How Long is the IRS Taking to Approve Form 1023 Applications for Exemption?

Question:  If my nonprofit corporation files its IRS Form 1023 today, how long will it take before the IRS issues a letter approving the corporation as a tax-exempt Section 501(c) charitable organization?

Answer:  See the the IRS’ web page called “Where Is My Exemption Application?” to determine how far behind the IRS is in reviewing applications for tax-exemption.  We know of organizations that have received favorable IRS determination letters as quickly as six weeks and as long as two years after submitting applications for tax exemption.

Thankyou donors for helping with the filing of the 1023, it's now currently in the process to be filed. News will be posted in the future.

Thankyou anonymous donors for helping us reach our goal!

Were at 522$ right now and need around 278$. I'm about to donate blood plasma tomorrow for 50$. The filing for a 1023 is almost within reach.

Vod you should stop before you get yourself into trouble you know how many people can sue you for online defamation?
None. If this ever happens I'll reach out and relocate him to a safe place because he doesn't deserve to get sued. He probably prevented hundreds of scams. What people don't realize is that he is not perfect, he is a human like all of us. It is normal for him to make a mistake or sometimes get carried away a bit.

One would try suing Vod who is (was) trying to prevent scams rather than trying to sue people who ran scams (especially in the altcoin section). This just shows the overall intelligence of people in this place.

I wonder though why this goes on? Vod has left the forum for the time being, why are you trying to annoy everyone with this nonsense?

The law is the law, and nobody is above the law. Lady Justice is blind and does not discriminate. While I don't think anyone feels like pursuing litigation, nobody is exempted from it, even if someone has a good reputation.

In a perfect world there should be equal justice for all. If someone does something wrong, an equal and fit punishment shall fit the crime. A police officer who saves lives and protects will still be answerable to the law if he breaks it.

Once again VOD has gone too far and has now left me negative trust because he did not like the fact I criticized his abuse of the trust system. In order to prove he does not abuse the trust system he has abused the trust system to leave me a negative rating:

Vod 16: -0 / +9(9)   2015-01-06  0.00000000    "Constantly posts lies about me in an effort to have me removed from the default trust list. Honest discussion is one thing, but he just posts BS with absolutely no basis.

Not trustworthy."

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=15728

My goal was not to have you removed from the default trust list until now.

Previously I was simply trying to get you to check your behavior, but now I can see you have no interest in that only digging your trust abuse hole even deeper by accusing me of lying about you and attacking my reputation with a false trust rating. This is clearly an abuse of the trust system in order to silence my criticism of his activities in his abuse of the trust system. I have told no lies about VOD, and I challenge any one to quote anything untrue I stated about VOD. Regardless, he accuses me of things that are not scam related in a very clear attempt to put a chill effect on his criticism, posted in the appropriate areas where such criticism belongs.

I challenge the staff to now remove him from the default trust, because he clearly has no intent of restraining himself if this is how he responds to just criticism. He seems to believe he has some kind of special authority from staff that protects him when he abuses the trust system. Staff, here is your chance to back your denials of preferential treatment for Vod with actions.

He's quick to jump into conclusion, makes assumptions, blatantly shit-talks and becomes the "savior" and "does justice". While the intention's are to do good and prevent scammers, he goes too far. I'll prove my points.

Background: I'm helping to fundraise for homeless veterans and children or homeless women and children. I have some knowledge on how to use bitcoin and want to see if people could help with donations, I go through websites and find this one.

1. First of all he goes to the conclusion to assume my gender first of all, I am not a "she". I'm a guy. Also he doesn't have any knowledge of the law, he doesn't understand the fact that charities can be tax exempted or not (Image below)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. I am raising money for a charity to get tax exempted status, I stated it in my first post. He doesn’t have knowledge again of what a charity is.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SOURCE: My first post

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Of course the money is unknown where its going, it's an anonymous bitcoin transaction.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. He goes to the assumption that I'm confused but I've stated FOUR TIMES that it is my friend's website

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SOURCE: MY THREAD, POST #5 AND POST #21 https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1074543.20

(TWO PRIVATE MESSAGES)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4.He goes to the extent in going to the fundraising website and automatically assume it's a scam, degrading my fundraising efforts and the reputation of further fundraising.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I show legal paperwork that it isn't a scam:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5. He automatically assumes that he talked to the site owner again(Which he thinks its me), and after I post the legal paperwork, he goes to the extent of saying it is not a nonprofit organization when the papers have already been filed.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yet the papers state "This corporation is a nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation and is not organized for the private gain of any person. It is organized under the Nonprofit Public Benefit corporation Law for: (checked: public purposes) (checked: charitable purposes)" SOURCE: My thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1074543.20

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EVIDENCE: Officially filed by the government also

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

6. He also is ignorant of the fact that corporations can be charities which I already showed the papers. He again shows he is ignorant of the law he states that I am not a real charity for the fact that there is no tax exempted status yet.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Legality explained, by the legal dictionary this time that corporations can be charities

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In return the real founder of the fundraiser and the website in replies to the mess, noting his assumptions and confusion, he didn’t remove the comments, leaving it there and she had to get the site moderators to pull it down, the charity leader graduated from UCLA, MAJORING IN LAW and was an outstanding student volunteering in many goodwill activities such as soup kitchens, etc.:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He quits before I can even clear my name

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This guy has jeopardized my efforts in fundraising for homeless people and smeared the reputation of it. I ask the audience to make a judgement if he's going too far.
6  Other / Off-topic / Re: Help make my charity tax exempted (http://aroofaboveus.org/) on: June 01, 2015, 07:38:18 PM
Legal definition of charity:

"1) in general the sentiment of benevolence, doing good works, assisting the less fortunate, philanthropy, and contributing to the general public. 2) an organization which exists to help those in need or provide educational, scientific, religious and artistic assistance to members of the public. Charities are usually corporations established under state guidelines and require IRS approval in order for contributions to them to be deductible from gross income by donors."

SOURCE: http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/charity

"The Concept of Charity under the Internal Revenue Regulations has slowly evolved and expanded. This evolution can be seen from the changes in the regulations over a number of years. Early Treasury regulations provided that:Corporations organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes comprise, in general, organizations for the relief of the poor. The fact that a corporation established for the relief of indigent
persons may receive voluntary contributions from the persons intended to be relieved will not necessarily deprive it of exemption. Treas. Reg. 118, section 39.101(6)-(b) (1943)."

SOURCE: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-tege/eotopicb80.pdf

Charities may be tax exempted or not tax exempted. But a charity is "Corporations organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes comprise, in general, organizations for the relief of the poor."

There isn't any rules broken. For the fact that it isn't tax exempted doesn't change the definition of charity,

1. Charities are usually corporations established under state guidelines (True)
2. require IRS approval in order for contributions to them to be deductible from gross income by donors. (Working on it)

I'll change the title, "Help make my charity tax exempted"

It is a corporation with charitable intentions when filed.

Sigh.  You are not a charity.   You have not filed yet.

Is it your site or your friend's site?

Anyway, I'm beating my head against a wall.  I think we have a communication breakdown.  I hope you get your charity status.  But don't claim to be one before you actually are.   Undecided

Good luck.

Friend's site too, thankyou. I just want to say it's not a scam.

I'll defend my statement, it is a charity. Just not tax exempted. Here is another government website that it is active if you search it up.

11  Other / Off-topic / Re: Please help me raise money for my charity (http://aroofaboveus.org/) on: May 30, 2015, 04:27:48 AM
I see that it has the not registered status, the 501(c) has been already filed so it is a charity but not a complete charity until it the 1023 is filed. More legal paperwork will be posted on the website (the bylog, articles of incorporation, etc). I'm just a person trying to promote.

My intent of the advertising is for the 1023 tax exempt status. I'm showing to the audience that the intention of the charity is to be tax exempted, it is up for the person to decide if it is good to donate or not.
12  Other / Off-topic / Re: Please help me raise money for my charity (http://aroofaboveus.org/) on: May 30, 2015, 04:03:48 AM
I called the founder and she says that the charity has already been filed (as shown above) but there is a bunch of steps for filling a 1023 and it is worth 850$ (I made a mistake, that was the link to the 1023 and not the 501(c) because it is already filed). The 501(c) is already filed, pardon me on my confusion because I'm not a lawyer lol. Also the charity money goes to housing and the real estate part of the charity also. So I may have misconstrued what I meant, I'm only raising money for the 1023 but the 250k also goes to the real estate part of the charity and other things.

Thankyou haha, I know I'm going headstrong on the advertising with the charity so I don't know what to expect in reply. I just want to do my best.
