you cant go wrong.

Appreciate your guidance, and you're right.
The Orico 7 port hub ext. adaptor is only pumping in additional 5V/2A + USB3.0 another 5v/2A so each only have 1A can't even charge a tablet.
Still on trial testing, will make the change as advise.

Will need to invest in a bigger plot of healthy organic hub with better pumping juice and proteins into this trees sticks... Wink

Thank you very much... Smiley

Hi Gekko community,

Greetings and Happy New Year 2019!

Started the year with my 1st Gekko Newpac trees planted in my 1st plot of Orico 7 port hub with 4 tree sticks, and started harvesting electro-fruits into CKpool. Hope to reap some profit$ at the end of season.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8ZVPm-KR9I9dG5sSzA2b1QxS1ptTF9GVkI0TndrU1RKVEhN

This is the mining screen shot to share, running only at conservative frequency at 125 Mhz. with average hashrate of 100GH/s and with cooling fans.
** Tried over clocking at 128Mhz(actual-131.25Mhz) and 130Mhz (actual-131.25Mhz) and the average hash rate dropped to about 80GH/s and sticks started resetting and restarting till I have to exit and re-plug in. Guessed I need better, bigger and cooler brushless fans ....

Thank you for all your contribution here, and got me started.
Hope to share more of my experience soon too...

KanoPool is KanoPool - not in any way related to any the other pools.
The servers are listed on the home page https://kano.is/
That includes an SG server.

Alt-coins are off topic for this entire section of the bitcointalk forum so no point asking about there here.

Yes! appreciate your reply.

Great! there is a local server (home ground soil to farm...) that complies to my requirement, and good to know, "No Alt. coin non-science here ..."

Think I found my pool to join if I am allowed as I am not too agreeable to those very "commercial" sites that are really thinking for their own pockets and share holders which is not wrong also... just my personal opinion.

Will be setting up my Hub Plot with Trees sticks directing my harvest to Kano asap.

Thank you very much for your quick respond, and yes, I'll continue my research in this interesting thread of 2K over pages to read and digest... Smiley

Have a great week!

Hi, New Year 2019 Greetings to All.

I'm a newbee here, and just got interested into mining with a small startup with Gekkoscience Newpac SHA256 x 10 sticks to learn and understand more about Bitcoin mining.

Please excuse my intrusion and apologize if this is not the thread to post this question here as there is simply much reading to do in this 2K over posting here, if so please help re-direct.
Thank you.

Had started in solo.ckpool.org (BTC.com affiliate?) as per instructed in USB sticks instruction.PDF. Switch to slushpool (b'cos of sg Server) but payout at 0.01 / 0.001 that will take 80 years. After browsing the internet, discovered about Kano.pool.

Just one dumb question?
Is BTC.com (China) related to CKpool, and how are they related to Kano-pool (sg server) ...? may need a quick recap on the history lesson since 2014 ..

Which is better to mine with present mining setup? and location in Singapore? ... pm me if not convenient to reply here.

Also,
Exploring into categorizing higher PTH mining hash equipment for other algorithm, Scrypt, Ethash, x11, etc. individually with promising investors (friends and old buddies) but with Main Coin and Alt. coin to mine, so if you have any good advice, even critics, I am most welcome to consider, thanks.

Thank you and have a great time enjoy Mining Your Own Business ... Hehe Smiley ...
