41  Other / Beginners & Help / Balance on PC vs Android App different? on: September 07, 2012, 03:23:36 AM
Evening,

I am posting this in the newbie area cause it may be a very newbie question.

I sent 10 coins to another online wallet through the normal BitCoin Wallet program that you download from the website.  I set it up to charge the 0.01 fee and it shows that 10.01 coins were sent to the address.

Now I have a App on my android phone called Wallet Balance.  It shows that 14.0 coins was sent, but what is odder still is my PC shows a balance of 20.2 Coins and the Android App shows 14.17 Coins.

It has been 48 hours and I believe the main PC total is correct, but if both are grabbing the same info, does anyone know why it could be so off?

It does show the transaction, but the totals are off. (both sent and remaining balance)

Could this just be a bug in the app or am I missing something else?

As always, thanks for the advice in advance.

Does anybody still sell those open-air frames?  I'm thinking about building a new game system, but all the McATX boxes look the same and dumb.

The DIY would obv be cheaper, but Chomiczewski's are much more expensive.

I have one of the Chomiczewski frames, but modified to fit my needs.

I can tell you that though they are little on the pricey side, they are well worth it.  Clean Cuts, plenty of parts and even send you the tools that you need to put it all together.  I did price out to make it myself, and the metal would cost about the same by the time you added in shipping.

Overall, very impressed with his product.

43  Economy / Speculation / What do you think will happen in the next 4 Months??!?? on: August 07, 2012, 11:21:25 PM
I have been sitting and looking at how bitcoin has expanded in the course of the last 8 months and I have watched it grow and watch the bubble pop.  I have seen technology grow and the user base grow.  I have seen people embrace bitcoin and I have seen people take advantage of it and its users.

I know that there maybe a few dozen posts on this, but I wanted to get my 2 cents out there and see if someone can give me another perspective on my train of though.

So what does everyone thing what will happen in the next 4 months??

  • We have the reward block coming soon, that will halve the coins per block from 50 to 25
  • Butterfly Labs will be releasing their new system on or about Oct.
  • With that new hardware, I believe that the difficulty will spike quickly.  Do you think it will increase Ten, Fifty, Hundred Fold or will casual users give up and make the difficulty go back down?
  • Will the price of coins adjust higher to reflect the lower coins per block and this new difficulty

Do think think that bitcoin will hits its peak in the new year and fail or will it wane and then come back stronger?

44  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: AMD OverClock Auto-Start in Bamt on: July 16, 2012, 04:54:59 PM
Have you considered just BIOS flashing the cards?

Never considered it, but these are asustek 5850s, so they don't have the bios switch.  I'm little shy of flashing the BIOS and bricking them.

I though that having amd overdrive auto-start would be simplist answer.  Computer boots, loads amd overdrive, overclock set, rig starts mineing.

Is there something I'm not seeing?
45  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / AMD OverClock Auto-Start in Bamt on: July 16, 2012, 02:49:57 AM
I'm working on my second rig, and I am going through a lot more detailed then the first one.

I realized that the AMD Overclocker that is used to overclock the cards has a "auto-start" option when you click on it when its on the loader bar, but when I go to engage it, it give me a error saying that a file/directory is not found.  It is looking for amdoverdrivectrl.desktop, i just don't remember what directory it is look for it.  I believe I have it set up that the default setting is overclocked, just need the program to start up at boot.

I would like to get this set up as 100% headless.  My first rig has a monitor hooked up in case I lose power and have to restart it and set the overclock.

Any help in getting this to auto-start at power-up would be extremely helpful.

Thanks in advance as always.

@ elrodvoss You'd be better off getting a BFL jalapeno if you can wait for it as it's much cheaper for much better hash power with next to no power use (same power as a USB hard drive). If you do need extra power now a BFL single isn't a bad choice.Thing is you can flash the BFLs with higher performing firmware so you could get just under 900MHash/s now.I'll be waiting to get my Jalapeno once I get a chance to pre-order it in time for october.

My orginial plan was to get three rigs working with 5850s and use them to generate income for upgrade.  I saw the info on the jalapeno and have been reading up on ButterFly Labs.

If I remember correctly, the Jalapeno gets 3.5 GigaHash at a cost of $150.  That seems a little out there for me, but I dont firmly grasp how ASIC would obtain this, so I am not going to say they are blowing smoke.  Its more the fact that its a HUGE game changer and im waiting to see how it plays out.

I am interested in the Bitforce singles, but even then 850 M/Hash for $600, 4x the cost for almost 6x less performance.

All said, I am intrested to see how this all pans out and very interested to see Bitcoin get this attention and continue to grow.

I think that I will be going some direction in the next 2-3 month like everyone else.

Again, thanks for the advice.
47  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Maximum Mhash/s for 6950? on: June 26, 2012, 01:42:24 AM
Dont mean to hijack this, but it is kinda on topic.

I currently have four 5850s and they are getting about 370 Mhash/s each, but to find them I have to dig on ebay and spend around $150-$180 for each.

I found a site that offers new Powercolor 6950 for about $140, but the site makes me nervous.  Im almost 100% they are shipped from overseas, but I dont know if this is a "too goo to be true" deal or not.  http://xavier.audiogoshop.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3272

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

That seems pretty low to me for new cards. I'd be much more comfortable dealing with members here who are selling used equipment, and you can sometimes get deals better than ebay if you watch the marketplace section regularly. Although if you do end up trying that site, I'd be curious to know how the transaction goes.

I did a little digging on the site, and there are too many red flags.  Reports of problems, typos on the page, changes in payment.

I think for now, im just going to stick with the 5850s and find 8 more to fill out my other 2 motherboards.  After that I will be working on getting some FPGAs like the Bitforce Single.  If it is able to get 850 hash for $600, and use 1/10 of the power that one rig uses, that will have to be the way to go.

I spend almost 40% on power costs to run these rigs and that is assuming $6.00/Bitcoin.  The Bitforce would be a 6% power cost

Again sorry for the hi-jacking, but thanks for listening.

48  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [Math] Need an equation of block solving expectation on: June 22, 2012, 05:13:18 AM
Think I answered my own question:

time = difficulty * 2**32 / hashrate

But what does 2**32 stand for?

i understand that when I enter it into excel it would be

=sum difficulty *2??32/hashrate

I don't understand what the 2**32 equals, but I assume that number is times the difficulty and then divided by the hashrate

49  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [Math] Need an equation of block solving expectation on: June 22, 2012, 05:06:01 AM
I saw this and I was hoping that someone could help me figure out the math.

What I want to do in a excel file is enter in the Difficulty and Mhash/sec and give me the coins per day.

from that I should be able to add on any other figure, just need the basic math for difficulty/mhash.

Thanks in advance

51  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Setting BAMT Rig to static IP address on: June 17, 2012, 10:58:35 PM
Afternoon everyone,

After last night we had a few huge thunderstorms roll through and we lost power for a few minutes.  No damage was done, but I have noticed a little issue with my rig.  It is set up that I can view my status page via port forwarding on my router, but it seems that the rig likes to change its IP address when ever I have to shut it down or it loses power.

Its not a huge problem, but with getting more rigs, it will be a pain to change the routers settings for 6+ rigs each time I have a power outage or have to fix one of them.

Is there a way to set each rig to its same IP address that it assigns its self too each time?

Thanks in advance for the help as always.

What is the "length" restriction of a PCI-e extension cable anyways?

53  Other / Beginners & Help / Android Bitcoin App that uses Current Wallet on: June 03, 2012, 02:14:42 PM
Morning everyone,

I have a HTC Evo 3D 4G and I have several apps that i use for Bitcoin (actually have one whole page for them), but I have never found a Bitcoin program that I could use that I could send coins from one of my existing wallets.  They all create a new wallet address and seem to have no way of "importing" a wallet.

Is this a limitation or a security issue?  I would like to be able to sell/use coins from my wallet as needed when I'm using my android devices.

Thanks

54  Other / Beginners & Help / BAMT Card Settings Issue on RebootAMT config on: May 28, 2012, 03:30:25 AM
Evening everyone,

I have not had this come up too often on my end, but it may be an issue when I get more rigs going.

When ever I reboot my rig, I always have to go into the AMD/ATI Overclock program and reset the profile to HIGH.  If I dont, the first video card always runs at default settings, regardless of the setting setup in the BAMT config file.

Once I set the profile to HIGH, then everything is back to normal.

Is there a way to have this program auto start and default to HIGH or is there another issue?

Thanks in advance.
55  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wireless Adapter to use with BaMT? on: May 12, 2012, 01:35:40 PM
ASUS WL-167G worked fine with linux, but not work with BAMT

Thank you!  This is what im looking for.  I can find LINUX adapters very easily, but not all will work with BaMT.

So please, who has experience with wireless adapters and BaMT and can suggest one that is known to work with BaMT.
56  Other / Beginners & Help / Wireless Adapter to use with BaMT? on: May 12, 2012, 02:16:40 AM
Can anyone give me a suggestion and link of a wireless adapter that has been proven to work with BaMT?

I have seen a few on newegg and amazon that will work with linux, but I am unsure if they will work with BaMT.

Any help would be greatful.

I would prefer to use a wired connection, but due to power issues I have to have computer in separate rooms till I get a sub-panel installed.  So need wireless at least for the short term.

Thanks.
57  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BAMT not working with 2 5850's on: May 11, 2012, 12:31:52 AM
Are you using the most current version of BaMT?  I have mine running with 3 Sapphire extreme 5850s.

I can throw you my config file if you want.

I can even MSG you my status page if you want so see what im running at right now.

That sounds fine. I like BAMT so much I wouldn't want you to miss out. Send over your config.

No, i was offering to help the OP with his issue.  Im new to Bamt, but I have a grasp on how to use it.

I currently have three 5850s running on one BaMT rig, and working to load it up with 2 more 5850s.

Then have 2 more motherboards just waiting for some powercolor 6850s that I "hope" i found cheap.

Should be cheaper then the 5850s, same power usage, and slightly better limit to max Mhash.

59  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: can anything beat 5850's for $149 purely on Mh/$ on: April 09, 2012, 10:22:31 PM
hi , i think 5850 are the best in Mhash to usd ratio , and watts are about 180w , i have them 4 in one comp on gigabyte ud7 and stable running on corsair 950w psu with sempron 140 and 1 gig ram on board, so buying bigger psu is wasting of money,

If I may ask, what are you getting for hash rate on each card?
