61  Other / Politics & Society / Re: IRS claims it has LOST two years' worth of emails from former official Lerner on: September 13, 2014, 11:17:43 PM
I'm an IT professional, you would be surprised how many people just keep a .pst on their local hard drive with all their emails on it which eventually dies even though they are trained to put them on the network share.
I had a service company that maintained the backup tape drives for a government installation for about ten years.  They could produce anything they wanted, no ifs ands or buts.

It would be interesting to see who's been hired and who's been fired in that chain of command of people overseeing the backups, since this nonsense started.
I would not at all be surprised if we were to see people/companies let go right around when Lenner's computer "crashed" and as a result the backups are "not available". The Obama administration has stonewalled this investigation and has publicly came very close to breaking the law.
Yeah.  Also consider that a fair majority of people, maybe 3/4, are not so rigidly and dogmatically political that they would always support the D or R.  If something was wrong in their office, they'd do what was right.

But I know where those IRS emails are.  They are in the same box with Obama's birth certificate and college records.

Smiley
My point was that when people and companies were fired when her computer crashed then it would be easier to set it up such that their replacements would overlook needing to find the backups of her computer files. The people being let go would not know that they were fired merely to cause chaos to avoid recovering the data. This would only take a very small number of people (probably only one or two) to execute
62  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Michael Brown shooting , what really happened?? on: September 13, 2014, 11:14:19 PM
There is also some evidence that shows that Michael Brown (and perhaps his family) are affiliated with bloods, which can be a quite violent gang/organization

May I see this evidence?
It doens't matter if he was affiliated with a gang or not. What matters is the fact that he was fighting the police officer who had legitimately stopped him and in the process of doing so had committed a felony. Officers have not only the right but the duty to use force to stop a fleeing felon if he poses an immediate threat to the community. If he is willing to assault a police officer to the point of needing medical attention then who knows what he is willing to do to an ordinary citizen.
Michael Brown was unarmed, so was Kelly Thomas, and so was Rodney King, Amadou Diallo, Manuel Loggins Jr., Ronald Madison, Sean Bell, Eric Garner, I could go on forever, but I believe I have confirmed that police are trigger happy, and all of the men listed with the exception of Kelly Thomas were people of color.

Michael Brown was unarmed... so what? The fact that he wasn't carrying a firearm didn't stopped him from robbing a shop and beating one of the owners there to pulp. Even officer Wilson, who was carrying a firearm with him, suffered very serious facial injuries as a result of the assault by Michael Brown. Just because he wasn't carrying a firearm, that doesn't mean that he posed no danger to the civilized society.

That was a hoax circulated by conservative sources, the picture was not of Officer Wilson
That is not true. You are a racist trying to cause worsening tensions between blacks and whites. The officer was harmed as a result of his interaction with Brown.
63  Other / Politics & Society / Re: ISIS Threatens Putin/Russia on: September 13, 2014, 11:09:39 PM
I was actually referring to (and leading into the direction) the economic stagnation that followed, in large part due to uncertainty and dread surrounding the ongoing war, which had to be "fixed" by trying to stimulate the economy on with very low interest rates, which led to the housing bubble, which, combined with a massively increased government debt, fights over the debt ceiling, and general political and economic instability of the US, at least in small part contributed to the recession we had in 2008, and the current decline that we can't seem to get ourselves out of (is that good for connecting the dots?) Yes, I'm saying if US didn't spend $3 trillion to invade Iraq, it would have been much better off.

How simple Smiley

Connecting the dots where economics are concerned must not be your forte. Going by that logic, I could also easily argue that not doing anything or not invading iraq would have caused the largest drain of oil resources the world has ever seen

Where does that come from? Were we heavily dependent on Iraq oil? I don't remember Iraq threatening to stop selling it.

Global oil supply. That includes oil transportation routes.

Are you blind to geography?

I don't think you have the slightest idea about how things actually work.
There was really never a lot of oil going through Iraq, all the oil that passed through Iraq was produced in the country. What the true threat was that Saddam could have burned the oil fields, destroying a lot of the supply of oil in the country while doing serious harm to the envirement
64  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Julian Assange Announces Plan to Leave Ecuadorian Embassy 'Soon' on: September 13, 2014, 11:06:53 PM
There will be no due process. There will be military detention. There will be solitary confinement. There may be torture. The treatment he will receive in the US, taking into consideration his already poor conditions of health, will be worse than being shot on the spot. A fair trial is exactly what he deserves. He desires assurance of no extradition because he knows he will not be granted one.

Bradley Manning was forced to undergo sex-change surgery against his will once he was returned to the US. Who knows what will happen to Snowden once he is captured by the United States? Forcible castration? We have to remember that the FBI / CIA is the world leader in inventing more and more innovative methods of torture and humiliation.
Yea, this is not what happened. He is gay and wanted to undergo the sex change. See the below quote from kluge
Huh Manning threatened to sue the Army for not paying for hormone therapy after declaring he wanted to be a woman.
65  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Police won't charge you, but they'll grab your money on: September 13, 2014, 11:00:58 PM
The best advise is to simply decline to answer any questions, and to keep anything that you would not want a police officer to see in plain view (including money). If they ask to search your car then you should withhold consent and this should stop the vast majority of issues.

There was an article in the Washington Post this week that talked about how much money local governments were making from these kinds of warrant-less seizures .

This may have worked 30 years ago, but no more. Refusing to answer questions is not only considered suspicious, but "failure to worship the ground that a cop walks on". They will search your vehicle without permission. If they find anything, they will just claim you gave them permission.

Most people just say "yes" to anything a cop wants. They have no idea how petty and vengeful many cops can get if you don't appease them.
People may say yes to what the cops request, but it is their own fault if something happens because they did as such.

The police have requested to search my car a number of times but have actually searched my car a grand total of never. They generally lead the conversation by asking if I have any drugs or weapons in the car then some time later ask to search my car. I decline, and he replies asking why and reminding me that I just told him that I do not have anything in my car. I tell him that I do not need a reason and that I have the right to decline. When he further presses the issue the only response he gets is that I do not consent to the search.
66  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Im getting free BTCs mined to my wallet - WTF??? on: September 13, 2014, 10:55:28 PM
I see posts like this from time to time, I was just wondering as a friend of mine noticed a few satoshi's going in, He thought it was free but I noticed his balance did not go up across all the addresses he had generated in that client, Can you confirm your actual total balance has gone up?

I was thinking it was to do with these "mixers" that are popping online, But even they cant just take coins out and replace them from a different source, It does not work like that.
Yes your balance in your wallet will actually go up, however it will be by a very small amount (less then a dollar). The kind of blockchain spam that you are referring to does not ever actually confirm while the spam in question has been confirming.
67  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 4.5% daily return... What idiot believes this? on: September 13, 2014, 10:53:53 PM
Till now they are paying ok,let's see what happen in future

My assumptions are that they will stop paying (but not scam, maybe?) in around 1 month. 3% a day is just too high for the investment to continue paying out.
By definition a ponzi is a scam. There is just no way around this. A ponzi is something that takes your money while claiming to be investing it but in reality is actually using your money to pay back other people's money. Since they are lying about what they are doing with your money they are scamming
68  Other / Politics & Society / Re: what dont you guys get about Snowden and the NSA? on: September 13, 2014, 10:51:37 PM
i don't see how the NSA issue has anything to do with right or left wing ideology.

it just has to do with privacy and the way that it is starting to errode. if the NSA has full capabilities to know every detail of our lives, don't you think it could easily fall into the wrong hands and set up for a state of totalitarianism? not just that, but if you have all the dirt on people, that gives you a shitload of power to fuck other people over.

Sometimes people tend to support the "agenda" of who is in office no matter what and this creates a left right paradigm where it doesn't belong IMO.  Most people don't agree with NSA spying on their citizens and this issue tends to gut muddled into a political issue when it in reality setting the precedent to treat people like criminals.  It only adds more confusion on top of an already complex and important issue when people make politics apart of the issue.  The spying is more important then a left right issue but is a huge part of the problem I have no doubt.
There is actually bipartisan opposition to the NSA spying. Congress in general was not aware as to the scope of what was happening. After it was reported that the NSA was spying at the level it was congress was actually briefed by the NSA as to what was going on.
69  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How to buy real estate with Bitcoin? on: September 13, 2014, 10:49:27 PM
The shadiest way to do it would be to pay the person the BTC and have the seller gift of equity the home to you,  but that is a humongous red flag and highly not recommeded. You will probably make the 8oclock news for tax evasion.
This would actually avoid very little in taxes. All this would generally avoid would be the taxes associated with the gain on the value of the property however there are many ways to avoid this tax and would only benefit the seller so the buyer would have no reason to send their bitcoin to the seller first.
70  Economy / Economics / Re: IT'S OFFICIAL: Paypal/eBay ACCEPTING Bitcoin! on: September 13, 2014, 10:44:12 PM
Tittle is misleading, good news but misleading.

Yeah, we are not quite there, bitcoin should be fully integrated into ebay, there is really nothing preventing this except politic.
Bitcoin is perfect for ebay scammers.

Fixed that sentence.

Ebay is already full of scammers as it is.

If other measures are not put in place the adoption of btc will only make it easier.
I think you are probably right about people scamming on ebay with bitcoin. I think it would create incentives for people to try to buy/sell (or hack) accounts with a lot of trades and auction something off that is high value. Since it is generally difficult to tell the value of past trades it would be difficult to tell what is happening.
71  Economy / Economics / Re: Easiest way to make BTC? on: September 13, 2014, 10:36:18 PM
Without any service or product to sell, and without just buying BTC, best bet is signature campaigns.
But suddenly these campaigns are going down and after Dice scam and PD announces they are also closing uncertainly around here
I would predict that we will see more signature campaigns in the future. We also are seeing that many smaller fixed rate campaigns are popping up all the time. With both of those being said I would say that signature campaigns is likely still the best way to make bitcoin.

I agree 100 % with you.
In fact, signature campaigns was great way for me to earn some free bitcoin until now Smiley
I hope that in the future many more signature campaign will start.
I do think it is kind of sad that the PD campaign is likely to close this month, and that it closed to most members after a year in operation. I have noticed that many have come and only lasted a few months, but there was almost always something to join in additional to PD
72  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Growning number of large mining farm and BTC generation rate on: September 13, 2014, 10:27:41 PM
But will this affect or shorten BTC initial end generating date ?

No difference, bitcoin mining difficulty move to correct this fact : https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty
even if the 50% of mining product shutdown, bitcoin difficulty decrease dramaticly to correct this.
This is not correct. If difficulty were to increase by 100% and them remain exactly the same forever it would mean that it took 1 week instead of 2 to reach the difficulty to change (and then it took exactly 2 weeks to change thereafter) therefore the date that the block subsidies would stop would be one week less.
73  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: mashka90 sending phishing links on: September 13, 2014, 10:23:54 PM
I got the same PM and the same message.

Agree, it's a phishing link.

Well spotted.. Also reported the user.  Sad
Out of curiosity was it from the same user? or was someone making a lot of accounts to send the same message?
74  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price will double on this news on: September 13, 2014, 10:22:41 PM

UK seeking to bar Russia from using SWIFT banking network

So they have to get the whole EU to agree to this? That could take forever, if it's even possible to get them all to agree to the same thing at the same time
They all agreed on the euro. I would not be surprised if all of europe were to agree to this however I don't think the russians would be buying bitcoin in masse because of this. There are few ways to use bitcoin in russia and the government is not exactly friendly towards bitcoin
75  Other / Meta / Re: account got hacked. a few suspected pools on: September 13, 2014, 10:19:35 PM
FYI: the account was banned earlier today for sending phishing links

oh my. thank you so much for THIS. now what do i do to prove it was hacked? so i can get it back
Right....your account was "hacked"

I don't think the fact that your account was allegedly hacked is enough to get an account unbanned. There is nothing to stop you from simply claiming that your account was hacked just to get it back
76  Other / Meta / Re: New Phishing Link Going Around on: September 13, 2014, 10:17:39 PM
I'm a hundred percent sure this is a new phishing link going around. I just got it a few seconds ago, and, I'll just drop it here so that people will be warned.

Hi bro! I have bad news for you! You can see about in there
http://bilcointalk.org/index.php?topic=654845.msg7515541#msg751554

As you can see, Bitcointalk is clearly spelled wrong. And, I've never ran into this guy before.
I both got this, reported the PM and posted a scam accusation about it.

It was more then obvious as to what was happening because I was already logged in and it was asking me to log in again
77  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: satoshin@gmx.com is compromised on: September 13, 2014, 10:15:16 PM
"The email said: Quote from: satoshin@gmx.com Michael, send me some coins before I hitman you." Not the fbi then?

Why wouldn't the hacker though - presuming it was hacked - not use it to profit by say falsely telling a reporter he was to sell the million coins after having shorted btc everywhere instead of making a death threat??
The reporter only contacted the account because of the death thread and the fact it was reported the account was hacked. Without the death threat he would not have been contacted to potentially make this statement.

The hacker did attempt to profit however it appears that the hacker was/is very immature and did not think things through very well
78  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Ten adverts using 9/11 disaster on: September 13, 2014, 10:08:33 PM
There is nothing sacred about the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Many events in history have had more casualties, been more tragic, etc. There is no need to self-censor 9/11 related content.
The victims of 9/11 were basically all innocent and did nothing to the people that killed them. Also a good percentage of the victims died because they were trying to save others' lives.

The other tragedies that are worse then 9/11 are also not commercialized nor should they be just like 9/11 should not be
79  Other / Meta / Re: Forum finances on: September 13, 2014, 10:06:16 PM
@theymos - are you still considering to offer accounts to have some kind of "donator" status for lessor bitcoin donation amounts (regardless if the title given will be "donator" or something else)?

It was discussed in another thread. Atm no, maybe in the future he will do something that will preserve the status of the original VIPs but will provide functionality along those lines.
I have seen quotes from theymos going both ways on this, but I am not sure what is the more recent/accurate.

What I am the most interested in is being able to access the sections reserved for donators and being able to change my username/custom title
Donators say their section is dead
I have head that also, but I would think there would be some interesting things discussed from years ago. Also there may be interesting discussions during times of crisis.
