All the currencies you are used to using have a central database witch keeps track of which accounts have how many credits.
With Bitcoin everyone holds that database so that we can check incoming payments. But only you hold the keys to your credits.

Minethings.com is a browser-based MMO that I've been running for a couple years. A friend told me about bitcoins a couple weeks ago and now (after a weekend of coding) they are accepted at Minethings.com. The game is free to try out and in-game purchases are optional. A bit about the game: A real-time mining game based in a post-apocalyptic Earth where there are no rules and everyone's loot is up for grabs. Inter-city trading is all PvP so it requires arming up your vehicles and being prepared for the worst. But the rewards are worth it! Grow your first humble mining operation into an empire with equipment, mining robots, battery upgrades, and gadgets. Expand your operations to the high seas, build factories, earn interest on your wealth, dominate markets and climb the ranks to become the one with the most things. Start mining today! I play this game! It's fun even without buying credits, but now I might need to buy some for bitcoin.

Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Live solely off of bitcoins [Bounty of 400 BTC]

Room is likely taken, confirming tonight, not for bitcoin. How much could you get by with in NH?
Bare minimum? Figure $400 for room+util, could probably eat on $150/mo if you were selective, get by with no car if you are in a city or can get groceries with a roomie or whatever. I'm sure a few more expenses would crop up, but $1k/mo should make you not miserable. That's all guesses, I haven't been here long and haven't lived without my expensive family for a long time.

Heh, one could simply order pizza through a proxy buyer using BTC. Food problem solved.
Sure, and why not? That counts as "living off bitcoins", as far as my bounty is concerned. Ah, but it doesn't count for mpkomara's original bounty. Hell, even managing to pay some significant part of your monthly expenses in bitcoins would be an achievement. I wonder if I can convince my landlord to take some bitcoins.... I imagine you're in a contract, but I've got a room open immediately for a free stater who pays bitcoin.

I wonder how many bitcoins are just being shuffled back and forth.
Ultimately, isn't all currency just shuffled back and forth? But it is telling that $4xx,xxx in BTC only amounted to 12k in volume on mt gox. Yes, but usually we don't count me moving $300 from an atm to my pocket to my wife to the store as $900 worth of money movement like it could appear on the chain. Otoh real activity can also sometimes not be seen like if I ship 200BTC via mtgox in return for a used couch.

Even better, I just emailed Dale and sent him a bunch of links to Bitcoin related sites. Maybe he'll like it and then talk about it in a comic or on his blog?
Haha, that would be awesome.

depends on what you order, but usually about 10 bucks +- $5 per order =) And if actual shipping charges are less then estimated - I always will be glad to refund difference.
You can get estimate by adding something into cart and proceed to checkout. Enter you shipping address and it will show you price of ups ground shipping.
Payable in bitcoin at 2-1 I assume?

It's a really bad idea to try to get all of whatever people are using as money. How cool would it be if all dollars, paper and electronic, were teleported to me right now? Not cool at all; no one would have any and no one would use them as money anymore and I'd only get their use value, which is as uncomfortable toilet paper.
There is no incentive to get all the dollars or all the bitcoins. Some people talk like that, but I can absolutely guarantee you that when they get halfway there they'll be a lot more motivated to get enjoyable objects instead of more digits.
