Personally, I would feel sorry for them.

Imagine being bred to be cute over many generations, inheriting genetic defects that would make your life painful and short.

No wonder why they are so aggressive all the time, they are often very inbred.

If there are alternatives available, no.

If you are stuck in the middle of the desert, yes.
83  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin will replace oil and Gold on: October 03, 2021, 12:40:18 PM
No way.

As long as exchanges and whales fuck with the price as much as possible with their bots, it would be impossible for Bitcoin to replace Beanie Babies, let alone oil.

Well, we shouldn't trust what Tether says as they have incentives to lie to you.

This company holds the same status as Lehman Brothers as too big to fail.

If it fails, then liquidity dries up. This leads to investors taking their money out of the crypto market.

If it doesn't collapse Bitcoin, it would maim it.
85  Other / Off-topic / Re: NFT Collectors on: October 03, 2021, 11:54:07 AM
I am going to be honest, NFTs are overrated.

They are just overpriced certificates for pngs you don't even own.

Not everything has to be decentralized: sometimes centralization is the most efficient way to do a task.

Just ignore anything that calls itself a NFT and you would be good.

My biggest enemy is the doubts I have.

It prevents me from doing well.

It's more like saying if you have the choice between throwing water on a flaming pile of shit or your house that's on fire, you should choose wisely.

A flaming shit is still flaming. Wink

Sometimes in order to solve the big problems, you need to take care of the small ones.

It may not always be the solution, but it is one less problem to take care of.
88  Economy / Economics / Re: Neopets attempts to cash in on NFTs, proceeds to burn up goodwill on: October 02, 2021, 10:04:13 PM
I wouldn't give a second thought to Neopets, NFTs, or any of those sideshow distractions.  Support real cryptocurrency (like bitcoin) and either get involved in politics directly or make your voice heard to the politicians now in power.  If you don't, you'll regret it, believe me.

That is equal to saying that we shouldn't waste water on a house fire because the Amazon is ablaze.

While I agree with the fact that the NFT market is at best filled with charlatans, it would be a stretch to say that situations like what happened with Neopets
are "sideshow distractions".

The reason why there is so "much outrage and cohesion" with these issues is that the targets don't have the ability to wipe your existence and the
existence of others with the natural ease of a muscle twitching.

But the more substantial reason is that unlike the "economic policies that are surely going to wreck the countries in which we live", there is a way to measure the success of the measures taken.

For the example of the NFTs, it is simple: get the company to take down them and say sorry.

In contrast, it is difficult to judge whether certain economic policies are successful or not as there are many, many criteria to choose from.

Leader: We have done it, we had saved the economy
Economist: Sire, you had destroyed half of the country doing so and 90% of the population is still starving.

No wonder when faced with such large problems, people would rather "continue staring at their phones".

This is thus why I respectfully disagree with the quoted statement above.

If you need to actively promote your investments, that ain't a good investment.

Good investments often speak for themselves.

They don't need a PR team.

Isn't this Neo Pets a game? It's not an NFT game though as I feel like it's have seen some of their advertisements before so they sound familiar to me. I don't see why not get in the action, the craze is a wildfire and it's not a good thing to ignore it as it is right now.

Just because it is popular doesn't mean you should jump onto it.

That is just FOMO, which can lead to shit decisions.

I can imagine the meeting that led to this:

Old Tired Executive™: What can we do to attract the darn kids to our game again?

Fresh New Intern™: We could spruce up the game with new features and paintbrushes.

Old Tired Executive™: Nah, that would hamper our profit margins.

Another Old Executive™: What about we try some of these hip crypto thingies, that would really attract the youth.

Old Tired Executive™: You are right about this, who should we trust with our revival?

Fresh New Intern™: We have artists and stuff.

Old Tired Executive™: Nah, give it to the B Team.

I will send the thread replies to the subreddit to see if they are convinced.

The purpose of r/Buttcoin is not thoughtful discussion. It is humor. It shouldn't be taken seriously. Your rebuttals won't be taken seriously, so I wouldn't bother.

Well, I will do anyway.

97  Economy / Economics / Re: Inflation and Deflation of Price and Money Supply on: September 17, 2021, 02:27:22 PM

Can't, I don't have enough merit for images.

Still, the fact that people are talking in fiat doesn't exactly bode well for Bitcoin.

BTC is and has been abiding well, paper dollars on the other hand? Not so good.

Not really.

It is only good in a speculator's sense along with Beanie Babies and rare Pokemon Cards, not in a 'useful for exchange of goods and services' sense.

As a currency, there are more things to consider than how much inflation it gets like being useful for buying goods and services.
98  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: OpenSea admits insider trading on: September 17, 2021, 02:12:30 PM
First there was an accusations about someone from inside doing some manipulation. The alleges accusations come from someone in twitter.

And now they have admit to it? Weird in any case, are they any repercussions to the person who committed this fraud? I know that the reputation of OpenSea is on the line here, but not sure if they really value it or not. Will the next competitor take advantage of this situation?

With the lack of consequences, another NFT company would come up to fulfill the demand of speculators for public images turned into overpiced pngs.

And the exact same thing will happen again, and again.

There is not a lot of consequences in crypto unless you manage to cross into millions of dollars.
99  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: OpenSea admits insider trading on: September 16, 2021, 07:01:59 PM
This does not bode well for NFTs.

Why not?
If somebody was doing insider trading with some shares does it mean those companies should go bankrupt or are bad investments?
Besides, everyone knew that all those auctions were rigged, this is just a guy who took advantage of the system but the system was bad in the first place, the moment a selection on what is to be promoted and what not happen of course it's not going to be anything fair in it.

The danger to NFTs is time, just like with every fad, not some guy making a few thousand dollars in a billion market.

Well, the difference between the share analogy and this situation is that you don't see the actual stock exchange buying shares.

Even if time would eventually kill it, this piece of news may knock off customer confidence in NFTs.

If it ain't dead now, it is dead later.

This does not bode well for NFTs.

Exactly the same things banks do.

Why am I not suprised?
