441  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [LTC] An (even more) optimized version of cpuminer on: June 18, 2013, 10:20:46 AM
Version 2.3.1

  • Fixed a critical bug that only made SHA-256d mining work correctly with difficulty-1 targets.
  • Fixed a compatibility issue with the Stratum implementation in P2Pool ("authentication failed").
  • Fixed a bug that only shows up with some Stratum servers (notably the one used by HHTT).
  • Added an option to specify a self-signed SSL certificate.

The source code is, as always, available at GitHub. Source tarball and binaries are available at Sourceforge.

Thanks. But with which name I must save this batch file?
cgminer is called from within the batch file. The name of the batch file itself is irrelevant.
This batch file will look like this:
Code:
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
cgminer --scrypt [all the other options here]
When you want to start cgminer, you start it by running the batch file.
443  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] The First Litecoin PPS Pool on: June 17, 2013, 05:42:23 PM
I read that but I can't understand. I am a very new miner. Sorry about my ignorance but what does it mean "are not cgminer options" and "on Windows you set them in the batch file you use to start cgminer, on two separate lines". What is the batch file? Where I must put these two commands? Is correct the config above without "GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT and GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS"?

If you don't have problems when running cgminer without having set those two environment variables I suppose you can just ignore them. I can't be totally sure because I haven't used Windows in ages.
Otherwise, make a batch file (a .bat file) where you set the two variables and then call cgminer.

Quote
On windows the same commands can be passed via a batch file if the following lines are in the .bat before starting cgminer:
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
444  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] The First Litecoin PPS Pool on: June 17, 2013, 05:27:13 PM
Thanks a lot. Is this config correct (I need advise especially for the first point of your advices):

cgminer.exe --scrypt --setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100 --setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1 -o http://litecoinpool.org:9332 -u roland.1 -p 1 -I 15 --shaders 480

No, GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT and GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS are not cgminer options. Normally on Windows you set them in the batch file you use to start cgminer, on two separate lines. This is described in the document I linked above.
445  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] The First Litecoin PPS Pool on: June 17, 2013, 04:56:40 PM
It is the first time that I mine Litecoin and I have problems with the configuration of cgminer. I used this configuration:

cgminer.exe -o http://litecoinpool.org:9332 -u workername -p password -I 7

But I have only rejected shares with the written "target-miss".

Litecoin mining requires different settings than Bitcoin mining.
All cgminer users should read this document before trying to configure their miners.
The most important points are:
  • Set GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT and GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS.
  • Set the --scrypt option.
  • Tell cgminer how many shaders your GPU has by using the --shaders option.
  • Find an appropriate intensity.
  • Make sure that no hardware errors occur (all HW figures must stay at 0).
446  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [LTC] An (even more) optimized version of cpuminer on: June 17, 2013, 11:02:15 AM
Code:
minerd -a scrypt -t1 -o http://p2pool.org:9327 -O Lc8TWMiKM7gRUrG8VB8pPNP1Yvt1SGZnoH:x -D
[2013-06-16 20:54:01] 1 miner threads started, using 'scrypt' algorithm.
[2013-06-16 20:54:03] Starting Stratum on stratum+tcp://p2pool.org:9327
[2013-06-16 20:54:04] Failed to get Stratum session id
[2013-06-16 20:54:04] Stratum difficulty set to 308.794
[2013-06-16 20:54:04] Stratum authentication failed
[2013-06-16 20:54:04] ...retry after 30 seconds

I have found the problem. P2Pool returns a result of null in response to stratum.authorize.
As far as I know, the Stratum protocol specification only defines true and false as meaningful results for that method, and this is why cpuminer 2.3 requires a result of true in response to stratum.authorize.
This should now be fixed in the git repo. The miner now only considers a result of false as an authentication error.
447  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [LTC] An (even more) optimized version of cpuminer on: June 12, 2013, 02:41:55 PM
Version 2.3

  • This version adds support for the Stratum mining protocol. The miner now recognizes URLs starting with stratum+tcp://, and can also switch from getwork to Stratum if the mining server supports the X-Stratum extension. For those who still don't know, Stratum reduces network resources consumption (only needs one TCP connection), and allows a significant reduction of the stale rate.
  • The miner should now automatically set CPU affinity on FreeBSD as it already did on Linux.
  • No speed improvements over version 2.2.3.

The source code is, as always, available at GitHub. Source tarball and binaries are available at Sourceforge (I had to switch from GitHub because they've deprecated their Downloads Tab).
Thanks to Tachikoma, we now also have a static 64-bit binary for Mac OS X.

NB: Stratum support does not render the Stratum proxy useless. You should keep using the Stratum proxy when pool mining, unless you only have one miner.
448  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [LTC] An (even more) optimized version of cpuminer on: June 02, 2013, 03:13:10 PM
Well, according this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=196196.2780

I should expect something like this:

Intel Core i7 2600K: 320 KH/s [AVX version, 4.43 GHz]

or, in a worst scenario, AT LEAST 200kh\s on scrypt-jane, mining YAC, since the 3d talks about a 4.43GHz CPU, and I'm on a 3.40GHz, as u can see.

The cpuminer discussed in this thread does not support YAC mining.
You are probably referring to ali1234's fork, which is discussed here.
449  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [LTC] An (even more) optimized version of cpuminer on: May 31, 2013, 07:18:44 AM
Q: Is there any command-line option I can play with to make cpuminer mine faster?
A: No. (But you can lower the number of threads to make it go slower.)
I'm sorry but that made me laugh. Watching a movie and playing games make it go slower too. I found turning the computer off gives the best results. Although the performance suffers but the savings in energy is wonderful.
That reminded me of the barometer question. Cheesy
Seriously, what you say is true, but is outside the scope of the question, which specifically addressed command-line options.
450  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [LTC] An (even more) optimized version of cpuminer on: May 27, 2013, 10:05:35 AM
Is this for linux users or is this something I should or need to use or try on win7?  CFLAGS = -g -O3
Those are compile-time flags.

Q: Is there any command-line option I can play with to make cpuminer mine faster?
A: No. (But you can lower the number of threads to make it go slower.)
451  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [LTC] An (even more) optimized version of cpuminer on: May 23, 2013, 10:24:08 AM
I have an error when trying to run reaper
1. You're in the wrong thread.
2. Don't use Reaper. It's obsolete, buggy and unmaintained. Use cgminer or bfgminer instead.
452  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] The First Litecoin PPS Pool on: May 22, 2013, 10:53:25 PM
Heya, pooler.

Not sure what this is about, but wondering if you would take a read and if this would involve litecoinpool at all.

Thanks.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=213592.0;topicseen

I wrote the frontend for this pool from scratch back in 2011, so the bugs in MMCFE never affected us.
I did take inspiration from Simplecoin for the GUI, but the actual code is completely different and unique.
453  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] The First Litecoin PPS Pool on: May 15, 2013, 06:24:31 PM
So, is registration going to open up, since you are no where near having %51 of the hashrate??

By the way, I haven't had much time to work on the pool in the past few days, but I do have plans to let it grow as soon as I'm done implementing a more scalable software solution for the mining backend. I just really want to make sure that reliability and performance are not sacrificed.
For now I am accepting applications (via email only please) from miners that would like to join, but I can't promise anything
454  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] The First Litecoin PPS Pool on: May 15, 2013, 06:15:36 PM
Your STRATUM just went down.
The US server had some technical issues; it's back up now.
Tip: You can configure cgminer to automatically switch to the european server if the US server goes down for whatever reason.

Share accepting but no status update on account.
Everything looks fine to me, please pm me your details if you want me to check your account.
455  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] The First Litecoin PPS Pool on: May 07, 2013, 08:28:59 AM
Down for me this morning - miners aren't connecting, proxy isn't connecting.  I see there's maint later, but it's not 11.00UTC yet...

A DDoS attack has been affecting the website and some of the miners since 1:15 AM UTC.
As usual, if your miners are still hashing you don't have to worry.

Repost from https://www.litecoinpool.org/news?id=45:

The physical servers where the pool is hosted are going to be taken offline for maintenance Tuesday, May 7th, between 11:00 and 12:00 UTC. Expected downtime is estimated at 45 minutes.

The UK server and the website will also be taken offline Thursday, May 9th, between 11:00 UTC and 12:00 UTC. This will not affect miners using the US server.

If you still haven't configured your miners to failover to one or more other pools and/or to solo mining, you are encouraged to do so now.

By the way, I haven't had much time to work on the pool in the past few days, but I do have plans to let it grow as soon as I'm done implementing a more scalable software solution for the mining backend. I just really want to make sure that reliability and performance are not sacrificed.

EDIT: The scheduled maintenance planned for May 9th has been canceled.
457  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ozco.in's unlucky LTC pool on: April 30, 2013, 02:23:00 PM
So I'm on ozcoin's litecoin mining pool. From what I understand, ltc blocks are found every 2.5 minutes and there will be 4 times more of them than btc.

So I'm really not grasping the idea as to why ozcoin's litecoin pool is often hung up on a block for 10+ hours. Is the pool just that unlucky right now?

A block every 2.5 minutes is the target average for the whole Litecoin network.
How often a given pool finds blocks depends on the pool's total hash rate.
OzCoin's current rate is about 120 MH/s, which at the current difficulty means that the probability of a block taking more than 10 hours is about 10%, or not at all improbable.
https://www.litecoinpool.org/calc?hashrate=120000&difficulty=437.9378214

It is important to keep in mind that even if a pool finds blocks less frequently because of its smaller size it doesn't mean its users are earning less, as the per-block reward will be higher. The only disadvantage (or advantage, if you're into betting) is that in the short term variance is higher, meaning that you may earn significantly more or less than expected.
458  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] The First Litecoin PPS Pool on: April 29, 2013, 10:16:57 PM
The pool is under DDoS attack.
The website or the pool?
Both.

My miner is still working away, are shares being counted?
Yes. If you manage to get through to the server despite the attack, you don't have to worry.

An instant payout button will also appear below if your balance is at least 1.00 LTC and you haven't requested a manual payment in the last 24 hours.
About the manual payout button, was it mentioned that that manual payout from 4 times in 24 hours was changed to once every 24 hours?
The limit used to be 4 payouts (including 2 automatic ones) every 24 hours; this was changed to just 1 manual payout every 24 hours because automatic payouts are now processed hourly.
