1  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: How I Am Solo Mining Bitcoin on a Mac Using Bitcoin QT, cgminer & Antminer U2 on: June 04, 2016, 08:54:17 PM
Absolutely brilliant. Even for 2014 - I don't care. You solved a LOT of stuff I was lurching about in the dark over.

If anyone is still reading this thread ever - create pure text files on a Mac by using Terminal, and then VI (vi) the unix text editor. Pure text, with a steep learning curve because it's command-line stuff. :-)

but hey. Thanks for the brilliant article.

are you still mining by the way Huh?

Robert

Thanks for the kind words Robert! I'm glad the article was helpful.

I'm out of the mining game for now, but might jump back in with an S9 or two. I have to figure out where to put 'em. I'm guessing they're pretty loud.

Before dropping out of the game, I worked my way up to some S5s and was going at it around 4TH. While the machines still held some value, I sold the whole rig to recoup some of the cash investment.

All in all, I am very happy with how much I put in, how many coins I mined and all of that. And this recent spike in BTC price doesn't hurt a bit Smiley

Have fun everyone. These are exciting times for sure!

And if you're reading this, quick question, would you buy awesome small-batch beef jerky for bitcoin? I'm thinking about accepting it on my new site at DundalkDan.com. Let me know.

Thanks, Dan
2  Other / Obsolete (buying) / PURCHASED & DONE --> [WTB] 3 antMiner S5s on: April 24, 2015, 12:14:53 AM
I bought the 3 miners, so I'm all set (for now Smiley.

Good luck everyone!

Thanks, Dundalk Dan

-------------------------

I'm looking for 3 properly working antMiner S5s - preferably with a quieter fan setup than the stock. That's not necessary, but an added bonus I'm willing to pay a little more for.

I can pay via PayPal, or with BTC if preferred, and am happy to use escrow if necessary.

I live in Dundalk, MD 21222.

If you'd like to sell yours, please PM with with your price shipped to my location.

Thanks! Dundalk Dan

Hi everyone,

I run a small beef jerky business (http://www.DundalkDan.com) out of Baltimore, Maryland, USA and want to start accepting BTC on a large scale if there's an appetite for it here in the US. We only ship in the US for now.

To run a test, I've setup our Sweet BBQ Beef Jerky on BitPay to see if anyone want to try it.

http://www.dundalkdan.com/dundalk-dans-homemade-sweet-bbq-beef-jerky/

You'll see down at the bottom of the listing, we have a link to pay with BTC. We have 4 packs available (2.75oz/pack) for 0.087256 BTC (currently).

We take great pride in making the best beef jerky available. You have to try it to see what we're talking about. Here's a bit to give you an idea:

Inspired by our desire to give the boys a lunch treat to take to school, Dundalk Dan's Sweet BBQ beef jerky is the perfect high-protein snack for anyone who is looking for a tangy flavor on the go. This one rates 1 out of 5 on the heat meter.

Ingredients: Eye Round USDA Choice Beef, Sweet BBQ Sauce, Worchestershire Sauce, Cider Vinegar, Mesquite Seasoning, Honey, Crushed Onion, Garlic Powder, Sodium Nitrate/Nitrite (preservative)

How We Make It: Dundalk Dan's Beef Jerky is handmade by the Dawes Family (Stacey, Ben, Sam & Dan) in Dundalk, MD. We only use USDA Choice Round Beef or London Broil and hand trim it and marinade it for 2-3 days minimum. Let me know what you think!

Thanks, Dundalk Dan
4  Economy / Goods / Re: Homemade Small Batch BEEF JERKY for BTC! on: April 17, 2015, 04:28:20 PM
The foods looks delicious, but just for US. Then, I'll wait for Worldwide shipping(If it's possible) Grin

That's tricky for us as the shipping is just sooooo expensive. For it to make sense, someone will need too buy a couple of dozen packs which is unrealistic for most personal beef jerky lovers!

I'll keep you all posted though as we expand!

Thanks, Dan

6  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Looking to buy a decent miner, budget is $200 on: April 15, 2015, 12:15:02 PM
Hey guys! I'm looking for a decent mining setup that could pull about 500 GH/s. Unfortunately buying miners used on amazon and eBay don't include the power supply, and buying one would go too much over the budget of $200 USD. So, I'd like to ask the community if they've got an old asic, perhaps an S3 or an S4... Something self contained would be amazing, because I've never ran a dedicated miner. I have mind, though! I used to run a GPU instance on amazon for kicks, back when they made a few dollars. But I've been into bitcoin since 2011, so I'm well acquainted with it. Thanks for any considerations and offers!

Welcome to the game. Tons of fun, for sure.

I've got this franken-rig up on my local craigslist now - http://baltimore.craigslist.org/sys/4979698512.html

Basically it's an EVGA 1300W G2 PSU and 2 antMiner S1s and 1 antMiner S3. I had to do some shuffling due to circuits and such at my house and I have these leftover. About 800 GH for $225 and the PSU gives you upside to eventually power 2 antMiner S5s when the prices come down a bit more.

If you're interested, think I could get them packaged-up an shipped in your price range depending on where you live.

Either way, have fun it!

7  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Selling 2 Cointerra 1.6 TH/S miners on: April 07, 2015, 09:50:17 PM
Guys, I have 2 cointerra's for sale. I have bought them on an auction but can not get them to work properly. One does around 1 th/s and the other only 900 ghs. If any of you has use for them please let me know by private message and youc an buy them for very cheap.
Im new to mining and thats why I think you guys could maybe use them.

Regards,

FWIW a lot of these units lose one side due to the cooling system. There are posts about how to fix that if you're savvy like that.

Just a thought in case you wanted to salvage your initial investment.

Thanks, Dan
8  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] YOUR MINING GEAR! Spondoolies bitmain etc on: April 04, 2015, 08:18:32 PM
Looking for and sp31 for 1200 or s5 I will pay 425 shipped s4 I will pay 500 shipped

You can still buy the S5s direct from Bitmain for about $387 shipped to the US.

https://bitmaintech.com/product.htm

I've purchased direct from them and shipping was fast, quality was great, etc. I'd recommend them. Plus, once you do that, they offer coupons on gear from time to time.
9  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Two Antminer S3 miners (US only) on: March 23, 2015, 02:15:39 AM
I might be mistaken, but I think that was his point.  If he can buy two S3's and a RM750 PSU off ebay for $247 shipped the asking price of $250 shipped for just the two units on here is definitely higher than what people on this forum is willing to pay.  The OP may want to try ebay for the prices that he's asking.

That was exactly my point, thank you.

I got a whole rig, ready to go, shipped to my house across the whole country (NV to MD) for less than the asking price of two S3s.

On here, where the people who know play, I'd expect much lower prices than on eBay. One senior member here is selling S2s for $100 or so plus shipping. He seems to know what it's going to take to move units and takes into account the power suck, etc.

We're all in a wicked game right now. What do you even do with S1s?

All that said, I love it. Good luck with your systems!

Thanks, TDM
10  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Two Antminer S3 miners (US only) on: March 22, 2015, 11:53:47 PM
Same here...I could fit two S3's into my farm but I am in a better position to ROI than most and this is +150 days even for me.

People don't buy stuff with no chance of breaking even anymore!

To provide a data point for folks, last week I bought two Antminer S3s and a Corsair RM 750 off eBay shipped across the US (3 days) for $247.

I realize the ROI is tough to hit, but it's a hobby and I'm in the long haul with this stuff.

FWIW, love the machines! They've been a hair shy of 440 but super consistent there.

Longing for an S5 or two.

Happy mining everyone  Smiley

Thanks, TDM
11  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] Cointerra Terraminer IV (1/2 speed) & Coin Craft Miners on: November 01, 2014, 06:18:59 PM
Hi gang,

I've got a couple of boxes I'm letting go cheap. The Terraminer IV lost it's water cooling on a board keeping it from hashing. It's visible to the controller, but needs to be repaired. The other half works great.

The Coin Craft works like a charm, although I had to add another PSU to split the boards for stability. It's kind of a Frankenstein, but delivers.

$375 pickup in Dundalk, MD.

More details are on our local Craigslist.

12  Economy / Computer hardware / [WTS] Cointerra Terraminer IV at Half Power on: October 13, 2014, 04:45:37 PM
Hello,

I have a Cointerra Terraminer IV that is only operating at half-power. It looks like the pump went out on one of the boards, so it doesn't hash to keep it from overheating. The other hashes along nicely at 800 or so, no problem.

I've never opened the machine and have the original packaging, etc. I got it new in April of this year and it hashed along steadily until this happened.

Anyone interested in taking this off my hands? Make me an offer. I can accept PayPal or BTC.

I'm in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

Thanks, Dan

Hi and thank you for the guide. Did you succeed to find any block yet?

thanx ;-)

I haven't found any block solo mining yet, but I'll keep trying.

I did find one on BTC Guild in the pooled environment though. Pretty cool conceptually, but finding the block in that pool doesn't reap any greater rewards.

All in all, I'm having a ball with this stuff!

Anybody else got a low payout on block #22106? I'm at 50% of my normal payout...

Good catch. I see the exact same thing. I'm interested in knowing more though, for sure.

Did someone come on with mega-hasher or something?

Thanks, TDM
15  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [8500 TH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees+NMC, Stratum, VarDiff, Private Servers on: May 10, 2014, 05:52:06 PM
I'm pretty new to this and just had my first experience with a significant outage impacting my miners.

I've got two Antminer S1s chugging away non-stop (usually) on Slush's Pool. I don't hop, etc. Best case for me is for the machines to just do their thing.

Last night though, my internet connection crapped-out and I was out for 14 hours. Now that I'm back up, my statistics show four blocks that my miners worked on, that now show "none" for Your Shares and Your Reward. There are confirmations being churned-out, but nothing for me.

Is this part of the pool hopping policy?

Being someone that doesn't hop (I dedicate miners to Slush and BTC Guild), seems like BS that I'm being dinged like this.

Thanks, Dan
16  Economy / Goods / Re: Homemade Small-Batch Beef Jerky & We Accept Bitcoins! on: May 08, 2014, 05:56:20 PM
I just got into mining and was inspired by the Bees Brothers and their small business accepting Bitcoins, so I'm following suit with my little family's homemade beef jerky business. We make small-batch (12 packs or so per batch) homemade beef jerky. It started out as friends and family, then took off a bit to a regular thing.

You can see our regular site at http://www.DundalkDan.com.

I just setup a product using BitPay so people can purchase our popular and highly-rated Dundalk Dan's Sweet BBQ beef jerky.

17  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Help! Please. Lost IP Address/Access on Coin Craft 1TH. on: May 01, 2014, 08:29:29 PM
Have you emailed the manufacturer on how to reset the machine? I would do that first cos the manufacturer knows best and they should modify their UI to reject invalid IPs too.

Look inside the machine. Is there a jumper or switch inside labeled reset? Or some sort of battery? I hope there is a reset switch somewhere inside.

This a tool to find IP from mac address:
http://www.youngzsoft.net/cc-get-mac-address/

Yep. Yep. It's the Chinese Labour Day holiday for the next few days. Figures right? I hope to get this fixed before then. I see a bunch of these machines out there now, so maybe someone has had a similar issue before.

I did look all over the control board for a reset and haven't found anything marked as such. There's the control board from lketc.com and a Raspberry Pi attached to it. No battery either. All good thoughts though.

That tool is to find the MAC address from the IP address. That's not the problem. I need the IP address and I can get the MAC address from Wireshark with a direct connection.

Thanks for the effort though. Greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dan
18  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Help! Please. Lost IP Address/Access on Coin Craft 1TH. on: May 01, 2014, 07:57:57 PM
Use an IP Scanner and set a large range on your network.  Should be able to locate the renegade IP this way if its on your network.

I appreciate that tip, but it didn't work. I tried Wireshark with wifi off and just the machine connected. Started listening, powered the device on, and there's all kinds of traffic, but no IP. I can get the MAC but from what I've read, you can't (or it's really difficult) to go MAC to IP. The other way around is a protocol but doesn't help me out.

I'm thinking that because I jacked the .458 last three, that it's somehow "out of the normal range" and doesn't show up. Or maybe it took another IP address as default. I tried a ton of those.

If the LED display worked on the machine, I bet I'd have something there.

Thanks for the thought though. Much appreciated.

Thanks, Dan
19  Bitcoin / Hardware / Help! Please. Lost IP Address/Access on Coin Craft 1TH. on: May 01, 2014, 07:46:46 PM
Hi gang,

So I'm really hoping one of you pros can help me out on this one. I looked around the board and didn't see anything on this particular case, but if I missed it, just point me in the right direction please.

Let me lay the groundwork to give you plenty of ammo to light me up Smiley

First off, I tried to save a few hundred bucks by buying direct out of Hong Kong. I settled on a "reputable" company with a history in the space, and purchased a Coin Craft right that's supposed to run at 1TH.

The unit arrived DOA. After much back and forth, they said they'd make it up to me on MY NEXT ORDER! I guess that they didn't get that it was DOA. Not only that, it had been run for at least some time as it was dust filled -- on the fans, in the case, etc.

So I rolled-up my sleeves to try to make some lemonade, right? I took it apart and started testing. I got it narrowed down to a bad PSU (Cougar GX 1050 - must have been run hard before 'cause they're good from what I understand) and a bad Raspberry Pi and a bad LED that doesn't work. Trifecta, right? Ugh.

I got that taken care of with a NewEgg order (sans LED as that's part of the controller board) and was off to the races -- or so I thought.

I plugged-in my Mac via Ethernet and adjusted the network config to get on the same 1st segment (wifi off) and then navigated to 192.168.1.10 in my browser. I was in! This was huge as just a few days before I was out serious cash.

So I tried to setup my Slush's Pool connection and couldn't get it to connect. I thought it must be cause I'm trying to rig this thing to mine through a wifi at work as we don't have hard line ethernet available. So I changed the IP address (gasp!) in the web browser interface to the miner to 172.20.1.458. Those of you who know, just choked. I didn't, and here's where my trouble begins.

So I know now that you can't have that last three digits above .255. That's just the way IP addresses work. But the web browser took the settings and immediately cut off my access. Boom. Gone.

So I thought I'd just navigate to the "bad" IP address and get it back to an acceptable range, but I cannot get my Mac to see the machine when hard wired in to save my life.

The "documentation" that came with this thing is a complete joke. It literally looks like a two page email.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this thing back online?

1. Is there a factory reset I can do? And how.

2. Can I access and configure the machine through the Raspberry Pi's USB slot? I've never had one before and had to order a male-male USB cable?

3. Is there a way I can confirm the IP address of the machine? I think it's what I set it to, but as bad a luck as I've had so far, I could have typo-ed that puppy too!

4. Anything I'm not thinking of?

I just need to get back to the web interface and I think I can figure out the rest. ha Smiley

Why I thought it'd be a straight-up process this way is beyond me. I don't think I'll be dipping my toe in that water again.

If anyone has any ideas on how to get me out of this muck, I'd be more than appreciative. Heck, I'll send you some awesome homemade beef jerky if you're in the states. Int'l is so expensive to ship.

Thanks, Dan
20  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [850 TH] Slush's Pool (mining.bitcoin.cz); TX FEES + VarDiff on: April 24, 2014, 02:34:37 PM
Pool numbers are looking strange.  My 600G was estimated around .01...... And it's presently around .0005.  What happened?

My shares are stuck at a very low number.... maybe thats it?

Anyone working on this?  Don't want to pull my miners, but these numbers are waayyyyyy off.

Mine was way off as well and it is sorted out now.

Mine looks accurate too. Good all around.

Did anyone notice the increase in hashing power in the last day? It's currently at 1484738.175 Ghash/s and was hovering around 143/144.

Do miners see the upward trend we had the last two days then rush-in? Or is that pretty consistent with the normal hash increases?

I'm obviously new to this and just picking-up on it, but it seemed like a bigger jump in a day or so than usual.

Thanks, TDM
