Is that rise related with upcoming swap to symbol? Btw any news about release time for SYM and swap?

Thanks

Based on the current road-map shown on: https://forum.nem.io/t/symbol-launch-reporting-single-source-of-information/24863

The snapshot will take place at some point between end of October to the end of November 2020.  Opt-in is around the same time.

According to the road-map Symbol launch is taking place on November 30th 2020.

Jeff McDonald is the co-founder of the NEM Foundation. Jeff was one of the first members of the NEM community and has helped build the NEM project to where it is today. NEM is preparing for the launch of Symbol (codename Catapult), the second generation of the NEM blockchain.

Jeff McDonald shares recollections of the NEM journey to date. NEM was one of the earliest enterprise blockchains and began life as a thread on the BitcoinTalk forums before growing into a top 5 market cap asset with NEM communities all over the globe. Symbol (codename Catapult) represents a full rewrite of the NEM protocol. NEM core dev Jaguar recently published an update that unifies the governance plans for all NEM ecosystem entities to support one goal - the launch of Symbol later in 2020.

Podcast link:

https://bravenewcoin.com/insights/podcasts/nem-2-0-launch-the-catapult-symbol-is-coming?ct=t(wa-launch-zeitgeist-130520)

Key takeaway:

In building Symbol, Jeff says NEM have applied all the learning that comes from running version 1 of their blockchain in production for four years. Symbol is a more performant, scalable and feature-rich protocol as a result. It will become the core NEM engine, powering both private and public blockchains. Jeff says the 3 other blockchain projects that he sees as the most formidable competitors are Libra, Hyperledger and Ethereum.

NEM Community Reinvigoration Strategy

With Japanese and Chinese Translations:

https://forum.nem.io/t/nem-ecosystem-community-reinvigoration-strategy/24913

Summary

NEM has a good community base, however it has in the past had a better one. There is room for improvement. XEM is still one of the largest cap digital assets in the world (top 30 of ~2200), top 10 for Q1 2020 in market cap growth. The community that supports it should reflect that and be part of working to improve the above, and more importantly adoption in general.

There is work to do to heal past rifts and to attract new members to NEM. The time leading up to Symbol launch in late 2020 is a perfect time to spend time as a community resolving these issues to ensure the launch goes well and the project is well supported beyond launch.

This is a suggestion for how we can approach the challenge and is intended to generate healthy discussion on how to move forward. The paper deliberately maintains a forward focus, we cannot change the past and will not attempt to, we can only focus on what is to come.

Announcement from Iain Wilson

CFO NEM Group

https://forum.nem.io/t/nem-ecosystem-funding/24911

NEM Ecosystem Funding

"We recently announced the formation of a single common governance framework for the NEM entities called the NEM Group (NGL). We would like to be as open as we can be around the use of funds and therefore would like to share that the NEM Group Trust has received a transfer of 394.151m XEM from Core Funds into this wallet. This amount comprises consolidated funding for ALL of the NEM entities and has been approved by Core. The wallet is overseen by signatories who are separate from the operational elements of the ecosystem and include legal trustees, a long time community member as an enforcer and members of the core team.

In the first year funds will be prioritised to:

Formalising and organising the software development, consulting and treasury management capabilities to be both more efficient and operationally effective.

Supporting and enabling the launch of Symbol as per the Public Launch Plan. This will include deepening relationships with exchanges and payment networks to ensure broad access and integration of our token.

Supporting a new community engagement plan designed to give both existing and new members opportunities to get more involved in both Symbol’s launch and it’s future development.

The funds remain in the Trust until a business plan and budget have been approved by the NEM Group board. All subsidiaries funding requirements are subject to scrutiny and approval by the NEM Group. All subsidiaries accounts are monitored and managed by the NGL finance team.

Whilst Crypto markets are inherently volatile we will seek to actively reduce the risk for NEM as well as give Symbol the best possible chance for wider adoption".

If price is low, it's the lower scale miners that would likely be the ones liquidating or shutting off their equipment.  Larger scale operations can absorb the costs.  There's also the difficulty decrease to take into consideration as well, as it will making mining more profitable.  It will balance itself out.

Thanks ormin, always a pleasure to look at your analysis.  Smiley

With the BTC halving coming up around May 12th this year, the market sentiment is generally positive.

48  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bloomberg report Bull run on: April 29, 2020, 11:18:32 AM
But if the reward for miners is 6.25 BTC per block after the halving, surely their opex, capex production costs (electricity, hardware etc) are the same, and they're not going to sell their mined BTC at the same price? Long term this can't be sustainable and will lead to price increase, not immediately, but over several months.

History doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes...

The general retail market will probably ONLY buy bitcoin if they see it break the ATH.
-snip-

That's what happened after BTC broke the 2013 ATH in early 2017.

The second halving was around July 2016, followed by ATH being tested and breaking consistently over a few months time-frame during early 2017.

If the previous 2017 ATH breaks in early 2021 followed by consistent higher highs and higher lows, this will highly likely lead to another ATH towards the end of 2021.

 Covid-19 May Give Libra Life, Spur Fed's Digital Currency Spirit

"This year marks a key test for Bitcoin's transition toward a
quasi-currency like gold, and we expect it to pass. Unlike the
stock-market reset but similar to gold's, Bitcoin had its

global monetary stimulus and increasing adoption".

Helo. I'm new to NEM and need advice - is it worth it to buy now, what is the future in NEM? right now I have only 4K.

In crypto generally the market is low, market confidence is low due to coronavirus, margin calls, people were selling to liquidate. There are small signs that things are picking up. Stock markets rising slowly, OPEC+ have made agreement to cut production. Bitcoin halving in May 2020, after effects of that long term will be increase in price for majority of crypto. Symbol launch roadmap will also be launched imminently. All these factors point to a long term increase in price, but as always do your own research, not investment advice. The market is cyclical.

I am happy with NEM it works well!

I think the NEM foundations issue was they were NOT greedy. I said so at the time.

They could have cashed out in 2017/2018 and set the whole thing up quite well for decades.

Hate to break it to you, but a lot of them did cash out at the peak while telling everyone else to "hodl for Catapult".

No new wallets for years and a lot of lies involving dates / releases.

There's a reason why so many of the original developers left at that time.

NEM started as a scam and will die out as the scam that it is.

Really?

I can still see the original Dev stakes on the block explorers:

https://explorer.nemtool.com/#/accountlist
https://nemnodes.org/richlist/

Which concludes that your posts are nothing but FUD, lies and trolling.

TxIDs Or It Didn't Happen

I *think* of rich list of NEM holders, the bulk is still sat there never moved.

I do recall imploring the NEM fund to divest itself of quite a chunk at the peak, to hedge for long term dev, and they refused.

They were not greedy and they refused to make a quick $$$

They focus on the technology, not on the price and are not motivated by greed.

Now the wheat will get sorted from the chaff in the crypto market. The hyped will go down, and the chains with the real value will go up.

Looks like ProximaX will be a major competitor to the now delayed for 1500 time "Catapult or Symbol or ..."

A lot of disillusioned NEM users are starting to appear in ProximaX community.

If you're investing long term, XPX isn't in a better position.  It has just a few exchanges available, and very low volume. and has dropped to an all time low.  There's probably some "private sale" investors who got to buy them cheap before launch, who might be p**ed right now.

I sense you probably hodl ed too long after the Jan 2018 peak and then got impatient during the bear market and sold at the bottom, now you have none left you're FUDing the forum.
