There was some weird speculation around D3, this one is the most hilarious  Cheesy

If the marketing @ Bitmain is not on crack, they will  not call anything with a D anytime soon if they also want to sell it.
What should the + stand for ? A faster loss than the original D3 ?

Did BitMain create any FPGA-miner, yet ? I think they were pretty much ASIC since day 1.

Really wondering where that info should be coming from

Well, the power supply that was delivered with this miner and is included in this review, was a bad quality one.

I also needed to disassemble the miner, remove the motherboard that has the power connectors, and then send it for lightfoot for repair since he's got the skills and equipment needed for the replacement job.

eww that must smell ugly. I thought most PSUs have circuit-breakers that prevent such a literal meltdown.
How much will the whole repair-operation cost you ?

It would be cool if awesome miner would have the option to see a notification in the app if a newer version is available.
Just like e.g. Ios shows that there is a newer version if it contains some fixes.
64  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: USELESS HEATER : ANTMINER D3 , WHAT IS NEXT ? on: November 06, 2017, 10:52:31 PM
Tell my about this BASIC research. What can you research without knowing the most important part of the equation - the new hashing power introduced to the network? So far there are over 35 000 D3's running. The picture would be very different if there were 10 000. You could not known that in august!
It was also impossible to predict how the market would react at the increased difficulty. Dash price could have followed the net hashrate how it was doing in August.

Hashrate always follows price, not the other way around. Takes a bit to sink in, for me at first as well Wink

Does anyone else have it that pools which are configured with privileged api access are gone after a while or after poolissues / miner-reboot ?
It randomly goes back to the config which is set in the webinterface of the miner.

Could you modify your payout-system to work like blockchain.info or other sites like bittrex ?
I was in a hurry to pay a transaction and thought it will go through, because i am used to how it works @ bittrex.
So the ammount i sent was not the full ammount, because the fee was ~ 5$ and i did not calculate it by hand.
So i had to pay another 5$ to send a second transaction of around 30 cents. For another 5$.
The total ammount needed for a transaction is not visible, it must be calculated by the user himself by adding the ammount to send and the fee.
Also please show a notification if the balance is not enough to send a transaction off.

For external miners what profit switching interval shall be the best? It's good to set it to 1 minutes?

Every poolswitch costs you some profit, because it is a short downtime and you do not calculate the complete round for the pool you used before switching.
Imho such a short timer can shoot you in the foot and decrease your income if minimal price-changes trigger constant pool-hopping. The default of 30 mins should be good.

Nice setup!
Which PSU are you using ?

Just got my mining operation set up, going to make a post later tonight. I may have cried a little when I got the first miner fired up and shit just... worked... like a mother giving birth after months of hard work, same thing right?

I love the sound when these fans spin up at 100% when they boot. Gives me goosebumps.

Does this mine equihash / Lyra2rev2 / others as well, or is it strictly limited to Scrypt only?

Its an ASIC and not an FPGA. So no other stuff.

There won't  be a new x11 miner for a long time. Even if a manufacturer  makes something twice as efficient  and twice  as fast it won't matter cause they know the network is stuffed and consumers have no confidence anymore in the algo. X11 Multipools that payout in anything but dash are also to blame but we should count our blessings as all these payouts in btc have helped the btc price get to where it is today. Free heating is still free, just get used to wearing ear muffs.

X11 has been nuked for now. I really wonder if that is what bitmain's plan was or if they overshot their goal.
They must have somehow known what they drop on that tiny market-cap of X11 with these sizeable batches.
Having these machines turn from Highly Profitable to Hated Heater in about 3 Months is quite quick.

But hey maybe some nutjob does a bitcoin-save-the D3-owners-X11-fork and everyone is saved  Tongue
72  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Alternative PSU for Antminer L3+ ? on: November 04, 2017, 09:48:22 PM
Thanks for the hint.
Im a bit cautious with that PSU, Gigabyte is usually not a fan-manufacturer but rather a powersupply-manufaturer for PC-equipment.
So this device looks a bit "salvaged" and the way they cut the edges is looking self-made.
When i order in china, i might order one if they are really turning out safe.
Would be a shame to save money on the PSU which then toasts two miners for 5K.
But maybe im too careful ...
73  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: USELESS HEATER : ANTMINER D3 , WHAT IS NEXT ? on: November 04, 2017, 09:26:38 PM
You can be glad you did not order a inno miner for 10k which does 30GH and is not even out.
Bitmain wanted to burn the competition and threw out so many D3. They achieved it.
They do the same they did with competition for Bitcoin-asics some time ago- flood the market with their miners for cheap price so ROI is impossible for the other buyers.
Now BM has even delisted the D3, they very well knew what they are doing and stopped selling them now. The bombs have fallen. But not all of them - yet.

Wow so thats what happened. First time getting caught up in this miner manufacturer war, and its not a good feeling right now. But i still have hope, and believe in holding dash for long term anyways.
You mentioned bitmain did this to other manufacturering company? Can you give me more details regarding this.
What was the competitors name and model of bitmain and competitor's model miners?
I would like to do some research into this.
Was the units bitmain pumping out that time as bad as the d3 profitably currently?

It was the time of Avalon vs Bitmain i think. Now Avalon is a nice memory of the past.
74  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Alternative PSU for Antminer L3+ ? on: November 04, 2017, 09:05:01 PM
One PSU came DOA from Bitmain, im looking for an alternative.
RMA @BM will take 3 weeks or more i think.
Is there a legit shop for the L3+ - HP-breakout-board from gekkoscience ?
Parallelmining is in cali, that would take too long to ship compared to Bitmain.
Other option would be buying a normal psu and buy some more 6-pin connectors.
The 6-pin should fit into the 8-pin sockets, i think. Right ?  Huh
To get the psu running i would have to bridge two contacts on the 24-pin i think.

All in all very workaroundy danger-soundy  Grin

Thanks. I have also noticed that the recommended xnsub-param causes the profit estimate to stop working.
So if i use for instance this url  stratum+tcp://scrypt.eu.nicehash.com:3333#xnsub  the #xnsub is causing the profit-esti to stop working.
77  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Awesome Miner]- Powerful Windows GUI to manage and monitor up to 5000 miners on: November 03, 2017, 09:14:24 AM
Hey,

i saw that there was an outage on the granatgas-pool and there was no alarm being triggered.
In the dashboard i could see that the hashrate dropped to 0 when there was this outage.
One D3- miner was configured to use Granatgas only so it did not switch.
Another thing i saw is that one miner had a dead hashboard so it lost 33% of its hashrate.
Does decreased hashrate trigger an alert ?

sir this is accurate for me.

---MATH---
12V x 10A = 120watts
so we have 10 ports @ 5V each
120watts/10 ports = 12watts each port
so 12watts/5V = 2.4amps per port
they put 2.1amp per port to be safe +/- 20%

 Smiley

from that calculation you are right, what i meant is that the psu itself draws some power.
It converts from 220 V or 110V to the 5V.
Usually the PSU will draw ~ 20% of the input power to generate the desired output.
Since the 120 is from the wall, i thought the power at the port cannot be 12 Watt.
With 80% eff we have 9,6 Watt per port. Maybe i am missing something.

@jstefanop  Was 1.9 A enough when you tested it the last time ?
80  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] FutureBit Moonlander 2: The Most Powerful and Efficient USB Stick Miner! on: October 30, 2017, 12:04:41 PM

looks good, but im not sure if their values are all accurate. The thing has 12V@10 AMPS which is 120Watt-from the wall.
They claim that you can bring up to 12W per port -> you are then @ 120 Watt. This cannot be right, because the PSU would need 100% efficiency for that.

Im still looking for a highly-efficient model for the few i ordered.
