321  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: October 31, 2011, 05:31:17 PM
Wow, hashrate's just gone up by like 50% within the day. Do I sense people moving from TaxCoin to LiteCoin? Wink

How long have you waited? He posted on the thread like 10 hours ago already. Admins are people too, they sleep sometimes. Wink
323  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SC block reward screwed with again - cryptolottery on: October 30, 2011, 05:51:17 PM
Please, if you're mining SC, be fully aware that it's officially just a game.
Hurray, we now know what the next crazy wacky update will be. I was getting worried, long time without yet another stupid update. Grin

Joined a few hours ago, so far so good. Plus thanks a lot for the Linux instructions, I can finally run it on my server!

No current plans to implement PPLNS at the moment, localhost.  To me, proportional seems fairer as you're paid for each and every share. Its also easy for newbies to understand.
Well, it sure is as fair, but it's vulnerable to hopers. Also it has some added variability to reward (even though that doesn't seem to be as much of a problem with Litecoin as it is with BTC), because when a block is found very quickly you may not have a share inside of it. Anyway, I just joined another pool with PPLNS (pool-x).

Schwede65 - Part of the reason for the 10 minute updates for earnings statistics is to discourage pool hoppers
One word: PPLNS

Not too sharp yet are we?  Taken econ 101 yet?
No, that would be a waste of my time. But you obviously haven't either, otherwise you wouldn't be a SC worshiper.
The dollar isn't a proper reserve currency.[...]
Happy now?
328  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: October 28, 2011, 04:41:56 PM
I'll just leave this here:
Note use of future tense in the very last sentence.
I wonder if those intelligent people are the same who said in September "hey, 18M max coins isn't enough, let's make that infinite and premine 13M already!" and then a few days ago "wow, we're making far too many coins, we should make new blocks worth 1/7th of what they used to!" Oh, well...

Maybe one day, some currency will replace the US dollar as a reserve currency, it could even be based on crypto technology.
The dollar isn't a reserve currency. Gold is. Because it, unlike any printed or computed money, has an intrinsic value.
329  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solidcoin lost transaction on: October 28, 2011, 05:08:50 AM
Um, I agree, where is the normal BitcoinExpress?  Very odd.
+1, since he's back from his ban he seems to be CoinHunter's super-best pal. That's weird... did someone steal his account or something?
330  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: You cannot really compare SolidCoin to Bitcoin/Litecoin anymore on: October 27, 2011, 06:27:17 PM
1. Premine 13 million SC
2. Arbitrarily raise difficulty to make SC more expensive
3. Sell premined coins
4. Massive temporary profits
That's clearly the plan. The selected few (plus, to a much lesser degree, the few early miners who mined during the first 24h giveaway) take it all.
331  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can't withdraw Solidcoins on: October 27, 2011, 06:23:21 PM
At least now we know how many people the development team contains...

There's nothing inherently wrong with having only one active developer (I'm the only active developer for Litecoin).
Here's what's really bad though:
- RealSollid thinks he's a super advanced coder and thinks he can do no wrong
- he works on a closed source project by himself without any input or supervision
- he releases hasty untested buggy releases (a lot of times to patch up previous bugs)
- his project controls a lot of real money, so any transaction related bug can be devastating for users
- and lastly, users are forced to use his latest untested elease because his trusted nodes effectively rejects clients that are not on the latest client.

Really, this is just asking for trouble. Bitcoin developers spend months testing anything that could potentially be harmful to users, because they know that they are working on a critical financial software that affects millions of real dollars.
You forgot about the massive economy changes every other week Wink But yes indeed I was thinking about the combination of one-person dev "team" plus close-source thing. (= if the dev vanishes, so do the chances to carry on from where he left)
332  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solidcoin lost transaction on: October 27, 2011, 06:09:23 PM
I find is interesting/sad that people would be willing to run closed source anonymous financial software.  Some ScamCoin supporter please don't make a claim to traditional banking.  If Bank Of America steals my money I have legal rights.  They are a known entity.  I can sue them in court.  They have assets, assets they hopefully don't want to lose.

ScamCoin is backed up by no assets, no legal rights, no ability for recourse or compensation.  It is completely opaque software/network.  You simply must trust that the person in complete control never does anything wrong (either intentionally or accidentally).  That level of trust is interesting, mass suicide pack interesting.
It's all the more interesting since probably all/most TaxCoin users come from Bitcoin... How could they forget that much the reasons why they started using BTC in the first place? Alzheimer already? Just willing to go back to Paypal? (but then why not just use Paypal? It's much cheaper) Fascinating indeed.
333  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can't withdraw Solidcoins on: October 27, 2011, 05:59:51 PM
Why should he do all the other stupid things he does?
Because that's exactly what his fanboys like.
"Withdraw Solidcoins
There is currently a bug in the Solidcoin 2.01 Beta 7 (and probably 8, too) that affects the send SLC API call. The SC developer is aware of it and is working on a fix. Until then SLC withdrawals are disabled. Thanks for your patience!"
At least now we know how many people the development team contains...
334  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: We need a litecoin improvement -deflation within 6 months on: October 23, 2011, 02:34:17 PM
It is 2 separate problems that need to be fixed.  Solidcoin basically figured it out somehow.   He was able to compress the entire solidcoin 1 into 5 blocks.  So what I propose depending on difficultly, is for the software to automatically compress the deflationcoin block chain every XXX blocks.  Now I don't know whether this should be 1 block, 5 blocks, 1000 blocks, 5000 blocks.  Thus a new block chain is started and the old blockchain can be deleted, after everything is verified of course.   Now it might be possible to do this every block, thus all you have is a ledger.  So it might be possible to have a block chain less than 10 mb in size.  This would be good for smartphones.  It also may lead to speed and end indexing.  Open transaction may do something similar.
Managing to do this would be pretty neat indeed. It doesn't need to be as extreme as fitting the whole chain in 10MB, but I don't know, "archiving" blocks older than, say, 1 year would be nice.

now reaching 150Gh! congrats  Shocked
It would be nice to find a BTC block now...
336  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [115 GH][0%][Merged Mining] SIMPLECOIN.US [10BTC+500NMC Promo][Prop/PPLNS/SMPPS] on: October 17, 2011, 07:46:52 AM
Been mining PPLNS for 2 days, still not a single BTC block. Even if we found a block now that would make me earn barely 33% of what I make at deepbit (including their fee) in the same time... This pool really seems to be cursed or something, never seen it lucky :-/
337  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [70 GH][0%][Merged Mining] SIMPLECOIN.US [10BTC+500NMC Promo][Prop/PPLNS/SMPPS] on: October 15, 2011, 08:46:55 PM
The BTC blocks were in PPLNS pool. If you had valid shares, they were paid. SMPPS pool hasn't found a BTC block yet
Now that's interesting to know: the pool is already small, but on top of that there are 3 sub-pools each working independently? Not too great Sad
338  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Launched! on: October 14, 2011, 07:25:04 PM
Well, 10k blocks / 500k coins in the first day and a half of existence. Fails just as much as SC2 in that respect... Did I tell you starting diff was too low? Yes. Did you listen? Barely. Did you take action? Nope. Good job. I'll just sit on my tiny stash and see if this can eventually be worth a cent of 2...

PS: I think anyone willing to create yet another fork should meditate on, say, the first 15 lines of this: http://btcserv.net/bitcoin/history/
339  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Be ready when is launches! on: October 13, 2011, 03:42:09 AM
ETA for exchange so I can dump these ASAP. Thanks.
Just go back to mining SC2, will you? Or maybe you're one of those RS made a millionaire for free?
340  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Litecoin - a lite version of Bitcoin. Be ready when is launches! on: October 13, 2011, 03:17:40 AM
360 blocks in <20 minutes... didn't I tell you diff was too low?
