221  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Intersango switching banks, not taking UK GBP deposits until complete on: March 04, 2012, 04:54:18 PM
There was an unexpected technical hurdle which delayed metro transfers.

Currently all transfers to metro are being manually reviewed.

In the very near future funds will be available within 1 hour.
222  Economy / Marketplace / Re: BitVPS WANTS TO HELP SLUSH -- YOU CAN TOO on: March 02, 2012, 04:29:16 AM
BitVPS is an excellent VPS provider, but treating them as a secure alternative to linode without really thinking about the security considerations involved would be a bad idea.
223  Economy / Marketplace / Re: BitVPS WANTS TO HELP SLUSH -- YOU CAN TOO on: March 02, 2012, 03:14:04 AM
People should be completele aware of what they are dealing with.

BitVPS's WHMCS installation was hacked recently and user data likely compromised.

It is well known that their administrators regularly inspect users hard drives.

Look before you leap.

Newly created server will be provisioned on the new (and much faster) server.
It is _much_ faster !  Grin

Indeed, It's great now:

hdparm -tT /dev/sda

/dev/sda:
 Timing cached reads:   14934 MB in  2.00 seconds = 7475.38 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 372 MB in  3.00 seconds = 123.90 MB/sec

And even better those speeds will remain consistent even under high load.

I always get a kick out of newbies claiming I'm a big fat liar.
226  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Anyone else having problems with Intersango? on: February 23, 2012, 08:53:28 AM
Another suggestion for intersango (is there a raffle on the suggestion box Smiley

Given the depressing unreliability of Intersango's banking facilities would it not be sensible to introduce an email notification system when deposits arrive?

That's existed for quite a while now.
227  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading € on MTGox without 2.5% conversion fee? on: February 22, 2012, 10:20:11 PM
It would be highly unusual if they matched orders from several currencies.

That is precisely what they do.

Is it really written anywhere on their page or another reliable source? This
However, since the USD volume is usually higher than other currencies, trades in USD have more chance to hit another order in USD.
I have understood like "if you trade in USD you have more chance to execute the order", not that "order with EUR can be matched by order in USD".

Well I'd like to think of myself as a reliable source.

Quote
Q. Do you keep independent ask/bid tables for different currencies?
A. No, ask/bid tables for different currencies are not independent. All currencies are relative to whichever currency has the highest volume, which is based on said currencies current market price in bitcoin. Every trade is in one pool and in fact, not are not separate currency markets. This allows users the added benefit of trading in "the greater market" -in currencies they understand- while not limiting them to smaller currency markets.

For example, if a buy order for bitcoins is placed in EUR, the order can be executed against another user selling bitcoins in any currency and not necessarily only against another user selling bitcoins in EUR.

229  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Delays processing deposits and withdrawals at Intersango on: February 21, 2012, 08:00:18 PM
How many times a day do you bother sorting out deposits into your Lloyds account? In the last month I have experienced delays from just a few hours to nearly a week. Such inconsistency is really frustrating.

I had hoped that since you began charging a fee for trading, you would have got your act together. Wishful thinking unfortunately. And you still ignore your support tickets. Bitcoins are dead in the water if the number 2 player is this amateurish.  Undecided

Unfortunately most of the delays are actually caused by Lloyds.

Currently we're checking a couple of times per day,  but the situation can change from one day to the next.  For example Saturday, Sunday, and part of Monday Lloyds was not displaying any new transactions.
230  Economy / Services / Re: Vps Service Needed on: February 21, 2012, 03:00:48 AM
i recomend momentovps.com

I get much worse download rates (50bps) with momentovps' test file than MrGaSp's (600kbps).

You should definitely try that again, 50 bits per second from a 1 gbps server is absolutely not typical.

http://ns228969.ovh.net/test.bin

Here's some proof:

And this was even after some waiting to let the speeds leverage out. The download from MrGaSp's server speeds even started at ~3 mB/s, and slowly descended down to 2, then 1, then stayed at the speed above. Note that I started MrGaSp's download about half a minute after I started the download from MomentoVPS' servers though. And note that though the two downloads might 'attack each other for air', the speeds for the MomentoVPS downloads were about the same even before I started the download from MrGaSp's server.

Maybe its your location?

Most probably is, but that doesn't make the fact that I get faster speeds with your server any less true  Wink

It's almost certainly a quirk of your location.

MrGaSp is in oregon, my servers are in france.  Transatlantic bandwidth can be ridiculously slow at times.

Much worse if you're in asia where packets are routed through the us over two transcontinental fiber runs.

Can I please be allowed to post on the main boards. I've read this forum since May of last year, but I've never felt the need to post until now.

I'd like to be able to post asking some clarification of the new Intersango fees.

Hello,

You can contact us directly https://intersango.com/contact.php.

Webchat works pretty well if you stay in the channel for a while.

Thanks for that update, should be done now.

How long does it generally take for GBP to be in my bank account and spendable?
Usually 24 hours, but currently Lloyds isn't showing any transfers made after Friday.

So hopefully Monday.

Dear Intersango Customers,

I personally would like to appologize to all our users for the recent privacy lapse.

We take security and privacy very seriously and we are all very sorry for the recent failure.

Due to an oversight in which "emails" was written instead of "email" in our bulk mailer, all users emails where included in our recent announcement.

Dear Intersango Customers,

A week from now, on Sunday 26th February 00:00:00 UTC (midnight 25th), we will modify the fee schedule to reward Market Makers. This change is designed to improve liquidity.

The average fee users pay will not change.

Orders are either fulfilled right away by 'taking' a current order or they sit on the orderbook before fulfilling another order. Takers will pay an extra fee that is given to Makers as a Market Maker Bonus.

Current site-wide fees are a flat 0.65%. The Taker fee will be an extra 0.30% which is given directly to Makers.

Example:

John places an order to sell 10 BTC @ 1.0 USD. His order is not immediately matched.
Beth places an order to buy  10 BTC @ 1.0 USD. Her order is immediately matched against John's order.

John pays a fee of 10 USD * (0.65% - 0.30%) = 10 USD * 0.35% = 0.035 USD
Beth pays a fee of 10 BTC * (0.65% + 0.30%) = 10 BTC * 0.95% = 0.095 BTC

Beth's Taker-fee is given to John as a Market Maker Bonus.

New bonuses and a VIP system to be announced shortly. By developing the service to reward market makers, users will benefit from having quick access to a more liquid marketplace.

Patrick Strateman, CTO

Intersango

Compliant with our site terms of notifying users 1 week in advance for fee changes, we are announcing a new fee schedule.

236  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Delays processing deposits and withdrawals at Intersango on: February 19, 2012, 06:55:10 AM
How long would one generally have to wait for a SEPA deposit to appear?
It's been less than 48 hours since I sent the money, so I'm just curious.
2-3days is typical, but anything between 1 hour and 7 days is possible.
237  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Delays processing deposits and withdrawals at Intersango on: February 18, 2012, 09:38:31 PM
We just want to inform our users that we are currently behind processing bank deposits and withdrawals. We expect to have the backlog cleared by close of business (GMT) tomorrow.

We're very sorry for the delay.

Are Bitcoin withdrawals also delayed?
I'm asking because my Bitcoin withdrawal request is now ~20 hours in the requested state.

Update: Bitcons were sent now. It takes nearly 24 hours.

Sorry for the delay, the withdrawals daemon halted when bitcoind stopped responding.

This is only the second time in many months this has happened.
238  Economy / Services / Re: MomentoVPS - Immediately Available KVM VPS STARTING AT ~0.5 BTC on: February 17, 2012, 01:56:05 AM
The system's disk isn't able to handle the current load, I will be moving most guests to a server with an ssd on the 10th.

In the mean time I would suggest downloading the blockchain on a tmpfs to avoid the fsync calls.

Just curious, has this server move happened yet?
Newly created server will be provisioned on the new (and much faster) server.

Anybody who wants their VPS migrated can request it (note that this results in significant downtime).
239  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Intersango Exchange on: February 15, 2012, 09:38:54 AM
As Paxum is out they do need to update all their account withdrawals/deposits pages to reflect this & also they never did let me know when I might be able to withdraw my GBP funds the same day as requested if I so required, just a lame notification on the page that these things will be handled if & when their bank Lloyds starts to process their Internet banking again if ever - sorry that is not good enough when you are effectively locking down thousands in client's funds & so it certainly is not what I'd call a professional service, but hey it's Bitcoinron world & I still loves them  Kiss  for what they've done & are trying to achieve for BTC  Smiley

There is now a status board on the support page.

For anybody wondering the trouble with sending out UK bank transfer was that Lloyds online banking becomes unusable once you have a significant number of transactions within the last 3 months.
