261  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The People of www.bitinstant.com on: January 29, 2012, 12:34:42 PM
Thanks for your kind words!

People are not happy with goxes ID apostilles and want to try other options. bitinstant.com makes this process painless. Cheers!!

This is not MtGox's fault at all. They are the largest exchange and under pressure from higher authorities.

I will tell you that MtGox is the closest exchange to being completely legal in the US, UK, and Japan.

We should be thanking them

Intersango is completely legal in the UK.
262  Economy / Services / Re: MomentoVPS - Immediately Available KVM VPS STARTING AT ~0.5 BTC on: January 29, 2012, 12:32:31 PM
Looks nice, I'd buy one if I didn't just buy another VPS.
Is there no support for windows?
If you have an ISO you would like to use I can accommodate that.

If you are having trouble send an email to support@intersango.com
265  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Handmade Calligraphy Set on: January 29, 2012, 03:54:14 AM
Not really interested in buying, but do you have a higher resolution picture?
266  Economy / Services / Re: MomentoVPS on: January 26, 2012, 08:16:50 AM
As you don't list any terms and conditions, does that mean you reserve the right to randomly shut people down or that anything goes?

tl;dr no spamming, no illegal activity, i reserve the right to cancel service with a refund

That being said I probably wont.

267  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Technical Analysis & other financial markets (bitcoinbullbear.com) on: January 25, 2012, 07:21:57 PM
I know nothing of triangles as they are applied to predictions and such, but the "calm" we're experiencing is a bit unsettling.

If I had to point my finger while looking at the shiny crystal ball, I would say that the fact mtgox's verification process is becoming a bigger burden, the fact they still don't allow SEPA withdrawals along with intersango's being unable to withdraw to UK banks is leaving many people without the "cash out" option, which is the main driving force for the quick dumps imho. I know I do it every month to pay electricity, and the fact I can trade coins but can't then easily collect euros is a major issue.

FYI Intersango's UK banking has been operational since the 20th.

Edit: Feel I should add that we have a SEPA account doing deposits AND withdrawals.

Please explain how you are better than your competitors:

In short I am much cheaper than the competition.

Any plans to make withdrawals, deposits and IOC/FOK orders available through the API?

withdrawals, deposits, and IOC/FOK orders are all available through the API

currently only paxum and bitcoin withdrawals can be created through the API though

271  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Intersango still holding on to customers money on: January 20, 2012, 04:51:57 AM
Apologies about the slower than usual support tickets- this comes at an unfortunate time for us when a) we are restructuring as a company internally b) meetings with investors all this week and c) the team is in various places for various reasons. We will be hiring new support staff by the end of this month to handle more of the tickets.

I dont mean to be nosy but I'm curious.

A. How big is the company?
B. How are you going to operate profitably if you charge 0 fees and take 0% on trades? Is it all investor driven and are you open to investment opportunities?

Part of me wanting to know is because I'm reluctant to invest time and money into a trading account at a brokerage which will be here 1 day and gone the next. We've seen it happen all too often in the community.

We are the second longest operating bitcoin exchange and have no intention of closing our doors.
272  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you think Bitcoinica should switch to TradeHill? [Edited] on: January 19, 2012, 01:41:34 AM

Ok I'll bite.

Have you considered how difficult it would be for you to offer payment services?

Why would you enter the thread just to say something negative? As an adult, dont you find it inappropriate to just enter the thread to dispraise a 17 year old in his business venture... As a matter of fact, it seems like mr.Tong is the adult (for not calling you an asshole, which you clearly are) and you are the "kid".

hmmm, I did not interpret phantomcircuit's post like that at all

I thought he was just urging Z to build a portal out to the fiat economy, which we desperately need

That's precisely what I was saying, improved liquidity would benefit everybody, even those of us seemingly working at cross purposes.

However a hint of caution is necessary.

Accepting wire transfers, bitcoins, and mtgox codes is orders of magnitude simpler than other payment mechanisms.

Currently about 10% of the intersango code base is actually about exchanging bitcoins ... the rest is handling idiosyncrasies of various insane payment systems.
273  Economy / Trading Discussion / Bitcoinica and the 0.0123 bot on: January 18, 2012, 11:46:07 PM
I believe I have an explanation for the 0.0123 trades, in short they appear to tighten the spread on bitcoinica.  As we all know his algorithm has some measure of volatility, so presumably this would also apply in the opposite direction.

274  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do You Trade BTC-USD Somewhere Other Than Mt Gox, Excluding Bitcoinica on: January 18, 2012, 04:00:48 PM
CampBX, because:

  • I prefer keeping my USD in the US;
  • I want to support a small exchange because we badly need competition.

Previously I used ExchB for the same reasons.

USD on Intersango is held within the US.

276  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Britcoin / Intersango on: January 16, 2012, 04:39:06 PM
We've just talked with the bank and confirmed this is a technical glitch.

hopefully this will be resolved soon.
277  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The risk on: January 16, 2012, 04:36:14 PM
I look into buying some coin though and find the company I am about to deposit money through (Intersango) have an intermediary company set up at a residential address that they want me to send funds to, and their bank has frozen their accounts.  In fact they seem to need to change their banking arrangements every couple of months.

Intersango here.

The intermediary company is necessary not to trick the banks but due to the restrictions on who can represent a company when opening and dealing with an account.

The director of Intersango LTD does not currently reside in the UK and the shareholders are spread around the world.

The current lock on our account is due to a technical glitch which should be resolved soon.

In general the banks do not particularly like dealing with bitcoin exchanges because we move large amounts of money yet hold comparatively little and refuse nearly all attempts to clawback funds.

Basically we're exactly the wrong kind of customer for a bank.
278  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Depositing into Intersango on: January 16, 2012, 04:26:45 PM
Our account manager has confirmed that this is a technical glitch and is working on resolving the issue.
279  Economy / Trading Discussion / Intersango Paxum GBP EUR USD on: January 14, 2012, 10:24:00 AM
We now support paxum transfers in GBP EUR & USD.

Payments will be made within 5 minutes when funds are available.
280  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Intersango exchange (formerly Britcoin) on: January 13, 2012, 12:59:45 PM
The front end development has stopped but I can assure you I am still developing the backend.

The banks and other payment services find new and clever ways to break the existing setup pretty much constantly.

The first thing you suggest is a standing order, that is certainly something which could be implemented and would require little more than a cron job. (or triggers in the payments scripts)

As for specifying a specific amount of GBP to buy/sell... this is essentially impossible.  You can specify the amount you wish to buy/sell however you will almost certainly not actually be fulfilled for that exact amount.

Say you place a BUY @ 5 GBP for 100, this will almost certainly result in you spending less than 500 GBP.

We tried a wider layout but it mostly just results in data being very spread out and hard to read.  As most of the information we're displaying is lists of things I feel the current vertical layout is optimal.

(If you'd like I can create a more horizontal layout and enable it for you)

I didn't add the indication for BTC deposits mostly as a precaution against mistakes.  Doing so significantly complicates the setup for relatively little gain.
