541  Economy / Speculation / Re: China just made Bitcoin pretty useless within China on: December 07, 2013, 12:09:39 AM
Well, my business partner in China read the article and got back to me.

Here is a direct quote from a Chinese business man in China

"That is Remind dangerous  only. No constraints  .so btc is ok for china "
542  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: We invite you to visit a project BitMonica.com on: December 05, 2013, 08:29:49 PM
I'm desperate and I believe everything.  Guess I'll put in 100BTC.  But where do the BTC go when I deposit?  Bitcoind isn't running on the server, what is?  Oh ya, MAGIC.
543  Economy / Currency exchange / Selling 0.6 BTC NW burbs of Chicago on: December 05, 2013, 05:42:52 PM
Need some Christmas shopping money Smiley

I'd like to meet and trade in person somewhere with wifi in the NW burbs.  Waiting to hear back from a couple people who I've already dealt with, but feel free to PM me if you are around here and want to buy a little
544  Other / Meta / Re: BREAKING: BITCOINTALK MODS CENSOR HONEST NEGATIVE NEWS ABOUT BITCOIN on: December 05, 2013, 05:30:22 PM
Discards 'china bans bitcoin' (even tho its true, its a ban): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=358453.0

Keeps 'china doesnt ban bitcoin' (the real fud, trying to convince naive people nothing bad is going on): https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=358368.0

obvious censorship going on here, almost china-like I would say

Well, China didn't "ban bitcoin". They are just trying to regulate it somehow.

"The PBOC will require trading platforms that deal in virtual currencies such as bitcoin to register with telecommunications authorities, it said.

The central bank did allow that ordinary individuals were free to use bitcoin, so long as they take on the risk themselves."

That doesn't look like a ban to me, although they banned it from financial institutions, that's true and useless like banning someone from helping it's competitors.

Exactly
545  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Miners on craigslist / ebay, How to spot scammers on: December 05, 2013, 04:46:28 PM
I just bought two Jupiters through a local friend for a decent price, but I'm looking to buy 1-2 more this week. The only places I can find them for sale are eBay and Craiglist, but I'm sketched out by all the scammers. When looking through adds, what are the main signs of a scammer, or signs that it's authentic??

I'd stay away from anyone using a stock photo for one.
Anyone on CL not willing to meet in person is a scammer, I mean why post locally then not want or be able to meet?

This reddit "translation" contradicts itself.  More of an opinion on the notice than a real translation really.

Anyone have the original, Chinese notice handy before I go looking for it?

Thanks, sent it to my partner in SZ in case he didn't see it yet.  Can't wait to see what an actual Chinese person thinks of it.

548  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Is there a client that connects to remote bitcoind? on: November 23, 2013, 04:24:21 PM
Thanks guys.  I think I'll try the bitcoind locally.  Didn't even know you could do that, everything google showed me was a bunch of people asking if bitcoinqt supported this, and that answer is no.

Spesmilo was great for this, I can't believe no client since has this capability.
549  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Is there a client that connects to remote bitcoind? on: November 22, 2013, 11:31:40 PM
I have bitcoind -daemon running on a webserver, everything is working fine and I can control it from the server but I can't wrap my head around json-rpc, I read some about it and it seems like some command line arguments, I guess I can learn it but in pursuit of laziness I'd just like to connect via a client.  Basically, I just want to check the balance, not even send anything.

Maybe 2 years ago I used spesmilo to do what I wanted, but it doesn't work after .8x something.  It was so nice and easy.
Tried bitcoin-js-remote, followed to the letter but my w8 PC doesn't like it, I think it's a java thing since nothing is clickable, doesn't work in my browser at all.

So is there any clients around that allow this or do I have to just learn about json-rpc?

I don't know what the confusion or guessing is all about?  Huh

The picture he posted is IN the ASICMiner Powerpoint that 01BTC10 linked!  Of course they're Blades - why would ASICMiner be putting anything else in their presentation?  Huh

Well, not everyone saw that powerpoint, I sure didn't.  Now you know...
551  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buy Bitcoin at Chicago on: November 07, 2013, 11:55:04 PM
Probably not then.

Southside here.  Most of my transactions have been in the area bounded by DeKalb, Elmhurst, Tinley Park, and Ottowa.

I think I've only engaged in a total of 2 transactions north of Interstate 290, and neither of them had enough experience or knowledge about bitcoins to have a 742 Activity here.

Hey just because I don't post a lot doesn't mean I don't know a lot. Smiley

Huh

What does that have to do with this conversation?

I never claimed that you didn't know a lot.

Ha Danny, I was just trolling, that's why I put a smiley face Smiley  I saw the opportunity so I took it.  (I must be the 3rd guy north of 290)

Sorry, sarcasm doesn't work well on the internet.  No offense taken and none given.  In fact, if anyone needs a reference to bitcoin dealings in the area just call on me.

552  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buy Bitcoin at Chicago on: November 07, 2013, 07:16:24 PM
Heh... i was thinking the same thing.. I've had pretty good luck buying/selling on locabitcoins

I've done quite a few exchanges here in Chicago over the past 6 months.  I can't help but wonder if I've exchanged cash/bitcoins with you at all.

Could be Wink  I'm a Northsider

Probably not then.

553  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Inputs.io Is Gone I'm Calling It A Scam on: November 07, 2013, 03:47:58 PM
To all the people bashing those who have webwallets - the reason i have a web wallet is because probably 7 months ago I managed to get a virus which stole my private key from my local wallet. Lucky for me there wasn't much coin to be stolen but none the less i learned that no matter how good you think you are with computers people always make mistakes. I was stupid.  I personally feel my bitcoin is more secure on a web wallet (like blockchain.info) then on my computer. Obviously cold storage is your best bet but annoying to access funds.

So if you had all your BTC on inputs you just got taken for the 2nd time ( you didn't say you did ).  If anyone should realize how important your last sentence is, it should be you.

People keep their fiat currency safe, but when it comes to BTC most are just lazy.  Web wallets will always be around, and they will always be hacked.  This situation isn't going to change anything, most people don't learn from others past mistakes; they just think, "Oh, that sucks, good thing that could never happen to me."

Fun game.  My lightweight (cheap) laptop lagged a bit when playing, it was pretty heavy on the cpu, firefox using just under 50% of cpu when site is open.  But this laptop is really just for browsing the internet while traveling.

tl:dr, is the animation just for fun?  Like the outcome is predetermined as soon as a bet is accepted?

Firefox on linux (current and last few versions) is known to be extremely bad to render canvas animation (which we use). If it is your OS/browser, try with chrome for instance and it should be perfectly smooth. If not, well, that's your laptop Smiley

The outcome is determined as soon as a bet is accepted, yes. But the player doesn't know it and learn through the animation, so it does not make any difference to him/her.

I'm on W8 actually.  Tried chrome but seems to use more resources than FF. It's probably the laptop Smiley  I got this and a pair of $300 bose headphones for only like 88k airline miles.  My other laptop (W7) should run it just fine.  Don't even need the page open to play anyway.

It's nice to see something new and simple, instead of the 400th dice site.  Good job.

One thing I'd like to see would be an odds table, instead of only a formula.  Don't always feel like doing math.  Maybe once the 100.3% promo is over?

This look old

I would guess AsicMiner blades.

Nice find.  If they are 10 GH/s that setup adds up.

dairy100, you are the smart one, not sure about your customers.  The guys who got rich during the gold rush were the ones selling the shovels, the miners didn't care how little their chance was of finding gold, they blew their money on equipment just to have the chance.  BTC mining is similar, people are blinded by the prospect and are willing to pay for anything that gives them a minute chance.
556  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Some mystery rig in China on: November 03, 2013, 03:28:34 PM
Ya, a close-up would be nice, hopefully tomorrow.  He did say it was a company in SZ, just re-read it.  Wondering if it is a stolen pic, lots of that going on over there.

Who knows whats available or possible there though, I read somewhere that something like 90% of all electronics have at least 1 component manufactured in Shenzhen.

Rluner,
I said I know I missed the boat, I told my friend so as well.  I'm just curious about just what this all is.

My friend in Shenzhen sent me this pic alluding that it may be a rig in said city.  That's it, no other info.  He asked if we could rent a cheap office and make one too.  I don't know much about mining or equipment, except that I missed the boat.  Still interesting though.  Hopefully more info will come later.

Anyone have any idea what these could be, and how many GH/s this "rig" could do?

559  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What a surprise! Bitcoin find on: October 28, 2013, 07:59:31 PM
Haha I love when this happens.  Never found 300 though.  I have 2 wallets with forgotten passes that total about 12 BTC, tried that service with no luck, found 2 in some casino site ( got 'em at 3USD ) in april, 6 on an old HDD a few months ago, and bunch of other small stuff.  Had so many when they were worth under $10 I was like hood-rich with them, sending everywhere.  ADHD+BTC=LOL
