141  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Report Against CryptoXchange $100k USD on: June 08, 2012, 04:17:38 AM
Let us keep in mind he sent in AML documents, CX is claiming they are fake. If the documents are not fake it is a different story.

Believe he also claims to have lawyer as well which if the case the lawyer would be taking care of this matter and he would not be posting on a forum trying to get "his" cash back. As well just about every time the crypto people post they ask for said documents yet he fails to provide any updated ones, you would think his lawyer would be doing that and the crypto people would not have to be asking repeatedly for them. In short I think this is a thinly veiled attempt to pressure the crypto people by putting out false information about them so they will just give him the money to shut him up, well I don't think that will turn out to be a winning strategy for him.

If the OP believes that a crime has been committed, then he needs to report it to Australian law enforcement.  You can't bring your own criminal lawyer to prosecute a criminal case.

You can indeed do that in a common law country which Australia is.

Quote
The court attendance notice must first be signed by a registrar and the registrar cannot sign the notice if a) the notice does not disclose the grounds for the proceedings; b) it is not in the form required; or c) the rules provide that it should not be issued.

The Local Court Rules provide that a registrar must not sign a court attendance notice for a private prosecution if they believe the proceedings are “frivolous, vexatious, without substance or have no reasonable prospects of success”.

Do you really think that a complaint which is essentially "they won't release my money because I refuse to identify myself as requested under AML/KYC requirements" is going to be found to 1) have substance or 2) have a reasonable prospect of success?

Even assuming that a court didn't outright dismiss the proceedings, they can be terminated by the Attorney-General or taken over by the DPP.

I would honestly like very much to see one of these cases go to court, just as I'd like to see alleged Bitcoin thefts investigated by traditional law enforcement agencies.  The reality seems to be that those who complain the loudest avoid these options because they don't want to be subjected to independent scrutiny which they can't control.

No I don't think this clown has any chance that is not what I replied to it was your assertion that you could not bring a criminal case on your own when you can do it.

I'm beginning to think there needs to be an "AML/KYC and You" sticky at the top of this forum.

Agreed these people around here seem to think they are immune from them laws well hate to break it to them they are not and BTW the taxman wants to know what your up to as well..
145  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Report Against CryptoXchange $100k USD on: June 07, 2012, 10:49:31 PM
will see how it ends. very curious what kind of documents he provide

We can already see how it is going to end he is not getting the money, it has been at least a month now that he has been on this thing all the time not providing the required docs and I don't see him changing course anytime soon after continuing on this path all along. He seems to think that by going down this route of making BS posts to try and hurt their reputation will get him somewhere, well that only works when you have right on your side and have done the correct things necessary to get done what needs to be done in the proper manner. Only then do you have the chance to get it done, may not always work if the people your dealing with are a piece of shit but until you get there having done it all according to the proper procedures you will never know.
146  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Report Against CryptoXchange $100k USD on: June 07, 2012, 10:32:00 PM
yea but so far he didn't send any aml doc, that doesn;t mean he is a scammer.
for 20k he can pay a con artist and send as many aml documents crypto guys want. i think there is something more there with that exchange.

Yes like the one reply I read in one of these topics on this subject where I seen the crypto guys say his faked documents were worthless as proof or the other reply by him where he said he got the coins from a third party. So there is more here than meets the eye who knows where the truth is but I would put my money on this idiot being in the wrong more than the reverse being true..
147  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Report Against CryptoXchange $100k USD on: June 07, 2012, 10:15:49 PM
true on that. but how come the cryptoxc guys didn't pay him the money back?
yes lets say he is a scammer but that doesn't mean the cryptoxc guys should keep the money right?

On a transaction of this size they need to know who the money is going to to report for AML purposes this transaction has not one hope in hell of ever going through without that confirmation. And I know if someone had $100k of my money and all I had to do to get it was provide the proper docs well as soon as humanly possible I would have it in their hands. Oh and nowhere have I seen the crypto guys say they will not give the money to him only he has to provide the proper documents to get it.
148  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Scam Report Against CryptoXchange $100k USD on: June 07, 2012, 10:04:23 PM
i think there is something fishy on both sides.
the customer didn't provide the aml doc
exchanger was happy with that and keep the money

Don't know how you came to that conclusion I have seen the crypto people on numerous occasions tell this fool to provide the proper documents if he wants his money so far he has not complied. So sorry about his scammer luck he obviously does not to reveal his true identity so his scam is done with for now..

edit2: 2+ hours per box with special tools. there are hundreds of boxes.

Pretty sure a thief is not going to be concerned about the box being available for re-use so would be quicker in his/her method.

There will be far too much work simply to hand this away to our competitors.

I think most would be fine with that as long as it is not the same stupid idea behind the endertyrell bitstream of a central server that everything has to go through to use. Where you get to enjoy looking at your expensive paper weight when the inevitable downtime/DDOS against it happens.
151  Other / Off-topic / Re: BFL Singles and CGMiner 2.4.1 on: June 05, 2012, 10:07:18 PM

Anyone have issue where all connected singles drop out of CGMiner after many hours of operation?  Restart of cgminer works fine.

Win7 32 bit.

[2012-06-05 17:53:47] Error writing to BitForce ("ZFX")
 [2012-06-05 17:53:47] BFL 0 failure, disabling!

Already being discussed in the official cgminer thread as I do believe I have seen mention of this in the last couple of days in it.

  • Mining company issues 1000 BTC of bonds, equivalent to 33.3 GH/s of mining capacity (0.3 BTC per MH/s)

Math fail, which is all to common around here, that would be ~10,000 BTC as 1gh/s would be 300 BTC (1000mh/s *.3).

Found it, thank you so much.  I love the command line, I forgot about that find command.  Worked like a charm.

In case anyone else has this issue, ... do you remember which directory it was in?

The Bitcoin in the Application Support you list first above.

By then there will be all sorts of new crypto currencies, so who knows if Bitcoin will still be the primary digital currency for daily exchanges.

Most likely if history is any indication it usually is never the first mover to the market that maintains the dominant position unless backed by government methods of intervention like patents, mandating their use, that type of thing so as you say who knows.

Well, if history is any REAL indication, most people are idiots mindless sheep, and once this crypto-currency thing takes off, the Government along with the lending institutions (banks and credit card companies) will release their own digital currency, and the un-informed masses will flock to it like moths to a flame.
Meanwhile, a strong corporate funded campaign will be launched to smear crypto-currency as a tool for terrorists ,drug dealers and child pornographers.
Again, the brain washed masses will pat themselves on the back for calling you in, and the scum continue to rule our lives.

Man, talk about jaded.

True enough you left out not just the implication of criminal activity but the inevitable ban on btc that would come to make it a criminal activity brought to you by the same actors you list here.

Edit: And now I think of it in addition to kano's link the Royal Canadian Mint is going with their own digital currency as well already so the competition is coming.

Yeah, I can.

How do you ship a guitar overseas? I have a 2008 Gibson SG Standard that I'd like to sell and I am sacred to ship it.

Well I would go with hard shell case in well packed box and you should be good.

And that server will be DDOS-ed instantly....

Yeah, like any other pool server. But even if pools are centralized, they're still up and hashing.

And with a good miner software you will never notice the DDOS as it will go to your backup pool(s) just about the instant it happens here you get screwed when your only means of delivering your shares is gone..

You have to keep in mind that the 21 million BTC limit was a purely experimental value. In hindsight it is way too low to be used as a world-wide currency, which is why you need a much higher limit if you intend of having one that people will use on a daily basis.

That is a whole number bias if .00000001 btc were worth $1 then those 1 btc are now $10M multiply that by 21M and you have hell of a big number more than enough to run the world on..

I think you're overestimating the general populace if you assume they're above "whole number bias".
Although, you could mask the decimal in the transaction software by simply calling 0.00000001 BTC as a whole unit of something else (like the satoshi or whatever), where you will eventually run into the issue of the lowest possible transaction, the way the dollar currency is limited to a minimum 1 cent transaction.

Let me try and work this muddle of zeros out into words.

21,000,000.00000000 can be divided into 2,100,000,000,000,000 whole units. That's 2.1 quadrillion, or 2100 trillion, or 2.1 million billion. In which case you're probably right, that seems enough to run the world on.

Even if you account for the lowest possible transaction being 1 cent instead of 1 Dollar, you now have 21 trillion individual units, each divisible into "cents".

If anything this "software mask" would paint Litecoin into a rather useless corner. And if Bitcoin institutions allow for instant transactions, the 2.5 minute blocks will do nothing better, except bloat the block chain history.

Puzzling  Undecided

Is 2100 trillion really enough? If the GDP of the US was 15 Trillion dollars last year, and each of those dollars is divisible by 100 cents, that's a lot of 'units' (more zero's then I care to write).

Wikipedia says the total money supply in circulation of the world was 4 trillion in 2008 which had doubled from 2 trillion only 6 years prior (and had doubled from only 1 trillion 12 years before that). They don't mention the current estimated money in circulation, one could perhaps guess that it's up to 8 trillion depending on how the recession has panned out.

Maybe our incredibly large number won't stay so incredibly large for as long as we might think.

You cannot inflate btc like you can with money those dollars are fake made up from thin air ie. they just turned the printing presses on nothing backs them. Now you can say nothing backs btc either but one thing you can be certain of is no more than 21M of them will be produced no printing press to turn on here to get more.
