81  Economy / Marketplace / Any BitCoin Restaurants/Physical Shops in the UK on: August 15, 2011, 12:55:11 PM
Title says it all. I am wondering if there is a Meze Grill equivilant in the UK that accept BitCoins as payment?

Thanks!
82  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Republic Of Bitcoin on: July 29, 2011, 03:22:30 PM
Virtual, or online societies wouldn't work, in my opinion, because trade is usually done for physical things.

An earlier poster used the analagy of people saying they are an online king and demand taxes off of everybody. It's ludicrous.

I believe Bitcoins adoption will be slow as pockets of communities reach out to each other on a global level with ease, a level that couldn't be achieved with our surrent monetary systems, this will mean local businesses will eventually pop up.

Of course, if a country wishes to adopt BitCoin as their national currency, how on Earth will they get enough to support a national economy? Will the governmetn be expected to buy millions of BitCoins from the market?

I believe if this adoption were to take place, first the government would create a paper currency which would be backed by BitCoin, (more like digital coin not a certificate for redeemable BitCoin. Self-issued credit in terms of BitCoin) as that would be easier to distribute. They would also declare BitCoins as legal tender, so slowly but surely, BitCoins will be introduced into the national economy, but the economy isn't stunted by lack of BitCoins.
83  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: AUD to BTC exchange - legalities and methods? on: July 27, 2011, 02:29:01 PM
The reason BritCoin took off was because it was a place where buyers and sellers could meet and thus determine the price amongst themselves collectively.

If an exchange is to open in Australia, I reckon the same principle would make it flourish, rather than an exchange that buys and sells, because that is limiting the amount of buyers and sellers. Sure there is additional responsibilities attached to looking after the BTC and Australian Dollars, but as people trade more, the risk is lowered and you prove yourself to be trustworthy.

I woudl very much liek to see genjix and CCCMikey collaborate to produce a marketplace site, definately!

If congress imposed a 100% tax on everyone making over $250k, confiscated all of last year's profits by the Fortune 500 companies, and took all assets of America's 400 billionaires...we could fund our gov't for 8 months.
WOW...WTF do they use all that cash on?!? Does it go back to helping society? It seems like the only thing they achieve is greater and greater debt.

It is spent on paying off loans so that more loans to the government can be made - basically what you just said!
85  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: IBB - Islamic Bank of Bitcoin ( ) بنك بتكوين الاسلامي on: July 19, 2011, 01:22:19 PM
How do IBB get their money? Is it purely using investment by shares?

Do you offer current and savings accounts? I knwo that Islamic Bank of Britain do some. Their current account has no overdraft facility and they pay no interest, which they view as a loan to the bank payable on demand, and the savings accounts are like silent partnerships where the money is invested and a proportion of the profits are returned (but I think there are conditions on accessing money from this type of account)

Will you do something similar?
86  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: official-britcoin readded to bitcoincharts/bitcoinwatch even with "absurd data" on: July 13, 2011, 10:37:11 PM
Nothing is wrong with BritCoin itself, but there must be SOMETHING wrong when it is reporting that a sale was made where somebody paid 10,000 pound for a BitCoin, I am certain that sale never went through or was for a small amount of BitCoins, it shouldn't have even got matched in the first place!

All the erroneous data needs to be cleaned out, when you look at BitCoin Charts and display the last 60 days' activity for BritCoin its all skewered because of this rubbish data!

yes
88  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: britcoin removed from bitcoincharts and bitcoinwatch due to "absurd data." on: July 13, 2011, 01:41:42 PM
I noticed this as well, and it was messing up the graph big-time. It must be a bug or something.
89  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: UK exchange: Britcoin on: July 13, 2011, 10:12:28 AM
Why has BritCoin been taken off the BitCoin Charts?
90  Economy / Economics / Re: How do Exchanges work? on: July 11, 2011, 12:12:52 PM
I think the question of the OP is how are the trades matched?

E.G.

If there is already a sell order at 10 each and you want to place a buy order at 12 each, how do the exchanges decide what is traded? Are they matched at 10 each, which is what the seller would accept, minimum, giving the buyer, effectively a discount.

OR

Is this settled at 12 each, which is what the buyer was willing to pay but giving the seller a better deal.
91  Economy / Economics / Re: What creates this price for a bitcoin? on: July 09, 2011, 06:05:49 PM
I dont look at it like that.  I see a dollar is a dollar, period. Always has since I have been born, doesnt matter if prices and wages change, thats not in the equation, its just a dollar is a dollar.

A dollar is a dollar, indeed, however what that dollar can buy for you constantly becomes less and less. This is shrouded with our wages going up making us think we get pay rises, and prices going up making us think that supermarkets want to make a larger profit. Compare and see how much bread your dollar could buy 10 years ago compared to how much bread it can buy now.

It depends on your point of view: Is the dollar going down in value is is everything else on the planet going up in value???
92  Economy / Economics / Re: My Country don't accept Dollar anymore on: July 09, 2011, 05:58:30 PM
Talking about exchanges, does anybody know if there is an Indonesian BitCoin exchange (as in one for exchanging Rupiah into BitCoin and vice versa)?
93  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: UK exchange: Britcoin on: June 23, 2011, 07:15:39 AM
which chart are you referring to?

This chart: http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/britcoinGBP#rg60zczsg2011-06-23zeg2011-06-23ztgOzm1g10zm2g25

See also https://britcoin.co.uk/api/getTrades.php for numerical data:

Code:
{"date": 1308779642, "price": 10.1702, "amount": 0.94},
 {"date": 1308780181, "price": 10.2041, "amount": 0.00599566},
 {"date": 1308780782, "price": 500.0000, "amount": 0.01},
 {"date": 1308780841, "price": 5000.0000, "amount": 0.001},
 {"date": 1308781381, "price": 10.2041, "amount": 0.48400469},
 {"date": 1308781441, "price": 10.0000, "amount": 0.8},

Code:
1308780782 -> Wed Jun 22 15:13:02 2011 PST
1308780841 -> Wed Jun 22 15:14:01 2011 PST

so about 3 hours ago.

I suspect someone read my posts here about a bug that causes all trades here to happen at the rate posted by new orders rather than existing ones, and wanted to try it out.

If you attempt to buy 0.001 coins at 5000 BTC/GBP, you will be matched at that rate.  You can pay as much as you like.  That's the bug my patch fixes ( see https://gitorious.org/~dooglus/intersango/dooglus-intersango/commit/98961ecd84e6d8da2e7f4df3d15a90f4e1534dcb for the patch ).

Looking back a bit, it happened too:

Code:
{"date": 1308743881, "price": 10.0000, "amount": 0.06},
 {"date": 1308746401, "price": 9.8000, "amount": 1},
 {"date": 1308747301, "price": 270.2703, "amount": 0.111},
 {"date": 1308747541, "price": 9.7600, "amount": 0.01},
 {"date": 1308747541, "price": 9.7600, "amount": 0.01},

Somebody paid $27 for 0.111 BTC at Wed Jun 22 05:55:01 2011 PST - because that's what they asked for.

http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/britcoinGBP#rg60zigDailyzczsg2011-06-13zeg2011-06-21ztgOzm1g10zm2g25 shows people also paid far too much for BTC on 13-Jun and 21-Jun.

This is exactly what I refer to. Is genjix aware of this?
94  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: UK exchange: Britcoin on: June 22, 2011, 10:54:01 PM
Recently there have been unrealistic trades, apparently, shown on BitCoin Charts. Recently there were BitCoins sold for 5000 each, apparently?

Is something wrong with the site (Charts or Britcoin?) These can't be right.
95  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Buy shares, get coins as profit, sell when it goes high & enjoy life on: June 13, 2011, 04:40:10 PM
Each share represents a portion of your company. For each share you sell, you have less ownership of the company.

But previous posters are correct. Once a company goes public, it is exactly that, owned by the public (the public that bought shares in the company, mind you)

Once a company goes public 100% of the company is up for grabs by anybody, you can only claim majority shareholder status if you own (bought) 50% or more shares of the company. And because you started the company in the beginning, true the company would have belonged to you, Dishwara, but as soon as you made it public, you immediately divorced yourself from the company unless you buy back your shares.

True, if you had a loan it would've been different, I guess this is the difference between a loan and shares.

If one is withholding shares from the market, one should either buy them immediately, or put them for sale immediately, if 2000 shares were issued, and you only bought 40 of them, I would agree with previous poster, this, unfortunately, doesn't make you the majority shareholder, I'm afraid.

Up again
97  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin to USD on: June 10, 2011, 04:20:21 PM
Using Liberty Reserve to fund an mtgox account is best.

I would suggest steering as far away from paypal as possible. There was a previous merchant who bough and sold BitCoins using PayPal, however his accounts was frozen as PayPal do not allow currency exchange (implicitly meaning that they acknowledge BitCoins legitimacy as a currency).

Or you can buy them over-the-counter with somebody else who will meet up with you in person to exchange them with cash or give you a bank account to deposit the money into.
98  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading Bitcoins from the UK on: June 09, 2011, 11:10:41 PM
Britcoin is coming back up after a lot of testing. Also, the mininum transaction level will be siginifantly lowered in a matter of minutes. The bids will be matching imminently as well.

We will be daily processing withdaws and deposits from now on.

Thanks genjix for your efforts!
99  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: UK exchange: Britcoin on: June 09, 2011, 11:33:30 AM
Well if you got yours in a couple of hours while I've waited 9 days then there's a problem. On the 6th I sent a message to webmaster@britcoin.co.uk asking him to look into it.

Yeah, I've waited 6 days (though only 4 working days to be fair) and not had anything come through. 2 hours is a bit of an annoyance, I would have had a 50% rise on my order since then Sad

UID: 1184

If you are so eager to buy BitCoins and the exchange is not doing it, perhaps you can buy some over the counter? I'm sure there's some guys in the UK willing to accept a bank transfer to send you some of their BitCoins.
100  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: UK exchange: Britcoin on: June 09, 2011, 09:35:11 AM
At the time of writing this, there is a sell order for 18.21 BTC for 300GP making it 16.4745 GBP/BTC

However there is also a buy order for 45.2 BTC for 840 GBP making it 18.5841 GBP/BTC

A guy is willing to pay £18.5 for BTC and somebody is willing to sell for £16.47.

Is there a problem with the site where the orders are not being matched and the trade not happening?

Many thanks

Sultan
