Has anyone set up a "LIGHTNING NODE" on their full node Apollo BTC using these instructions?

https://lightning.readthedocs.io/INSTALL.html#to-build-on-ubuntu

Were there any issues?  Has it worked?

Maybe @jstefanop can advise!

Also, I have been trying to connect my node to my ledger wallet.  No matter what I do, it does not work.  I followed instruction and nothing.  Do you have to have SatStack running?  I so, I can not get the SatStack to run on Windows 11.  Please help!

FYI we have been getting some reports of users mistakenly doing a full distro upgrade to their system, this will still brick your OS as it pulls the full ubuntu upgrade to 22.04, which our board is not designed for.

The base system will still be 20.04, and you should only do apt update/upgrade...do NOT do a full dist upgrade if the OS prompts you to upgrade to 22.04.

The fix we implemented is to only do base system updates/security updates to the current 20.04 and 5.15.x kernel which the Apollo will remain on for the foreseeable future.

Can someone provide the step-by-step instructions and procedures on how to do "apt update/upgrade"?  I am learning and want to learn more

trying to connect my node to ledger live....will this work ?
has anyone tried and got it working ?

Yes, with the new update all you have to do is add the line

rpcallowip=youripaddress

in the settings page of your node and save. IP address has to be the local IP address of your computer you have ledger live installed. You then can enable the connect full node settings in ledger live using your nodes ip address and its RPC credentials (username futurebit RPC password displayed in settings). Obviously both the node and your computer have to be on your local network for this to work.

That should do it and allow you to broadcast your Bitcoin txs through your own node via your ledger hardware wallet!

Appreciate the reply but unfortunately it did not work.

rpcallowip=123.456.7.890 in the config box. computer ip where ledger live is installed.

Then on ledger live connect node enter my ip address of the futurebit miner along with the port number example 123.123.1.123:8333

user futurebit password from settings page. Have tried this in TOR mode as well and still nothing.

I was able to reconnect a software wallet by adding the below lines to the settings box and saving, as clipped from econoalchemist's tutorial at https://bitcoinmagazine.com/guides/how-to-use-futurebit-apollo-bitcoin-node-miner
The recent update changed previously modified bitcoin.conf file described therein with TOR enabled. This seemed to worked for me but I have zero clue if this may cause other adverse issues

rpcbind=127.0.0.1
rpcbind=192.168.69.16 (your Apollo local IP address)
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcallowip=192.168.69.12 (your desktop local IP address)

On the PC side with LEDGER Wallet, did/do you have the json file lss.exe RUNNING?  If so, what were your steps to get it to run on windows? Also did you have to open ports 8333 and 8332 on your router?

~snip~

Can we update Ubunto to the latest version without bricking system?

FYI this has already been fixed in the next firmware image that should be released in the next few weeks.

Its a large update that fixes all remaining security and image issues and lays the foundation for big feature updates now that we finally have both unit production and image software at a mature state. We'll finally be able to launch our app ecosystem and we have been listening to all the feature requests and will start rolling these out in the next few months!
That's good to hear! Also great that this 'app ecosystem' is coming. But will it also allow people to update packages and operating system normally through their package manager?
Being able to use this as a 'desktop computer' has been one of its main selling points from day one, to be honest, so there are customers waiting for this update for literally years now.

And will it have the latest version of Armbian and nodeJS? Because the web dashboard as of now doesn't run on latest node..

There is nothing preventing you from installing any linux app on the desktop right now, but yes updating normally will no longer brick the system as long as you dont do anything crazy like a dist upgrade. Both the Armbian subsystem and linux kernel have been updated to 5.15.x

With the latest release, is it safe to update software on our system without affecting operations?  I seen that Ubuntu 22.04.1 is available for upgrade.

Has anyone used the NODE Configuration to set up ledger live access?  If so, would you please share how you configured the node from the settings file?

Excellent news!  Congrats to the whole Futurebit team on the update.

I look forward to updating as soon as I backup the Home Assistant data, which I just installed on Monday and loving so far (for those interested).

Two questions from me:

 - being a Batch 3 owner, will there be future updates/features that come to the new MCU2 and not to MCU1?  Hope I'm on a 'retired' or 'legacy' hw platform after only a few months.

- after reboot, at the login screen, is there a reason virtual keyboard is disabled/not loading?  I share a keyboard between my workstation and futurebit.  Was hoping to use the virtual key board to login, but doesn't appear to work.  Was this intentional?

Both MCUs are identical and will be supported with any software updates, the new version just has different components that are more readily available and needs a different kernel to run so thats the reason for two versions.

Not sure about the virtual keyboard, is this occurring with the new image?

With system update are we talking about the firmware for the miner or the operating system, such as firefox and the word docs?

You should get a notification in the top right of the WebUI

Dont have it.  I would post a screen shot if allowed.

That's extremely odd. Best bet I guess would be to wait for FutureBit to post the 0.3.4 images and then flash the SD card from that. Alternatively you could try to reflash 0.3.2 and see if a fresh install will trigger the update prompt

I was thinking the same thing

v0.3.4 of the Apollo UI has been Released!

Security:
-Fix vulrablilites when dashboard is exposed to public IP
-Bitcoind RPC is now randomly generated internally and only accessible via dashboard settings
-FutureBit user system password is now updated to dashboard password during initial setup

Feature:
-Option to enable Bitcoin Node to run via TOR network
-Users can directly edit bitcoin.conf via dashboard and edit their own settings (ie ipallow for external wallet connections etc)
-Better error handling and displaying UI faults to user

Fixes:
-UI stat bug cause by old corrupt log files
-Issue causing internal error when both wifi and ethernet interfaces are used
-Additional bug fixes and improvements

You should see a yellow update button on your UI, press this to start the update and wait until either the UI automatically reloads, or refresh your browser once you see your Apollo start mining again.

If you encounter any issues wait at least 15 minutes before you do anything as rebooting or power cycling during an update thats not complete can brick your system. Rebooting should fix any UI issues after the update.

Updated image with new UI as well as updated OS subsystem will be released next week.

Also encountered a small issue where if your Apollo has over 2-3 months of uptime, pulling the new update from git might not work, so if you have a really long uptime reboot your Apollo before starting the update (good practice either way to reboot it before performing updates as that clears memory and caches that could stall the update).

Today is July 21, 2022 and I have yet to see or receive the update to v3.4.  I am still on v3.2. Where can I get the update?

I think I need to repeat my question Smiley at the moment my units run with Raspberry PI4 and I don't like it because of more cables flying around.
Can I replace Orange Pi4 with Orange PI4 LTS and flash it with publicly available Apollo BTC image? Will it work?
Nope, it won't work. It's compiled for a different chip.

What kind of PI board is installed in last batch of full units? Orange PI4 seems to be not available anymore.
Orange Pi 4. At least in batch 3, since that's what I have. I also don't think they changed it in batch 4, otherwise there would be binaries available for a new SBC in the mega folder.

Apollo BTC SD Card Image/OS Download and Install

Folder for all Apollo BTC Image Releases: https://mega.nz/folder/ZlxnwYZb#ZN77cDAcXa6dN_2QKSdT_Q
[...]

Batch 4 will use our custom version of the LTS board, so we will be providing an image that should also work with the generic LTS board as well.
Since Batch 4 is being released, is there going to be an updated firmware and will lightning node be added?

Anyone know or have an update for software update and or lightning network addon?

For the Apollo miner binary itself, you can find all the updates here: https://github.com/jstefanop/Apollo-Miner-Binaries/releases

For the Single Board Computer (Bitcoin node, etc), you can find all the updates here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5340015.msg57091052#msg57091052

Does any of this allow us to set up lightning node

The Single Board Computer is running a full Bitcoin node, so you can run a lightning node there on top of it.

I don't know if the official SD card image comes with a lightning node pre-installed, but you can definitely install it and set it up yourself as it's basically just a computer.

Can you explain how

What is your daily payout per machine?
Kano is PPLNS. No payout until the pool finds a block. But then it'll be a much larger payout than usual.
At the moment, the last block found by https://kano.is/ is roughly half a year ago.

What payout method does the pool use?

We use PPLNS (Pay Per Last N Shares)

PPLNS means that when a block is found, the block reward is shared among the last N shares that miners sent to the pool, up to when the block was found.
The N value the pool uses is 3 days.

You can also mine Solo here if you wish, see Help->Solo for details here

How much of each block does the pool reward?

Transaction fees are included in the miner reward.
Pool fee is 0.9% of the total.

When are payments sent out?

The block 'Status' must first reach '+101 Confirms' on the Blocks page, and then is flagged as 'Matured', before the reward is distributed.
The block reward transaction is created manually some time before the block matures, and sent out automatically a minute after the block matures.

The payout may use a low fee transaction, so we will confirm it with the next block we find after the transaction is sent out
if it isn't confirmed before that by some other network block.
You may not see the transaction in your wallet before the first confirm.

What's a shift?

When your miner sends shares to the pool, the shares are not stored individually, but rather summarised into shifts.
Shifts average ~50 minutes in length.
Aproximately every 30s, the pool generates new work and sends that to all the miners.
The pool also sends new work every time a block is found on the Bitcoin network.
A shift summarises all the shares submitted to the pool for 100 work changes.
However, when we find pool blocks, the current shift ends at the work in which the block was found
and a new shift starts.
A pool restart will also end the current shift and start a new shift.
A network Difficulty change will also end the current shift and start a new shift.

Thank you

A note for anyone looking for another PPLNS pool. The apollo is a fun piece of hardware and works great, but better to verify than just blindly trust! After testing the releases of the miner binaries ( 64 bit v. 1, 32/64 bit v.2) and showing they can submit high enough difficulty shares to find a block, Kano's Pool will now allow them on the PPLNS side and not just solo.
Is it activated now on kano's pool ?

Yep, I've got my three pointed to the PPLNS side there.

What is your daily payout per machine?

Looks neatly finished so far - Except for the small "CPU-FAN". Since the thing is only attached with two screws - completely warped and sounds accordingly...

Basically it is mentioned that no updates may be pulled from the official Ubuntu Repos. But what if I want to install additional packages like anydesk? Need an update from the libgcc1 etc... and apt cache update and more packages?

Adding more packages should be fine as long as you don't update any current dependencies that the Apollo software uses. Give it a try; worst case you need to reflash your SD, no big deal

Does that include Umbrel and Lightning Node

May be of interest to those looking to get more hash power from their units.  Seen others mention using this PSU on the Apollos, no personal experience with them - but I'm exploring it.

https://slickdeals.net/f/15660049-corsair-rm750x-modular-750w-gold-psu-83-at-amazon

Great deal! The stock power supplies are rated for 200watts and in turbo mode I was seeing 201watts in turbo. Isn’t this bad? I thought you’re supposed to leave a 20% buffer so that you’re not maxing out the psu?

I tested these units on a 750w psu as well and if you abide by the 80% rule, you’ll need higher than an 850w unit if you’re going to run more than two units.

I don’t recommend running these at max settings. I don’t live in a cold climate and these got really hot fast! 75C and the room was hot. I went from 12.5th/s in turbo @ 800watts to 14.5th/s at 1050watts for 4 units (two 750w psus). Each unit saw about 266wats at full speed.

Mine runs at 205w on turbo mode

Okay...and if your psu is rated for only 200w and you're operating above the 80% (which would be 160w) doesn't that concern you at all?

The FutureBit PSU is already derated to 80%, its designed to run @ 200 watts 24/7. If this was a normal ATX PSU it would be marketed as a "250W" PSU.

Awesome news

Hi,

I have 3 Full Node Apollo systems that I just got a few days ago.  Nice little hardware.  I am trying to SSH into one of them but no matter what combination of username:password I try it fails.

I have tried futurebit:futurebit and even used the password that I set for the web interface, but no luck.

Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks
