The calculations are based on market cap predictions. The price per coin changes based on the market cap and the amount of coins in circulation.
He's right - there will be a massive yet steady change in the "money supply", also known as monetary inflation... However, if you read the coin site you'd know that Icelandic currency has devalued 96% in the past 20 years... The author claims that it's illegal to hold currency other than Iceland crowns... Auroracoin could well be a way to SHIFT money in and out of the country... Think about it... Once those bits start flying from anyone with a payment system... |

Surely NOT Ruby (way more scary than PHP), and probably not C++/CGI (too esoteric and crashworthy), probably not Python/web (still not ready for the bigtime), and don't even mention Java (the world will be a better place when people finally stop using it). Nothing wrong with Java running server side. The security hell that is java applets needs to die. I personally don't install java client side not because it is any direct risk but out of fear that some browser exploit will enable java applet access. If java applets were killed off an no longer supported by modern browsers I would have no issue with java client side either. Most financial institutions and large enterprises use java server side. Well there are problems with Java server side - high memory and CPU use, slow execution, occasional required restarting of backend infrastructure, and code bloat (Karpie's Bitcoin PHP class would take 5000+ lines of Java). Also Java server architecture didn't start off HTTP/REST-based - PHP was specifically designed for it (albeit recklessly). Finally, Java bugs always take longer to FIND AND FIX than any other language's - a major cost. The issue isn't so much PHP as the way it was used. As a side note, you can shoot of your own foot with any programming language, PHP just makes it easier than others. I would use Python over PHP because dynamic typing and implicit (warningless) conversion between types just makes it to easy to create bugs which only occur run time. Combine that with no test driven development and you got a recipe for hard to identify bugs.
very true - php5's execution is SCARILY NON-DETERMINISTIC from time to time... Someone up thread said testing, testing, and testing. That doesn't mean let me try to manually "test the hell out of this" it means things like unit testing, code coverage, mocking, automated test validation in build process, etc. That is impossible with the code as written. The code as written is untestable, unmaintainable, and undocumented. Everything is a bunch of static methods, magic constants spread throughout, SQL code interspersed with business logic, mixed with formatting. The few places where a constant should be used they decided to use a literal 100000000 for conversion from satoshi to Bitcoins. Money values are handled as floats. Everything is tightly coupled and poorly documented so if Mark ever did bring on additional programmers that would just be a timebomb waiting to go off. You can get god's gift to programming but if other "lesser" programmers can make fatal mistakes with your code because it is fragile ... it is bad code.
Hard to argue these points - nonetheless the old industry saying of "it's not a bug unless a customer finds it" holds true... With PHP a lot of poop can be swept under the rug or offloaded to the web server... I forgot to mention node.js as an option for web infrastructure - I am not a fan of anything google and I hate Javascript... Karpie might be polishing his coding skills up in a cell in the US soon... |

Hard fork / CPU algo asap! Would people please stop with this "Hard Fork, ASIC Resistant" mantra? This coin is too young and small to deal with a hard fork. It'll work much better if people just shut up and mine... If any coin becomes profitable and popular, 1-2 years later somebody releases an ASIC for it... deal with it. Is FIVE algos not enough for you to choose from? Thanks. Maybe you didn't understand, people ask for a fork because those who don't have ASIC or GPU basically can't mine this coin (waste of money to mine it with CPU), so if a coin designated to have multi algo so that EVERYONE can mine (CPU, GPU, FPGA and ASIC) doesn't have one algo specific for CPU is a fail and it needs a fork to fix it. Funny, because I myself mined ~400 MYR with CPU 2 days ago. Which coins CAN you mine with a CPU? Not very many, last time I checked Primecoin and Quark are the only ones likely to be worthwhile anyway? And did somebody ask for those algos to be added to MYR? Not what I saw. It's my understanding that CPU mining usually works only when a coin is new - somebody quickly hacks up the GPU miner code and the game is over... We can discuss further if necessary. Thanks We asked for prime algo to be added some pages ago... prime numbers algo is only for CPU (like primecoin or RIECOIN) - long time Primecoin is there, and nobody found a way to make a gpu miner. Maybe someday someone will release a gpu miner for that, but if it's not the case today, i think we have some time to enjoy cpu mining. MMC has a GPU miner Prime would not be a bad algo, however the code is different and integration might be tough. This dev has already wired together FIVE algo and created a "balanced difficulty" between them - why mess with a good thing? A hard fork is bad enough, but what if there were imbalances with difficulty when adding another algo? I like this coin the way it is! I vote NO on "new algo". In a brotherly way. If you're really into crypto, pick up a few ATI video cards and roll up your sleeves - CPU mining is a dying art! |

Already we are seeing pro crowd individuals and companies reaching out to government almost begging for Bitcoin regulation.
Because they stand to profit - for example, Vessenes was slobbering over the chance to run the only "government approved" exchange. Has the US government done a good job regulating financial companies for the last 20 years? NO - they've simply printed more money for Goldman Sachs, one of the biggest thieves in the world! What makes you think that they would like to "legitimize" bitcoin? They want to BURY it under a mountain of bureaucracy and fees! 15 years ago, Paypal started off trying to do what Bitcoin is doing, look where they ended up... They are convinced that the legitimacy that would come from it would better allow Bitcoin to spread and support whatever business model they happen to believe in as well as other social benefits to prevent the abuse of Bitcoin.
Bitcoin has plenty of legitimacy amongst people who UNDERSTAND how tenuous the global financial system really has become. |

I've seen so much bad code in my life... even in enterprise systems... this one looks quite average  I agree. I've worked as a software developer for 15+ years and this really is not that bad compared to some of the code out there. I was honestly expecting worse.. The code is not particularly readable, therefore it probably has some subtle bugs. OO PHP is some of the worst looking code out there, but it mostly works... Honestly, what else is anyone suggesting people USE to make this type of site? Surely NOT Ruby (way more scary than PHP), and probably not C++/CGI (too esoteric and crashworthy), probably not Python/web (still not ready for the bigtime), and don't even mention Java (the world will be a better place when people finally stop using it). |

1. there was no premine
2. 1 week old very few coins mined can't be dump killed
3. one of the few if not the only non-copy, inovative coin of 2014(maybe even 2013) (along with HUC)
4. dev is active
5. very tight comunity in early adopters everyone trying to improve the coin
6. 5 mother fucking mining algos anyone and everyone can mine
7. unique distribution method coins are very very well distributed
I haven't been on any exchange for 2 days. I don't give 2 shits about the price. I wanna mine 1 MIL first and then and only then I might think of mining other coins. All this coin needs is a little marketing and time , it's too good not to succeed. reddit tipping bot is active as of today and all the myr I got as bounty for my block explorer work (~8k) and some of my mined coins will go into that bot ... so yeah ... that's what I had to say for today good luck.
+1 KILLER design for this coin - 5 algos on the same blockchain is a great innovation! CPU mining is fine with Qubit and groestl - both work out of the box. Who needs to hoard a million of any altcoin? Community seems chill, so F haters and keep mining! PM me if there are tech tasks that need doing |

If Mark was knowingly running a fractional reserve since 2011, then I think this is clear-cut fraud with jail time involved. If Mark was not aware of the theft, then it is just incompetence/negligence. He would have an incentive to inject as much confusion as possible.
+1 - this Karp is bozo, but is still better than 90% of those Wall Street types... Running stolen coins through an exchange for fiat would be suicidal, thief would get busted quickly. So if a "cracker" really has 850K bitcoins (highly unlikely really), the question is "WHAT WILL HE SPEND IT ON"? Answer: a bunch of stuff from every site on the net that accepts bitcoin. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see "people" overstocking from overstock.com... actually good for the bitcoin economy in a way... |
