It would be very helpful if people would stop making up stories about a scam unless there is actual evidence for it… Moreover, it would be extremely helpful if the people whose transactions went through, would post a confirmation in this thread.

Am I the only one getting zero response when e-mailing the various exchanges; are they haunted or something? Specifically talking about - Bitcoinica (support inquiry sent 11 days ago, still no answer after several bump e-mails) - TradeHill (support inquiry sent 21 days ago, still no answer after several bump e-mails)
I truly don't get why serious businesses treat their customers like dirt.
What are people's experience with the MtGox support?

Sorry to be asking this here, but I guess I'm not the only customer with this question (and I haven't really gotten any e-mail response to this either):
I wired 300 USD just before the bank problems were announced. It bounced back as 217 USD, meaning some $83 got lost to accumulated overhead *somewhere* (no, it's not due to a sudden jump in currency rates)
Firstly, I'm not willing to finance whatever bank issues Tradehill is having, and ask that my account be credited with the outstanding amount (please make a statement on this Jared).
Secondly: WTF! $83 in overhead!! Now my excitement and motivation about Bitcoin just reimbursed!

Whenever I accumulate more bitcoins I will save half of them and spend half back into the economy.

OP is being just a little too nostalgic and afraid of change here. The leap to the qt-gui is great. All of the minor details that OP lists should not be taken too seriously.

I'm just tired of seeing propaganda (e.g. on the UN best of lists) that the scandinavian socialism is so good, when in fact close to 80% of a typical person's income goes into taxes in some way or another, and one have to settle for whatever the government hands back to you. The typical Swede does not pay 80% in taxes. The typical Swede pays 25-30% in taxes. You're talking about income tax. Add sales tax, car tax, property tax, inheritance tax, import/customs taxes, liquor tax, tobacco tax, gas tax, fortune taxes, stamp taxes, CO 2 tax, and double taxation on some of these and you're quickly approaching 80%. Calculation for norwegian conditions

I think you need to add "a new system emerges", ie. not one that is necessarily better than Bitcoin inherently, but more practical and appealing to law abiding citizens (I'm thinking Google mobile payments and the like)

As you suggested, the coins were just stuck in line to be included in a block, as they're now in the right wallet Considering how freaking fast I quit the client upon getting the "coins sent" message, I can pretty much confirm that it's safe.
|
|
|
Well, it's been about 5-6 hours, and I didn't go with an explicit fee in the client settings so I guess it could be a matter of waiting.. It's never happened to me before, so I figured it had something to do with my handling of the software.

|
|
Does the "coins sent" message in the official client mean that the transaction has actually been successfully broadcasted to the network and thus that the client is safe to shut down immediately afterwards? The reason I'm asking is because I sent a coin recently, got the dialog box confirmation, and shut down the client pretty hasty, but the coin is still not registered with the receiving address (not even a 0/unconfirmed).

I'm from scandinavia and I really don't give a shit whether we managed to stand upright through the financial crisis or not. We're getting less free every year with increasing privacy intrusions and ever increasing taxes to fund the paychecks of a growing state-employed & political elite. Sorry to disappoint any leftists "looking to norway and sweden", but this is just not working out at a base human level. The only thing I can appreciate about living in a humongous welfare state is that going Galt is pretty damn comforting!
I have no idea what "going Galt" means. Apart from that what was mentioned in the article was that Sweden has done quite well recovering. They have done so by "meddling" in the market, which goes against the Austrian school which many here subscribe to. I found that interesting and thought I'd get some comments on that. I'm sorry you feel less free. Where would you rather be? Are there other places that you feel "work out" better at a base human level. I suddenly realized that my rant may have been perceived as an attack on you for posting the article, which of course is not the case, thank's for posting. I'm just tired of seeing propaganda (e.g. on the UN best of lists) that the scandinavian socialism is so good, when in fact close to 80% of a typical person's income goes into taxes in some way or another, and one have to settle for whatever the government hands back to you. This way, wealth is distributed somewhat evenly; however, it's at the point of a gun, and the collectivists aren't satisfied with people's money, they want to control our lives as well with very intrusive regulations in the private sphere. The numbers usually only show statistics about material wealth – not happiness and quality of life. Going Galt: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Galt#Cultural_significance

swinewine, here's something you might want to consider for those not wanting to add funds first, then tip: create plugins for all web browsers that interacts with the bitcoin client and sends tip to the right address, thus when clicking "tipit", you actually tip immediately using the client. Also, the whole deal with enforcing www.youtipit.org is quite annoying.

BTC4C is a COMPLETELY non-profit website
Please clear up for me "BTC4C is a 20% project by Geekworks, LLC", I don't understand.
