861  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [48h AUCTION] Become part of Crypto Cosmos card game: your "HACKER card" NAME! on: December 11, 2018, 04:43:48 PM
Ahhh, I am very sorry Chris! I wanted this acution to be short, so I could finish the last card and go to the final print stage quickly. However I guess I should have thought about this better and let the auction run for more than 48 hours.

...

Appreciate your interest, I'll try to improve my planning in the future. Smiley

You did nothing wrong, Kryptowerk. I was out of town visiting family, and I forgot to check the collectibles threads for a few days. Totally legitimate auction. (Personally, I like short auctions too.)

Your planning is fine. No improvements needed. Wink

Chris

Dang! I was on a roadtrip, driving thru snow and ice for the last six hours! I would’ve totally bid on this! Oh, well. Maybe next time? Sad

Congratulations on the win, MJ!

864  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [Brainstorm] How do we verify/validate newbie/unknown bidders in larger auctions on: December 05, 2018, 08:39:01 PM
Lots of good points...however I feel this thread is also pointing out on possible alts made by the seller himself.

How does one verify that?

In other words prevent shill bidding from happening

^^^ This is my concern too.

Reading the comments thus far, it seems the collectibles community is talking about two distinct problems.

If the problem is a newbie account not paying after the win, then yes, an escrow deposit would be a good solution. Personally, I’ve never seen that as a problem in need of a solution.

However, I am concerned with shill bidding. Unfortunately, an escrow deposit does nothing to stop shill bidding.

How might we stop shill bidding scoundrels? That’s my question.

Regards,
Chris

I really like the ICG slabs. Congrats on the MS67, MJ.

I’ll bid .02 BTC.

866  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTB] Graded copper 2018 BitcoinPenny on: December 03, 2018, 03:51:06 PM
Really? Nobody had a 2018 copper penny graded and got a MS/PF69?  Roll Eyes

I think MS68 is the highest I've seen our coppers. We sent a few (4 or 5) of our 1st series coppers for grading back in 2015. I believe they all came back MS67. We haven't sent any for grading since then. We'll change that. Wink

Here's a quick link to one of those MS67 coppers.

Chris

Hey, comit. Thanks for posting this thread. You've made me think that we should start sending in a few coins each year for grade submission. In fact, we'll start this year. It's a great idea. Thanks again!

Chris

Help me out sorry - I see retail boxes are still not that expensive (not X), but what boxes would have the silver minis, I checked the op but can't figure it out. Are they only in the X boxes/cases?

Thanks!

Allen & Ginter: Base (Full-Size / Cream Color), Silver Glossy (Full-Size, Silver on Cream, Hobby Box Only), Base Mini, A&G Mini, Black Border Mini, Gold Border Mini (Retail only), Brooklyn Mini ( /25), No-Number aka NNO Mini ( /50), Glow-in-the-Dark Mini, Glossy 1/1 (Full-Size), Glossy Mini 1/1.

Allen & Ginter AND Ginter X: Brooklyn Mini ( /25), No-Number aka NNO Mini ( /50), Glow-in-the-Dark Mini, Glossy Mini 1/1.

Ginter X: Base (Full-Size / Black ~/800), Base Mini (Black ~/100), Silver Mini (1/1), Red Mini ( /5), Brooklyn Mini ( /25), No-Number aka NNO Mini ( /50), Glow-in-the-Dark Mini, Glossy Mini 1/1.

In other words, not counting the special Glossy 1/1 cards, the top 3 most coveted #83 Cryptocurrency cards (by market price) — Base Mini (Black ~/100), Silver Mini (1/1), Red Mini ( /5) — are all found in the Ginter X boxes. Plus, the Ginter X boxes also contain all the other expensive mini cards — Brooklyn Mini ( /25), No-Number aka NNO Mini ( /50), Glow-in-the-Dark Mini — which is why the Ginter X boxes command such high prices. All the most expensive mini cards with none of the cheap insert minis like Flags of Lost Nations or Hottest Peppers like in the regular A&G boxes.

Chris

Wow. an unopened case or is this the same one i drooled over.  man. 325 x 18 boxes. you are doing well.
I think the cases hold 12 boxes of 18 packs each. I could be wrong tho.

Regards,
Chris

Yeah 325x12. Almost a 5x return on investment. Nice

Actually, my case was bought on eBay from a third-party with considerable mark-up, so it's not a 5x return. Sad

UPDATE: Wowser! The last Ginter X box just sold on eBay for $499 + shipping! Shocked

Chris

UPDATE: Tonight's research on Blowout Forums adds another 61 silver mini cards to my list of pulled 2018 Ginter X silver mini cards. My running total is now 162 silver mini cards that have been discovered. (So far, none are the elusive #83 Cryptocurrency.) Many more baseball forums and auction sites to search...

Regards,
Chris

Great scavenger hunt.  Good luck

Thanks, Mrstacy.

And to all of you who collect the Ginter X cards, if you wouldn't mind and if it's not too much trouble, I would greatly appreciate PMs to let me know which silver mini cards that you may have in your current collection. (I'll understand if you'd rather keep secret your ownership of a few select silver mini cards, such as the #83 Cryptocurrency. However, please let me know which cards you feel comfortable disclosing to me.)

Thank you, everyone. We'll track down that elusive #83 Cryptocurrency silver mini card soon enough!

Regards,
Chris

So...I was crunching some numbers to get a better idea of the ever-increasing odds of my sealed Ginter X case holding the magical #83 Cryptocurrency 1/1 silver mini. (I'm equally fond of the /5 red minis, TBH.)

First, I searched all the current and previous eBay ads with the keywords "2018 Ginter Silver Mini" in the title. I listed a total of exactly 101 FOUND silver minis, including my own Walker Beuhler RC. Unfortunately, my search would only go back as far as August 31. That means I'm missing all previous sales for the earliest 3+ weeks, so I'm quite sure that several more silver minis have been discovered than my 101-card tally. Plus, since my search was limited to those exact words in the title only, I would have easily missed any listings with slightly different titles such as "2018 Ginter Silver 1/1" etc.

Regardless, according to Blowout forums and based on the pack odds of silver minis (1:107), approximately 173 Ginter X cases were produced. The odds say there should be exactly 2 silver minis per case. (My personal experience agrees with these odds.)

I'm considering buying a Worthpoint subscription in order to search for all the pre-August 31 eBay listings. I'm quite sure that the bulk of sales happened in the first few weeks, and I'm very interested in calculating the odds of my last Ginter X case holding the 1/1 silver mini. (I may eventually calculate the /5 mini red odds too, which are stated to be 1:22 packs.)

I'll keep you guys posted... Wink

Regards,
Chris

EDIT: According to the official pack odds, a case should hold an average of 2 silver mini 1/1 cards and 10 red mini /5 cards (as well as 12 Brooklyn, NNO, or Glow-in-the-Dark mini cards — one per box).

Just bought a bunch of the blaster boxes again. Only 14 a piece.

Awesome! Good luck!

By the way, how do the blaster boxes (8 packs @ $14) compare to the retail boxes (24 packs @ $45-50) with regard to hit quantity, etc? I may buy a box or two.

Thanks,
Chris

I'm sure Topps is having meetings on who they should include in the next set — Satoshi Nakamoto, Andreas Antonopoulus, etc. (They'll probably do a simple keyword search and come up with Roger Ver and Craig Wright too.)

Chris

If BTC drops much lower, then my unopened Ginter X case will be available to purchase for an even 1 BTC (or approx. $360/box).
