The intelligence trap: The more stupid you are, the less surveilled you will be.

But yes, I get your point, the people who are stupid and accepting of all this bullshit will be less likely to get into trouble than those of us who aren't.

The original version with 'stupider' was acceptable. Roll Eyes

Russian astroturfers will be notably absent from this discussion, I'm sure. Either that, or they will take the tack of "Putin was justified in saving the threatened Russian Ukranians," nothing of "these aren't Russian soldiers, they're Ukranian freedom fighters!"

Don't you mean cosmoturfers? Grin
143  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Putin Critic Shot Dead at Kremlin on: March 08, 2015, 01:50:19 PM
some people are bad, they have to die, otherwise they hurt good people.

Attitudes such as yours, are the real reason why westerners may appear "prejudiced" against Russia. But it's not prejudice. You incriminate yourselves with your own words, and then ignorantly wonder why Russia does not have respect.

Who judges good and bad?

If the dead guy did something "bad", then why wasn't he taken into custody and tried in a court of law? These social customs in the form of courts, judges, jury and so forth have evolved over thousands of years, whereas killing is something that primitive animals do.

Do Russians really want to be seen as primitive animals?

And what's this obsession about death? Everybody dies eventually, even without Russian assistance. Where did that "they have to die" crap come from? If they don't teach it in Russian schools, then where did you get it?

You're an embarrassment to humanity.
144  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is it true that strong "social connections" are required for happiness? on: March 08, 2015, 01:12:17 PM
I just saw a PBS show about emotional health that claims "social connections" are required for happiness. Do you believe this is true? ...or
Perhaps it is propaganda to undermine the happiness of independent people who don't always require the "emotional support" of others?

What do you think?
Is it true that strong "social connections" are required for happiness?

Maybe. But when do we need them? Is it something like water or vitamin d that I have to periodically top-up on?

I just saw a PBS show about emotional health that claims "social connections" are required for happiness. Do you believe this is true?
Yes, though it's not a matter of belief, this is science. Human beings are primates, we are social creatures. We need strong social bonds for our health and happiness.

All experimental results must first pass through the scientist's squishy pink spectacles, before he interprets them and writes down what he truly believes that his scientific findings were. Wink

I don't give a shit about some other country that is not the topic of discussion here. The topic is Russia, not America or their shit.

146  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Putin Critic Shot Dead at Kremlin on: March 06, 2015, 11:41:11 PM
Putin is a dictator at the level of north korean and venezuelan and cuban nutjobs. He needs to get stopped. At least the critic was enjoying the highest quality pussy judging by his "girlfriend".

And your assertion that Putin is a dictator is based on what exactly?

When political opponents get killed, that is strong evidence that the system is a dictatorship/ highly authoritarian, as mentioned above. The details -- whether or not Putin or one of his subordinates gave the order -- are irrelevant. The important point is that the uncivilised environment (as demonstrated by the murderous activity near the Kremlin) is not conducive to running a country in a way that upholds advanced social and cultural values.

Quote
Because Obama told you to think so? He needs to be stopped? Stopped doing what? Rebuilding Russia?
What makes you believe that Putin has helped rather than hindered Russia's "rebuilding"?
With so many natural resources, over 100 million people, and plenty of entrepreneurs wanting to profit, it's quite conceivable that a chimpanzee would do a better job as president than Putin. The chimpanzee would simply be an entertaining distraction that makes regular appearances on state television, and shakes hands with foreign leaders, while Russia is rapidly rebuilt into a Laissez faire Libertarian utopia.

Not another one...

All I see is constant demonisation of Ukraine. Please explain what part of the Russian Federation has Ukraine invaded recently.

"Politicians and the media are using Vladimir Putin and Ukraine to justify military expansionism. It’s dangerous folly"

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/mar/04/demonisation-russia-risks-paving-way-for-war

I think this could have been posted in one of the many other Russia vs the west threads...
I think Ukraine is desparate for war. Russia is desparate not to have Nato troops walking around next to their borders.
Roll Eyes
There seem to be lots of Russian troops "volunteer mercenaries" and various other idiots receiving lots of Russian money and weapons to fight for independence on Ukrainian soil, but where are all the Ukrainian troops attacking Russian Federation soil?? Huh Roll Eyes

I always thought of Nemtsov as a stud, his face and smile had been ever betraying his thoughts and intentions. I absolutely like such photos. They speak louder than words.

And that one looks photoshopped -- where is the shadow cast by the bra strap?? Or the outline of the fingers? It looks like some artist just drew red and white stripes on top of his hand.

You guys are desperate to beLIEve.

By the way, did you know that the Sandy Hook shooting was actually caused by Right Wing Russians? The official US story is clearly just a cover-up, and there actually millions of FSB agents, assassins and other Russian baddies infiltrating the US this very minute!

Quote from: Supreme Court of the United States. MIT Student Association for Freedom of Expression. 16 Feb. 235. link=http://www.mit.edu/activities/safe/cases/umich-baker-story/Baker/legal/obscenity.html
Supreme Court Obscenity Definition

1) A thing must be prurient in nature

2) A thing must be completely devoid of scientific, political, educational, or social value

3) A thing must violate the local community standards

If it meets all three of these things, it is obscenity.

Yes, “yoga pants” are, by the definition of “obscenity” provided by the U.S. supreme court, “obscenity,” for “yoga paints” facilitate erotic arrousal, do not contribute anything significant to substantive “scientific, political, educational, or social” (United States) discourse and, as indicated in the opinion of the politician mentioned by the OP, constitute a “violat[ion] [of] the local community standards” (United States) of the U.S. subunit of “Michigan.”

Nice work with the creative interpretation!

"completely devoid of..." = "do not contribute anything significant"

Ignoring the obvious fact that it's a fashion trend, and widely available in shops that only sell mass-produced stuff from China, which therefore fits under both "social value" and meeting "community standards".

I wonder if this is supposed to somehow derail.... Is that politician an Arab by any chance?? He likes his wives all covered-up, does he? What is he doing in Montana? Grin

Other than Balthazar, I don't think there is any Russian / Ukrainian citizen active here. Most of the former-USSR users are not comfortable in English, and therefore they might be more inclined to discuss this issue in the Russian language forums.
I think that from 300 millions inhabitants of the former USSR we can found enough people who are good in english

There was more discussion about a year ago, when the Russians suddenly started a lot of threads about Ukraine. But since then, they've alienated everyone else with their Russian bigotry, racism, sexism, xenophobia, historical revisionism, and their aggressive insistence that the "Russian media is correct, and everyone else is wrong".

It's fucking annoying. It would be understandable if they at least behaved like normal people and occasionally altered their views in light of new information, and acknowledged when they made a mistake. But that never happens! They only come here to preach and spread propaganda.

As far as I remember, there was much debate about who shot down the Malaysian flight MH17 back then, right? So, you can now show us the official report with a conclusion that states it was the militia who had shot down the plane, can't you? Roll Eyes

You may want to speak facts... Cool
Looks like you're asking clown to be serious... Facts and blablahblah are incompatible by definition.

How about, you and Deisik, rigorously explain what "fact" means, and post it here. Do not use a dictionary definition. Nemo can also help you. He seems to have a lot of time.

Tell everyone how you can know any facts about Ukraine, even though you are sitting comfortably at your computers, probably 1000s of km and several time-zones away from the fighting.

Part 2, explain the word "belief", and tell us why it does not apply to your superior knowledge about Ukraine.
152  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why Arming the Ukrainians is a Bad Idea on: February 05, 2015, 10:46:15 AM
i believe the only solution is after consulting with nato etc, we secretly propose an economic blockade of russia..let them annex the crimea and land to the russian border , sign a peace agreement and again put things back in order..
or, the US and all Nato countries blockade Russia by refusing to do business with Russia and ANY COUNTRY which imports or exports to russia. No banking, no oil, no food, nothing..this means telling every country at a specific time, , you do business with russia, you end all business with us..
they would quickly settle in private and we would save men and resources

Sounds dangerous. They will become even more isolated, and their thoughts and opinions even more inbred. I think it's important to keep engaging in dialogue, even if the Russians appear to be idiots.

Fake bread (Wonderbread(tm) and related methods) monopolising the market. It looks like bread, but is about as "nutritious" as burnt flour, and has a very high GI (bad for blood sugar levels) because the starch and sugars have not been processed for several hours by yeast or natural bacteria as with traditional recipes.

Fake butter. They feed dairy cows with left-over grain, instead of grass, so the milk does not contain the right amounts of vitamin K and D. And now some researchers say that, contrary to the old wives tales, milk does not strengthen bones. I wonder why.

Even more fake butter. They perform multiple extractions or separate the oils into different grades, using lighter oils for more premium products or where they want cream to be completely runny so that it doesn't clog up the machinery. And the left-over fat is as hard as wax, yet they still call it butter.

Canadian rapeseed oil, aka Canola(tm). Allegedly "cold pressed" and packed with Omega fatty acids... but then heat treated to remove impurities.

Fake sugar: high fructose corn syrup. Or they could just grow actual sugar cane or sugar beet crops. They're ego-tripping hard on this one.

I could go on...
154  Other / Off-topic / Re: Study finds marijuana can increase your IQ on: January 14, 2015, 10:50:44 PM
how would this be even possible? lol.

Hormesis. Therapeutic up to some level, and harmful beyond that, just like Panadol, just about every medicine ever created, chocolate, alcohol and even water.

Even if weed kills neurons, obviously the first ones to go are going to be the weakest. Also, pruning is bad because it partially kills trees, right? But every gardener knows that pruning makes plants stronger.

So the findings actually make sense, but of course a lot of people have some agenda. Whether it's to keep you going to church regularly (and giving them money) instead of becoming spiritual and lazy. Or to keep you mindlessly occupied in the corporate rat race, never catching a breath. In the scheme of things, being a millionaire/ high wage earner is much better for the government and banking elites than it is for YOU. Others are just do-gooders, out to fix everyone else because they believe that their beliefs are right, and must therefore be imposed on everyone around them.

Well the reason why people with mental disorders are committed to a hospital is because they are either a danger to themselves or to others. Any time the police need to take someone to a hospital for these reasons they are in somewhat danger as the person could try something irrational to the police

Maybe the cops need to be locked up in a mental hospital? They are obviously a danger to themselves and others.
156  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is a Madmax outcome coming before 2020? Thus do we need anonymity? on: December 31, 2014, 05:59:43 AM

So the only way a decentralized economy can work is by letting all of them work freely. Yes the ad costs are inneficient, but if the resources get thin, or if the advertisers dont pay that much to them, then the ad costs will go down.

You see either way the free decentralized market will solve anything. Good old Adam Smith economy, not Marxist bullshit Smiley

"Free market" also means contract freedom, which means oppressive one-sided contracts with no recourse for the weaker party if things turn sour.

A 12 month rental agreement makes your real-world costs VERY sticky, so you cannot just drop your prices in response market whims. You could probably buy insurance, but even that can be gamed by speculators playing a good-cop-bad-cop routine to try and bankrupt you so that they can collect your property. Those sorts of shenanigans probably contributed to the Great Depression: Libertarianism's last gasp in the Wild West, before governments got bigger and more organised.
157  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Is a Madmax outcome coming before 2020? Thus do we need anonymity? on: December 31, 2014, 05:22:12 AM

5% harvesting the rice, (farm labour, land, equipment depreciation, fuel)
15% distribution (transport, sorting, un/packing)
30% marketing (technicolor cardboard, industrial printers, cutting and folding machines, glue dispensers, single meal-sized packages and laser-cutters for the novelty perforated plastic, miles of conveyor belts, related factory work, industrial real-estate, graphic artists, advertisers, actors and film people, IT and accountants)
40 % retail (more of the above, advertising and branding, shop managers, assistants, premium real-estate
10% cooking; disposal (I add this for completeness to account for rubbish trucks, waste water and the like.)

Thats bullshit, everyone has the right to advertisement/self promotion, that the only way that decentralized economic units (companies) can promote themselves.

Oh sure state central planning doesnt waste resources on 5x more advertisement, so is it more efficient. Hell no because then you get bureocracy, unmotivated people, slow progress, and corruption.

You should read some real economy because you have been brainwashed.

====

Oh and BTW, if we talk about production/distribution/selling costs did you know that the government will take more money out from any product than any retailer or ad company out there?

Yeah:
5% harvesting the rice, (farm labour, land, equipment depreciation, fuel)  INCOME TAXED + VEHICLE TAXED+ FUEL TAXED +LOCAL PROPERTY TAX+ WORKERS WAGE (WHICH IS ALSO TAXED)
15% distribution (transport, sorting, un/packing) CUSTOM TARIFFS + TRANSPORT PERMITS + INCOME TAX + FUEL TAX+ WORKERS WAGE (WHICH IS ALSO TAXED) [/b]
30% marketing (technicolor cardboard, industrial printers, cutting and folding machines, glue dispensers, single
meal-sized packages and laser-cutters for the novelty perforated plastic, miles of conveyor belts, related factory work, industrial real-estate, graphic artists, advertisers, actors and film people, IT and accountants)
TRADEMARK REGISTRATION+OTHER GOVERNMENT PERMITS+ INCOME TAX + FUEL TAX+VAT COST OF ITEMS+ WORKERS WAGE (WHICH IS ALSO TAXED) [/b]
40 % retail (more of the above, advertising and branding, shop managers, assistants, premium real-estate
INCOME TAX + WORKERS WAGE (WHICH IS ALSO TAXED)+FUEL TAX+LOCAL PROPERTY TAX [/b]
10% cooking; disposal (I add this for completeness to account for rubbish trucks, waste water and the like.)
INCOME TAX + VAT+GREEN TAX+CARBON TAX+WORKERS WAGE (WHICH IS ALSO TAXED) [/b]

I covered that with the comment:
Quote
Sprinkle a deduction of roughly 20~40% tax all over, mixed up as VAT, income and other taxes.

One thing that GDP statistics are actually useful for is to see how much a country's government costs in comparison, and it's usually around the 20~40% region. And that would include a lot of arguably useful services like health care where saving people's lives adds nothing to the GDP.

Quote
How about that, the government taxed every single item, if done through separate companies, which is mostly the case, how about that commie? So while you are bragging about the ant you fail to recognize the elephant.

Again, they discourage tedious repetition of work. Separate companies = separate bureaucracy at every step. So who's inefficient? Vertical integration is more efficient, and not just because it reduces tax. It also improves accountability, reducing the chances of getting hit-and-run suppliers of faulty products.

Besides, you totally missed the point of the discussion, and I'm not a commie, so whatever.

Quote
In all cases the government will take more money out of any product than anyone else.
I showed that that wasn't the case. Expensive cities are a structural problem that cost far more than a mere 20 to 40% taxation.

Another example: farmers sometimes complain about fruit that's not worth picking up off the ground because they get 5 cents per kilo, whereas in a shop you still have to pay $2 ~ $5 depending on the season. So don't give me that redneck hysteria about taxation being the most expensive factor because it's patently not.

good weapons

and bad people?

People should investigate, where the roots of some of the technology that they use come from. A lot of Russian innovation in technology, medicine found its way to the West, but as USSR didn't allow individual inventors to take patents,  these inventions were "adopted" by Western scientists and with minor modifications promoted as their own.

I'm sure the USSR would approve. Share and share alike.

After WW2, the USSR somehow had ICBMs at a time when the "more advanced" US was forced to rely on planes with nukes constantly circling around the USSR. How was that possible? Easy, the USSR "shared" the German technology from them.

These independent republics/crazy war-zones seem incompetent. They want their own flag, and some tough macho idiots playing politics, but they are unable to maintain the shitty Soviet-era infrastructure.

Clearly, they need more "safety and stability" so they will have to merge with Russia, which is what you guys wanted all along.
