42  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: 2 year old Armory wallet. Do I have to sync the entire blockchain? on: January 11, 2017, 08:45:19 PM
It'll take a day or so to get Core up to date, then an hour or two to get armory up and running if you have the wallets already loaded, a bit longer if you don't
43  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: BELFAST, N Ireland, Bitcoin Belfast Meetup Jan 2017 on: January 11, 2017, 08:41:06 PM
Hi,

I keep an eye on the meetup groups, and some other types of event North and South. If you do get something going, let me know so it can go up on http://bitcoinsinireland.com/events/
44  Bitcoin / Meetups / Re: Meetups in Ireland on: January 11, 2017, 08:40:22 PM
There's a local event guide at http://bitcoinsinireland.com/events/ which covers all the bitcoin events North and South as I come across them, nothing scheduled so far for this year, although I've heard of a couple of events that are in organisation stage.
45  Bitcoin / Legal / Looking for feedback on Bitoin Risk Warning on: January 11, 2017, 08:37:51 PM
Hi all,

I've updated the bitcoin risk warning on my website at http://bitcoinsinireland.com/bitcoin-risk-warning-please-read/ but would love to get some feedback to see if there is any major areas missing I could add in.

The goal is to have one plain english document that gives an inexperienced/newcomer to bitcoin an understanding of the various risks associated with it.

Thanks

47  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Is restore from digital backup working in .95.1? on: December 22, 2016, 05:41:02 PM
Thanks for this, I looked at the backup in Notepad++ and all it is is nil values, so I guess the backup wasn't done correctly or was corrupted.

So I guess no point trying for this, but hopefully the exercise showed a few things.

I do have the CSV transaction exports, so I'll load up the paper backups again, and see if it's missing any of the wallet addresses between the two.

Cheers goatpig, and i'm happy to volunteer with the website if noone else is!

Thanks

Jamie
48  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Is restore from digital backup working in .95.1? on: December 19, 2016, 04:02:10 PM
Yes, definitely. I used Armory for years before, transferred to Trezor but now I see the project is back up and running I wanted to re-load it back up.

The blockchain loading part is still a pain, but there are massive improvements on the armory side on this machine which is pretty modestly speced.

Logs are at http://pastebin.com/v2X75Br8 and I did a step by step here to show you what I'm seeing for both the import and repair tools. I have the paper backups which restored fine, so focusing on the digital backups I guess that have my notes and all the wallets (even if they weren't used), and I'd like to compare if the paper backups are missing anything that the digital have (ie derivative addresses using that aren't loaded in the paper backup, that either had transactions and a nil balance now, or some small balance left over).

I also tried it on the .wallet files and the rootpubkey ones too, same results

From blank armory all up to speed with blockchain loaded and .13.1

After this, there is nothing happening. I tried to reload Armory to see if it loaded something, which it didn't and then did the repair as suggested. When I do the paper backup at the same point,

After this I get failed to fix, invalid path or file isn't a valid armory wallet.

Also, I noticed that when you have no wallets set up and try and load a wallet, this happens

I hope this helps!

I also noticed something else. I have the first attempt in a sub folder on my desktop, so I thought that it might be to do with the path length, as I was getting error 1, so I put it in c:\ and it then gave me an i/o error asking me if I had valid credentials, and error 2.

So two different errors for the same file.

I then opened armory as administrator, and tried again and got the error 1 file instead.

Thanks

Jamie

Sure, it's at http://pastebin.com/Wc9ZH3fb

The thing that jumps out is

2016-12-19 08:03 (ERROR) -- PyBtcWallet.pyc:2018 - Requested wallet is for a different blockchain!

Also, just a thought, old armory was on something like version 10 of core, whereas the new one is with everything up to date.
50  Bitcoin / Armory / Is restore from digital backup working in .95.1? on: December 19, 2016, 12:10:47 AM
Hi Goatpig,

I'm trying to compare the bitcoin addresses from a paper backup I have, with a digital backup I found at last, as I couldn't see some addresses I knew I had.

After getting everything up and running with the new version of Armory (good work!), I thought I'd test around a few things, and was able to import my paper backup, generate a couple of hundred addresses, and see some of the main ones with some small change in them and balances. However, I know some addresses had no balances, but still transactions.

So I found my digital backups, and am having a problem doing the following steps (and I nuked the paper backups for the moment).

Open armory (expert mode), let it load up and get up to date.

Import or restore wallet

Select import digital backup or watching-only wallet

click continue

the import wallet file dialog opens

I select one of my digital backup files (I have the *.wallet.rootpubkey and *.wallet files)

Then nothing happens.

Now when I did this with the paper wallet, it then computed the addresses etc, but for the digital backup it isn't.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Jamie

P.S. I was reading through some threads on the forum, I'm not a coder but willing to volunteer to tidy up some of the screens as I've spotted a few links to bitcoin.org which don't work, and also willing to test some of the features especially related to backups, message signing etc, wallet repair

just a quick question @goatpig should I have core open or closed when I do the rescan?
52  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.95 is out on: November 18, 2016, 05:12:16 PM
ok, i'll do that now while i'm out
53  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.95 is out on: November 18, 2016, 04:07:18 PM
Ok, so I'll remove the wallets, re-import them when offline, and then try restoring the paper backup again

The bottom right does say it's synced to the latest block

And it's not about the missing history as such, it's more that it's showing a load of addresses, but ones which I know had transactions on them weren't picked up
54  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory 0.95 is out on: November 18, 2016, 12:41:16 PM
ok, so good and bad news. Firstly, I didn't have to redownload the blockchain (yay), and then it's spent the time scanning the wallets (paper backup), and then putting some of the addresses I had used into the wallet. Now I know I saw somewhere there was the ability for me to set how many addresses to generate (i read somewhere 50 or 100).

But I see another issue with the paper backup import. Any of the addresses I had before that have a zero balance now, but had transactions there aren't being shown. I know I have a digital backup somewhere, but that's definitely an issue I want to report. Is there a way I can get it to generate a couple of hundred wallets and see if it picks up the ones that have been used before? I don't mind testing this a few times if it can help, but I know a good few people have probably laminated paper backups

Thanks

Jamie

P.S. The booting speed now is pretty quick, wayyyyy faster than before, and I'm on a lower spec machine than I was in the past.

Howdy,
I need help please.

I installed the new BitCoin Core v0.13.1 with no problems at all.
Runs great.

The problem is the new Armory 0.95.

I installed the Armory 0.95 update (long time Armory user), but the "Initialize Bitcoin Engine" is just spinning.
It never gets to "Build Databases" or "Scan Transaction History"
I've let it run 8hrs to no effect, so definitely not working correctly.
I see that it has successfully spawned BitcoinD under task manager.
This is running under Windows 7 x64 bit.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!
OtisG

Armory 0.95 build for Windows was messed up. You can downgrade to 0.94.1, grab the guardian.exe file from 0.94.1 and put it in the installation folder for Armory, or run Bitcoin Core without Armory management. To run without Armory management, start Armory and go to File > Settings and uncheck "Let armory manage bitcoin core". Then start Bitcoin Core and restart Armory.

I'm trying this now as well. I heard that Armory development is back up and running, so am trying to get things up and running using .95.1 and .13.1.

I'd had a lot of problems in the early posts of this thread (initialising bitcoin engine, 1 second), but disabling auto management of core, loading that up and syncing and then loading up Armory made armoryDB show, and start creating the databases.

I did have an issue before, when restoring an old paper backup where it was showing a balance, but not addresses. So now I can get armory going and see if it'll load my addresses from my paper backup, and get using Armory again.

I'll update when I can get into it, or report any issues in the meantime.

checked again and there's no movement.

I did check for processes, can't see any for ArmoryDB

hi there,

reddit pointed me to the updated armory, so glad it's still going! I've been trying to upgrade from .93 and bitcoin .11 to the latest version .95.1 and the latest core 13.1

I've had a problem whereby it's trying to scan the blockchain (I know it's up to date), and saying 1 second on scanning transactions and not going further. I tried to rescan and rebuild databases, and nothing happens when I reboot (although I did get the pop up welcome message).

I'm going to try and reinstall completely to see if that fixes it, but if I'm doing something obviously wrong, please let me know.

Thanks

Jamie
First, you need to delete the entire folder named "databases" inside of armory's datadir. Then try again.

If you do not see any of the progress bars moving and stuck at 1%, that usually means that the ArmoryDB isn't running or crashed. Stop Armory and make sure that there are no processes named ArmoryDB running. Then try again.

[/quote]

So I have the same problem as PeZ.

However, I'll try to log into C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Armory and delete the databases folder.

Then when I boot up Armory, it does the wallet consistency check, Initialising Bitcoin Engine bar is full green, and scan transaction history says 0% and 1 second.

I do see the databases folder being created, but there aren't any files in it. I'll leave it here for a couple of minutes and see if it starts to boot

Yep, of the survey respondents we had in across 68 countries. That's actually slightly down on last year, although we had triple the sample size.

We had a couple of Algerian responses to the survey, but not enough to look at a dedicated country report
