581  Other / Politics & Society / Re: GLOBAL PANDEMIC - BLESSING IN DISGUISE on: April 15, 2020, 07:04:27 PM
Bitcoin was built for exactly this scenario.

The global pandemic might just kickstart the worst recession in several generations. The fed is printing US dollars at record rate and most other fiat currencies are feeling the squeeze.

If Bitcoin can overcome its scaling woes relatively quickly, it has the potential to really take hold.
582  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Margin trading and liquidation on: April 15, 2020, 05:34:06 PM
Basically you will get liquidated if your true balance falls below the maintenance margin threshold. Most exchanges set this at about 0.5% of the total order size, or half of the maximum margin.

For example, if you've got $1,000, but you use 100x leverage to open a position of $100k, then your position will be liquidated if it falls to 0.5% of $1,000=$5.

This can happen extremely quickly while trading on leverage.
583  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Risk management , how ? on: April 14, 2020, 04:18:19 PM
Minimising risk is a factor that's in every's trader/investor's mind. After all, nobody wants to add money to a collective with increased risks of failure to generate value for that investment. So calculating the risk before entering into an agreement be it trading, bonds and other similar services is unsurprisingly very valuable and a duty everyone should comply. In my trading strategy as well as other investments I always go for a reduced risk with almost guaranteed return (i.e. interest).

However the risk management strategies used by one individual may not apply to the rest of investors like a whale or even a moderate level investor, so choosing how to manage your own is crucial to this business. Having said this there are some common strategies that people can apply but I personally only apply what I experienced.
584  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Another Exchange got hacked on: April 14, 2020, 12:31:08 PM
This hacking phenomenon, especially, for exchanges has always been in the high. This is no exception though, and unfortunately the only lesson we can all take from this unfortunate incident is that security of any online platform must be a priority and needs regular checking. As sad as it is, there will be new methods these hackers can use that's why it's imperative that safety protocol checks/updates must be done on a regular basis.

Anyway, if you want you can read more about this event here: https://www.ibtimes.com/bisq-hack-250k-worth-crypto-stolen-users-2955689
585  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do some gamblers actually win? on: April 13, 2020, 11:06:49 PM
Just like trading, most people lose because they don't understand what they are getting into. They don't understand odds and risk management, they don't understand that the odds are likely to be against them.

However, just because most lose, doesn't mean it can't be profitable. You just need to be aware that more likely than not, you're going to lose more than you win, or possibly even bankrupt yourself.
586  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is our chance on: April 13, 2020, 10:03:49 PM
And yet Bitcoin isn't ready.

The network can only achieve around 7-10 tps without relying on second-layer solutions... That's barely enough to handle the current demand, and you think it's ready to handle a potential spike?

If the entire world goes to shit right now, Bitcoin will buckle under the pressure if it somehow becauses the de-facto alternative to fiat.

Anybody disagree?
587  Economy / Exchanges / Re: "False crypto exchange traffic volume?" on: April 13, 2020, 06:34:22 PM
We cross check the volume that these exchanges are reporting versus the website traffic that they are getting . You can see it at https://www.coingecko.com/en/exchanges

An exchange with large volume and low traffic would be a negative signal

I read about "Trust Score 2.0: CoinGecko Updates" and everything is logical and understandable, but then I looked at the table. Why does the Huobi Global exchange have such a difference between the “24h Volume (Normalized)” and “24h Volume" data?

Funny you ask this since I don't think many people have noticed it. In any case, it seems that its all to do with the volume being higher than the benchmark as only then the normalisation will be applied to correct for the discrepancy between the two. This normalisation involves multiplying the volume to the traffic estimate against the benchmark, thus driving the volume downwards. You can read more about it from this source addressing the exact same issue: https://www.coindesk.com/coingecko-unveils-exchange-trust-score-to-fight-fake-volume-data

588  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is Scalping? on: April 13, 2020, 03:20:52 PM
Like many on here already pointed out, 'scalping' can be prove to be generous stream of income but only works if the market provides the favourable conditions of market volatility, which as we know it it's not an issue. The real issue, though is at the user end because to practice this strategy you need to have the time and for me the stress level isn't worth the trouble. Nonetheless, for some this can be a decent option.
589  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This is why bitcoin is unique. on: April 13, 2020, 01:59:59 PM
Bitcoin is one of the most profitable things we have because it lessens the transaction fee and this is good well to us because like if you are trying to make the transfer for over 5k dollars of bitcoin over the other wallet, it does not require too much transaction fee most of the time it consumes more or less over five dollars just a few, and this is what I like in bitcoin also you can use the bitcoin to other kinds of stuff because there are a lot of stores today accepting the use of bitcoin payment just sending the address or just scanning the barcode and immediately it is directed to their funds as payment

That's true, the scalability of BTC transactions amount to little in comparison to what it might have been using regular fiat. The fact is, that BTC isn't the only one that's unique, in my opinion, cryptocurrency in general provides us with unique ways to optimise and increase financial efficiency  Grin
590  Economy / Exchanges / Re: What is the best crypto exchange? on: April 12, 2020, 09:38:26 PM
Crypto exchange is one of the important thing when you are dealing with the cryptocurrency space. Currently, there are over 300+ crypto exchanges exist where most of the exchanges are scams and not having enough liquidity. In this case, selecting the crypto exchange is a bit confusing Huh. So, when you are going to select the crypto exchange, you have to consider some important facts such as exchange reputation, availability, fiat currency availability, KYC requirement, no of altcoin availability, etc. Here is the best cryptocurrency exchange that can be used confidently,
  • Coinbase - best for beginners
  • Cex.io - worldwide support fiat to crypto exchange
  • Binance - altcoin trading
  • Changelly - instant crypto swap
  • Bittrex
  • Kraken
  • Kucoin
  • OKEx
  • Gate.io

If you are looking to find out more details above the list, Check out the best crypto exchange to watch in 2020 where it explains exchange features, fees, and pros and cons.

I see you have Coinbase right at the top... However, if people are thinking of using this platform they should at least be made aware that the support is limited to bots responses. This has already raised concerns among some users who tried registering without success since their accounts couldn't be verified due to the lack of manpower. Just keep this in mind for the period of the lockdown Wink
591  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin current situation on: April 12, 2020, 05:24:55 PM
The last price drop of the Bitcoin price is very reasonable. As many people have said that it's because of coronavirus pandemic.

The thing is we don't know until when this pandemic will last and the more it takes time, the more people will cash out their assets because they will need more cash.

And what I can conclude so far is people who are struggling with having cash currently will lose their opportunity if the bitcoin price will increase after this pandemic is over because they won't have much money to buyback bitcoin.

So I think it's still not good if you invest your money in Bitcoin even more than 20% right now. Don't gamble on this unclear situation yet and buy Bitcoin when the situation (coronavirus pandemic) is clearly getting better.
But this is pure based on fundamental analysis, not technical.

The people who won't be able to afford living expenses during the lockdown and thus would have to cash out in order to get their hands on some cash are only the minority investors. This would mean that the overall effect of these sales won't be adding much to how the market will behave as the major investors will buy in as a result of anticipated price rise due to the halving event instead of selling.

The underling message here is once again resonates to this: people shouldn't invest if they can't afford losing their investment since by investing you pledge to the unpredictable risk of loss.
592  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Monero get delisted, again on: April 12, 2020, 02:52:10 PM
Monero get delisted once again because of low trading volume and anonymity functions on Houbi Korea exchange, why is this happening? Are people getting tired of privacy coin? Xmr is one of the top coins, what's your take about this?

https://cointelegraph.com/news/huobi-korea-delists-xmr-amid-nth-room-sexual-exploitation-case-rumors/amp

The fact, indeed is that as XML by the power of BitBay will de delisted due to its privacy concerns. As such, XML users have been advised to withdraw remaining XML by 20th May 2020 (source: https://www.coindesk.com/another-crypto-exchange-is-dropping-privacy-coin-monero-over-compliance-risk).

According to this source, the decision wasn't taken lightly but was necessary for BitBay to comply to their market standards, and this decision not only affected XML but zcash which has also been delisted. To read more on this, see link above.
593  Economy / Exchanges / Re: The WORST support ever. Meet Coinbase. on: April 12, 2020, 12:11:54 PM
With that said, FIVE documents? I would've quit after 2 failed document submissions. I wouldn't be able to stomach the fact that one single entity has hold of 5 documents of mine. In this case Coinbase sure made LocalBitcoins look like a saint LOL.

Yeah 5 documents is a huge amount to send. I remember only sending one and saying "if this doesn't get approved, I'm giving up" and it did within an hour or so.

A lot of comopanies are off and, especially if you're in Europe, expect a response when the virus is passed. The virus + gdpr means they've probably left bots to deal with everything (especially in places with lockdowns) and they probably won't be classed as an essential service in a lot of countries so will have been shut down (they might still be functioning in the UK though and outside of europe although a lot of companies use romania or india to deal with their support and if either of those are in a full lockdown both will be really slow to deal with stuff).

And yeah, from my sources san francisco wasn't allowing much movement at all.

As most comments already pointed out, from the responses you managed to get you should have picked out their repetitive pattern and incompetent support since those were probably generic responses. In your defence, however, a company where human based customer support will be completely cut off, leaving only bots in place should at least be transparent about this. In this manner, issues like this one could easily be avoided.
594  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Offline cryptocurrency transfer? on: April 11, 2020, 09:18:46 PM
Using mobile services to send and receive crypto payments isn't a new idea but one previously proposed. However, I'm not s excited about this new method of crypto payment since in my opinion it only increases the risk of loss. Think about it, with this new service there's also a new third party that you need to worry about and ensure they're not trying to scam you or have your details sold to other parties. For me its almost too of an unnecessary risk.
595  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Using Market Cap to Determine High & Low of Market on: April 11, 2020, 06:07:06 PM
Similar to the comments made already, coinmarketcap doesn't give you the true information for when to expect low/high but it does however give the user a slight indication about the supply and demand, and that in turn can be used to speculate the buying power. Though, this is not accurate and all you get is a mere speculation so traders don't often use this.
596  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Compliance exchange or decentralized exchange, which one do you prefer? on: April 10, 2020, 09:52:25 PM
For me decentralised exchanges have always worked and honestly I do not see the need to go for compliance exchanges since the risks are so much higher - at least in my opinion anyway. I just dislike the idea of sharing my account details, outsourcing has not really been my thing since I'm more wary of scams and I'd rather keep my investments as safe as I can.
597  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time Will tell on: April 10, 2020, 06:53:04 PM
From what we've seen so far there's almost no question about the future of cryptocurrency in general. This is much too of an innovative concept which solves the cause issue of the financial system like corruption and so on. Crypto is what the future needs and it matters not if that'll be BTC or some other crypto coin, so in essence time will demystify this nonsense as more and more governments will get to understand that changes come with time, and inventions are needed in order to continue humanity's course of existence.
598  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BINANCE TO LAUNCH ITS OWN MINING POOL on: April 10, 2020, 04:23:37 PM
If Binance is going to launch its own mining pool, well let's say that that it will be big. Sure, they have resources but will they have enough to keep the crypto going? Now we're not only talking about man power but computer power with better, more efficient computing power, one which is already limiting mining already? It will be interesting to first of all see if this will be the case and whether Binance will be able to maintain it  Shocked
599  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Stay away from centralized wallets on: April 10, 2020, 03:24:49 PM
There is a reason why decentralisation has gone so far and offered us so many wonderful and innovative ways to take care of our investments and capital in general. Having said this, going for centralised wallets on your decentralised investment does not makes much sense right? By doing so there is unnecessary exposure and increased risk of losing all that money - so be cautious when choosing to join the crypto industry there're many ways to get ripped off.
600  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How do you define a good exchange? on: April 09, 2020, 07:36:30 PM
For me it's very important that exchange is legal, legitimate, transparent that it doesn't have problems with liquidity and that has good customer support.
I also pay attention to rewies and possible scam accusations. Unfortunately, there are also some exchanges that are made to scam people so I'm always careful.

I couldn't agree more with the factors listed as important to you. However, in addition to these factors there are others which helps us distinguish good exchange platforms from the bad ones, and some of these includes, of course, the list of currencies it supports, exchange fees, user-friendly interface etc.

In any case, these are the some of the factors I consider when deciding which exchange platform to use.
