Also, do you guys realize SuchPool.pw is located in Montreal?  Has anyone reached out to fellow Quebecers and asked for suggestions?

Yes Suchpool are Quebecers. I chatted with them briefly in May and they did not seem too excited or inspired by Quebecoin. They run QBC on their pool for profit/BTC and not because they loved the idea – and there’s nothing wrong with that. They looked like a group of fun folks.

Why not contact the city and see if they can work out a deal with certain bicycle rental places where they can pay in Quebecoin for the day and get bicycles to ride around the city?!  If we can't find way of doing this, I think we only have ourselves to blame for the lack of creativity guys.  Why not reach out to Solstice Music Festival (I think thats what it is called).  Its a big rave that happens every July in Quebec.

We don't have the tool/services in place to even "spend" QBC right now. We're truly like Bitcoin back in 2010 when it was barely known. And we see other crypto-projects/coins evolve around us fucking fast… QBC isn't a coins that can innovate at that speed. Like Snowcrawl said, we don't have the resource required for that... how many developepr will be excited to work on QBC with no promises of a reward that can feed their familly? A very few. Some did already, but  they can't be doing this for ever, they're hungry too you know...

Hope I'm not coming out as a downer lol. Just thinking to myself that there's so much to do, yet so little "spare" time.

Where is the lady who took this project over after that Gagnon guy?  Why has she left the ship?

I can't speak personally for M-L Richard, but I did notice that she has since become involved in the start up of a Montreal based bitcoin investment fund called Cryptomen.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=811602.0

That project appears to have the potential to be lucrative, whereas Quebecoin, for the moment, would require some serious leg work to become anything substantial.  I would imagine she will return once a new development comes that will put Quebecoin on people's radar.

I used to exchange e-mail with ML-R every now and then about QBC related stuff. Now she seems extremely busy with her current project so much it looks like she almost forgot about QBC - Ever since she got going on cryptomen lol. That's allright said it before - people will come and go. Some will stick around more thant other. Some will never come etc etc (so much philosophical)

Cryptomen (the service) is setting it's nest up in a huge niche, which HUGE potential. If they manage to pull it off and remain true to their goals, it'll be crazy.

Anyway,

I look at Quebecoins as if it was a share in, not a company, but a very long term project. The amount of QBC being slowly mined, shared, accumulated will remain de same possibly for the next HUNDREDS of years. My only hopes are that QBC be distributed MOSTLY to the population of Quebecers, and then to anyone else who shows or showed interest about it and us. I'm personally collecting considerable amount of QBC with that VERY goal in mind - but I'm not thinking in days, weeks, or even months - I'm thinking in years. :O Cryptocurrencies are freaking new, we'll see a Bitcoin 2.0, we'll see new things we never even thought would be possible, we never imagined. QBC can be anything, but the 21 million share will remain

I agree that a roadmap would be cool. But let’s call it a wish list and not be too hard on the deadlines.  Wink

In another news, as I’ve stated on the French Webpages today… I’m likely to be slowly learning and practicing PowerShell scripting. This might be of good use in the future. For my personal pet project, I’m thinking about trying to make a QBC mining calculator. Sounds so stupid simple, but it took me 1h15 yesterday to get a little form up with two buttons, one that spits the mining difficulty, and one that closes the form. Rofl

Oh also; hello and welcome the the few new entheusiast haha. I'm actually surprised new folks are showing up without anything big happening. Grin

I need to know at what block the hard fork happened so i can update our quebecoin pool

I thought this was some sort of confirmation you guys updated: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=708702.msg8011543#msg8011543

Looks likes the pre-mine lock-down kicked in at block 15242? https://github.com/morinpa/QBC/commit/7958693ed6433191ea04ee479ff6ac7669788d1b

I like the low difficulty as well and now that the scam is over, we have a coin we can believe in and know is honest.  I won't be in Quebec for at least two years, so I can't do much locally, so we need help from residents.  Do we know of any merchants who are in talks with devs (are devs still here?)?

There is no official "dev" for QBC right now. Morinpa worked on the hard fork, but he's not an actual C++ developer AFAIK. Just an IT enthusiast like many of us, but a good one at that! He has done most of the work for a lot of things. Notably the implementation and testing of the hard fork itself, but also the new block-explorer @ http://explorateur-qbc.circonference.ca/ and he started to look into the android wallet.

ML Richard (Circonference) also spent quite a lot of time on this, and then so did GHonyme. But as far as QBC's value went thus far, everyone literally did this voluntarily - at a loss. Yet we're all still kicking around cryptoz! Sure most of us aren’t posting as actively as before, I can assure you no one forgot about QBC and that were going to remain interested in this project for the years to come. So we can only slightly grow from here on.

Is there a way of closing the original ANN since it contains mis-information such as "being listed on Bittrex Exchange", which we aren't anymore because of low trade volume.
Not sure about this, but I don't mind the original thread. I think it'll be a great little historical archive in the big crypto-experiment of our time.

Two things on my mind lately:
  • We need a QBC mining calculator. There's no quick and easy way to calculate it anymore
  • Ideas/brainstorm on how/if we could air-drop QBC cost effectively.
384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Cryptomen.com | Official CryptoFund Launch Thread | on: October 16, 2014, 04:29:30 PM
There hasn’t been much discussion about this since the launch. I’m kind of surprised both way; not much trolls trying to bring you down and not a lot of interest being shown publicly. I have a feeling you’re going to have to “prove what you can do” before people trust you.

This could take years to turn up. Are you going to be able to remain relevant, interested and on the ball for so long, if that was to be the case?

My opinion is that you’ll have hard time attracting new speculator until you go through a few round, proving that you’re honest and transparent. But even then, only a small amount of people will dare let you manage their Bitcoin, since most bitcoiners aren’t kidding with their private key. I’ve placed a decent amount of “can afford to lose” money in this service, and I must admit I've been tempted to put some of the “would rather not lose” money in as well. But even with the trust I have in some of the member in this team, I just can’t – too risky and uncertain the moment I no longer am responsible of my BTC. The moment I have someone other than myself to blame if mistake happens.

Do you think we’ll someday have a system/service where one can let you manage their portfolio, but in a safer - easier to trust - way?
385  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][QBC] Québecoin - X11 - DGW - (BITTREX) - Win/Mac/Linux Wallets - New on: October 11, 2014, 06:54:18 PM
I've got some feedback to the dev:

Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. AMD FX-8150, 24GB Ram

The new wallet stops after a while while loading the blocks, with an assertion error. Clicking ignore makes it continue, then stop again somewhat later. i think it was about 23 and then about 20 weeks left of blockchain loading.

I downloaded the wallet that identifies itself as quebecoin version v0.8.6.0-beta, listed on the original post.

The new wallet also did not start connecting by itself, i had to use the conf file contents from the original post.

Ah - i just discovered the new thread. Don't use the wallet here, use the one at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=708702.40

problem fixed, new wallet works just fine it seems.

Welcome aboard pinballdude.

Quebecoin is totally unknown now. There's about a dozen of people still interested in it. Mining continues no matter what.
386  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Cryptomen.com | Official CryptoFund Launch Thread | on: October 07, 2014, 11:02:01 AM
I can but only vouch for ML Richard (circonference). She's freaking resourceful and honest (as far as I could tell).

I personally offered her to take care of my portfolio and make a cut on the profits back in July. That's when she told me she was developing something that aimed exactly at this, with some partners. And that's how I ended up with a few BTC in Cryptomen. I took a small step back from crypto ever since. More time spent doing other things rather than hunting the next great coins.

If Cryptomen are successful in what they're trying to do, it'll be quite rewarding to be part of it.

Eager to see how this develop! Nice to see you guys slowly evolve and enhance your services and features.

I said it before; I can totally see that there's a niche for what you're hoping to achieve! And I really wish you well cause I know some of you totally deserve  it.

I'm in for 0.50BTC for this new service. May CF01 pave the way for CF02.
388  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][QBC] Quebecoin - X11 DGW - Forked! New Mac/Win/Linux Wallets! on: September 24, 2014, 08:58:03 PM
Valkir,

Y faut rester honnête - personne peux promettre #2.

De 0.0001$ at 0.43$...

You we're the top google search results for X11 mining calc for a while (in my case).

Is this the calm before the crypto storm?

QBC's monthly value is super stable.

Who ever sold 100k QBC at $0.0050 / $0.0030 around august 5th.... nice move. I mean as long as you are buying back at a lower price (0.0030/0.0017). Grin

I haven't paid much attention to crypto lately. Been working on my dirt-bike, riding and working around the house. Winter is coming, enjoying the last bit of nice weather. I have a feeling I am not the only one that's distracted.

In one of my facebook groups, Francophonie Québec (https://www.facebook.com/groups/francophonie.quebec/), I have set up a Québecoin address and declared it the property of all the members of the group.  I had stated to them that I wanted to occasionally hold contests in which I might give away something like an emailable $10 Itunes gift card to a random member who likes the contest thread, something that they could then use to buy francophone music.  Since that seems to be the preferred venue for Quebecois artists to sell their music online these days.  Perhaps someone here would be willing to sell me the Itunes gift card for Québecoins.

Lot's of good idea. Next time you post something or do some give away on the group, cross-post it to Quebeco.in, I'll add my share to the tipping.

Obviously feel free to offer them to visit Quebeco.in, even thought I'm worried members  of a "francophonie" group will shoot them selves after reading 1 or 2 of my terrible post filled with bad grammar and structure lol.

I too have an address specifically for the Quebeco.in community, but I'm not sure if I should advertise it. And I'm still not sure how I will proceed to share the QBC it contains, but I have a few ideas and I am waiting to see how things develops. We've got a few years a head of us Smiley

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in initiating the very first charitable donation involving Québecoin? I will donate $20 to a Québecois charity or cause of your choice in exchange for the current equivalent value in Québecoins.

Pretty nice initiative, I'm willing to add 1k as well.

http://crypto.fiatlux.tk/quebecoin

That's Biguenique's website. I had a few e-mail with him and Rhead back before the fork.

Regarding search optimization, maybe @Same same can give us some tips.  Grin

So I believe that we at least have a starting point to build upon.

Indeed. Now it's all about slow progress. It'll take time but I have no doubt the community will grow slowly. People will come and go, some will stick around more actively than others - and this is all right. We have years a head of us to try things and experiment. Just a matter of time till more Quebecers hear about cryptos and hopefully they'll come cross QBC. I'll be there, ready to share some!

I am noticing a very large buy order for quebecoin right now on bittrex.  Someone wishing to pick up just under 40,000 QBC.  At the moment it would be difficult to put that many coins together.

The first and larger bid was mine; the second was someone else's. We later got into a footsie race as we each raised our bids by tiny bits. As of now, I'm out of the market after finally throwing in the proverbial towel and buying the rest of my haunch at the ask.

So, my IPO-stake of 40,875 QBC is now a little less than 90,500 QBC. Call me when it hits 10,000 satoshis.  Tongue

hehe. Come say hello every now and then Cheesy

Throw a 200$ buy wall at the right satoshi and it becomes profitable for people to mine QBC for a few days Cheesy.

If someone wants to buy something with QBC there is this post https://m.facebook.com/MonTrocMonHistoire

It could be a good idea to be present at one step in this story Smiley

I think that at the moment  the key would be to offer up something with more universal appeal.  Such as gift cards.  I made an offer to do this a few days after the initial release, but it was still too early for anyone to want to think that far ahead.  The seller would need to be willing to take a loss, since the value of Quebecoin isn't stable at this point.  It is going to be a long shot to be able to sell something for Quebecoin that is specialized like a tool or books by a specific author, when meanwhile the few people who are holding quebecoins are probably interested in something completely diferent.

But remember that really, anything can be bought / sold for QBC. Only need the receiver to be interested about it. Some folks paid 10,000 Bitcoins for a pizza not so long ago lol.
