According to ESPN Cricinfo, ECB cancelled the tour as a result of "Covid bubble fatigue". Security reasons are not mentioned in the statement from the ECB. For the PCB this is very disappointing. And Ramiz Raja (PCB chairman) has reacted very strongly to the cancellation, pointing out that since the start of the pandemic Pakistan has toured England two times, and New Zealand/West Indies once each. He claims that the "western bloc" is united in its stance against Pakistan. Anyway, good to see that he's not blaming the BCCI now.
I have seen in the news of several news channels that Pakistan has canceled the series due to ECB security issues. I understood which was true news and which was a rumor. But as far as I know, the coronavirus situation in Pakistan is now stable. Canceling the series for coronavirus does not seem reasonable. Looks like you forgot the reason why cricket was not played in Pakistan for over a decade, Sri Lankan players were attacked in 2009 when the players were approaching the stadium and the terrorist were targeting the bus they were travelling and many of the players were injured and in another firing one of the umpires were shot and these are not rumors but what really happened and this is not the first time New Zealand cancelling a tour in Pakistan, back in 2002 they packed their bags and went home when there was a bomb blast near their hotel. A few days more and we will see whether England will tour Pakistan under these circumstances. I am not forgetting anything but right now situation is not like in 2002 but still few peoples spreading feuds like this here all things going normal just Taliban take over in Afghanistan is hurting badly too few countries as they lost some big amount and few lost their supremacy. ECB was next country to tour Pakistan and there new decision is also coming in day or two. There are firm chances that there decision will also be in negative. I feel sorry for PCB and all cricketing fans in Pakistan, as its totally unethical to cancel tour in this manner.
I don't think PCB can do much about it in ICC, as PCB is not very strong board compared to CNZ. You are right in saying that Cricket is no more game of gentleman, as boards having adequate money can turn ICC in there favor. There is no surprises here, England will pull out of the tournament and ECB will come out with the same statement like the New Zealand cricket board that they got news about the security threat. I am not sure about the real situation why New Zealand pulled out at the last moment even when their team was literally on the ground. It is well understood that Pakistan's security threat is one of the most frustrating aspects for its people. Pakistan had literally recovered from the inability to host home games when NZ postponed the series. There are many people who are not happy as they want NZ to respond in a clear way. Not sharing the threat and taking unilateral action is not the way the world works. Doesn't this response constitute a source of humiliation for Pakistan and disgusting?
Security is far more important than any match or series. However, the strange thing is that how come they felt their is security threat just before the match ? They should have not come to pakistan if they were not comfortable playing here. Also they now want to abandon the whole series without give explanation of who gave the news about the threat and all the details. I think there are many unanswered questions here.
