501  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [RFC] Bitcoin Payment URI scheme on: March 30, 2011, 11:14:14 AM
I would argue that URI scheme must be as simple as possible and all data must be represented in a way which is bit machine and human readable. I would also argue that "?amount=20.3X8&label=Luke-Jr" is not easily human readable.
This syntax is really awful... and the amount format... no comment.
We don't need such a complicated one... I only see it as an ego valorization for the creators.

Adding variable names in uri : why not, if we need to extend the rfc later (for example, if comments are not included in the blockchain but manageable by a bitcoin plugin, we would need a way to say it to the bitcoin client. We may need to add a server name too), it will be needed.

bitcoin:// or bitcoin:
- bitcoin:// : more readable by humain (better separation)
- bitcoin: : used for mailto:, more standard

So, should we prefer a more readable syntax or a more standard one ? (excepting for the amount, i insist...)
502  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BitcoinBox project - Your own remote bitcoin [web client for phone or bitcoind] on: March 29, 2011, 06:06:18 PM
mybitcoin does not propose a dedicated bitcoind daemon for each user i guess (a common wallet is used ?), and does not propose access to the bitcoind rpc calls and its dedicated wallet.

This solution relies fully on the bitcoin network and protocol and its advantages in term of security and use real bitcoins transactions.
Also, you have more options than just a web interface if you need more "control".
503  Bitcoin / Project Development / BitcoinBox project - Your own remote bitcoind and web client for phone on: March 29, 2011, 05:38:18 PM
Currently, this is just an idea to see if some people are interested.

Concept :
A bitcoin bank which would allow you to access your bitcoins from everwhere and to transfer them to a merchant and to/from your home bitcoin wallet.

Functions :
- a bitcoin backup account
- a bitcoin available from everywhere you have internet to pay

2 main services would we provided :
- a remote bitcoind for full control over your distant wallet
- a web interface to manage your wallet from everywhere you have an internet access (iphone, android, etc) (ssl with js-remote for example)

Thoses services would be usefull for people who :
- don't wan't to run their own bitcoind all the time on their home computer
- wan't a simple access to bitcoin from everywhere

Some variants would be available with differents prices :
- a dedicated virtual machine for full security
- a shared machine with your own bitcoind instance
- and your dedicated ip (or not) to allow full bitcoind connections on port 8332 and standard https port for web interface

Are your interested in such a service ?
How many bitcoin would you put on it (and for which variant) ?
504  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Remove "generate bitcoins" from standard client? on: March 29, 2011, 11:27:09 AM
In case of network hashing attack, having a miner available from the default client that can (be) activate(d) in case of need may be usefull.
Even if hash rate is small, multiply it by all bitcoin users in the world, that are using bitcoin like a money and not for mining, and i guess it is significant.
Miner could be CPU or GPU, be i think there should be one available simply, whatever name it has, integrated or binary independant.

I believe in Bitcoin but I can't contribute to this project with reviewing or writing code, because I simply can't program.  Wink
So I simply do what I can, and that is spreading the word, and because a picture says more than thousand words, I made some graphics.

You can use them freely for whatever you want, ofcourse if you use them or like them, a donation is always welcome (1MifMqtqqwMMAbb6zr8u6qEzWqq3CQeGUr)  Grin
507  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A block chain for real-time confirmations on: March 11, 2011, 08:33:08 PM
It's a security protection.

If you want a real time confirmation, patch the client to check if the sender really have coins (it may already do this). Once it's done, you don't need to really wait for inclusion in 6 blocks, or even in 1 block (but a transaction can currently be ignored by all blocks and forgotten, or depends on another transaction still not included, so 1 block may be a minimum of security)
508  Economy / Economics / Re: WTH? why a sudden drop by 10 cents? on: March 10, 2011, 12:13:09 PM
I explain it with a box with to 2 doors at opposite side and 2 differents keys.
If you put something in the box with the first key, only the second key can get it, and vice-versa.
Everbody can have several boxes.

Now, imagine it's not keys, but pin code or passwords, and 1 of the 2 is known to everbody.
- Everbody can insert things in the box, and only you can retreive them with the second code.
- You can put things in the box, and everbody has your public code to get it and they know it comes from you, brcause they use your public code.
509  Economy / Economics / Re: WTH? why a sudden drop by 10 cents? on: March 10, 2011, 11:32:24 AM
What about being non-physical?
It could be, like any other currency. Maybe by local initiatives first, and less probable, but still possible, by some countries.
But, who cares ?

Difficult to understand how it works for non-geeks?
- How does it cost ?
- What is your account/bitcoin address ?
=> send

All the other things aren't needed. You know it is secure because the official website says it is and geeks and first users and press say it too, but you are not forced to read the whole wiki pages nor the source code.

Prone to attack by any large entity?
Like anything on internet (like paypal and mastercard recently ?).

Non-official (possibility of being delegalized)?
Yes, there is dumb government everywhere...

That payments aren't and never will be instant (so for instant payments you will need a Paypal-like entity with fees and bullshit)?
If you really need instant payment, on internet, current solution is to use a bank/centralised account for both sender and receiver (just change balance of both users and a real bitcoin transaction is not needed, but still possible to still rely on the secured transaction system of bitcoin)

Dont forget this command to go to the desired terminal :
Quote
Ctrl-A <0 to 9>

And :
Quote
Ctrl-A A
to switch between last terminal and current (like alt-tab)

That's all for today :p
Tu peux forker mon site "eurobitcoin".  C'est un script CGI dont les sources sont publiques.
Tout est en erreur 500 pour l'instant (les cgi en tout cas), donc pas facile de voir à quoi ça ressemble :p
515  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Cooperative mining (90Ghash/s) on: March 07, 2011, 09:14:26 PM
Here is the file i use to follow in real time and day by day my rewards.
There is one file for people who use comma (fr) separated numbers and another for dot numbers (stupid, but openoffice does not accept both formats).

Simply copy/paste your block history in the 'datasrc' sheet and display the first sheet.
If you need older results, you can use http://mining.bitcoin.cz/stats/?history=100 or even http://mining.bitcoin.cz/stats/?history=1000

Here's the result :

ps : the forum does not accept .7z files... someone to add it to the config ?
pps : upload dir is full, so, here is the file : http://dl.free.fr/aBDMNch6e
516  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Poll: What are your Bitcoin Client Feature Request / wishlist? on: March 07, 2011, 06:51:52 PM
There's a nice program called monit which does this sort of thing. It's already in your package manager; go get it.
There are so much tools available... not possible to know all of them.
But thanks for the info, i'll take a look next time i need :p [its name is easy to remember, it should be ok Cheesy]
517  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Poll: What are your Bitcoin Client Feature Request / wishlist? on: March 07, 2011, 06:19:11 PM
I have noticed instances of various automated Bitcoin based services being interrupted by the client hanging or crashing... Is is possible to easily 'ping' a client so as to assess its health? Something like a watchdog timer that could trigger an action like restarting the client or alerting an admin...
The system/OS should manage that, otherwise, the client will become a bloatware...

You can do it like that under linux (i use that for my miners) :
Code:
while true; do bitcoind --params; done

And if you want to receive a mail after a crash :
Code:
while true; do bitcoind --params; echo -e "body\n\n" | mail admin@bitcoin-contact.org -s "Bitcoin crash..."; done
518  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: questions about accepting bitcoins in my website on: March 07, 2011, 12:49:56 PM
It's a feature. You can't see the from address in the bitcoin client.
So, you have to generate an address for each payment and associate it whith your customer account.

You can see them manually on blockexplorer.com
519  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: OpenCL with intel cpu possible ? on: March 06, 2011, 04:56:21 PM
I trid with some native windows dll, but nothing better (i don't have a windows installation).

I finally switched to this sse2 miner under linux, which works really fast :p

ps : wine is not an emulator, so, if it works, the loss of speed is not really significant.
520  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining with GMA HD? on: March 05, 2011, 06:35:52 PM
I found that recently, but only cpu support for now :
