I don't see why you want mtgox "dissolved", it already took a pretty hard hit and it will be punished for it without you gathering acknowledgments for your opinions in this thread. People can think for themselves, and when considering which exchange to send their money to, the recent mishappening will probably not qualify mtgox to the top of their list of choice.

Looks like the kind of hashes that come out of phpass. I guess that means if the attackers managed to get hold of the salt, I'm prone to change my password.

How about supporting The Free State Initiative, it aims at doing pretty much what you ask, create a new state (in the size of a giant city) with everything free market. The people behind have stated that it has a fair chance of achieving its goals within few years.

Thanks! I've bought the last couple of copies, nice articles presented in a neat way; however, you should consider proof reading the texts before publishing, too many typos in this one. No offence to ploum, the content is nice, but proof reading shouldn't take forever Keep up the good work!

I must agree with MemoryDealers, lobbying is amoral and slow. Better spend the bounty money on building the economy; "attack is the best form of defence" and so forth…

as we all know bitcoins' supply is finite, so everyone out of greed hoard the things. they don't spend it at all, like a currency is supposed to be used for and so it will never become mainstream.
Wait and see. The moment people can expect new bitcoins flowing in with the paycheck each month, there be spendin'

Bitcoin is supposed to be a currency. The venus project calls for society without an economy. I'd rephrase it from "does bitcoin fit in with zeitgeist" to "how on earth could the venus project fit in with anything?" Centrally planned societies don't work.

The common man will think badly of bitcoin if all he gets to associate it with are images of illegal goods and services, plus tax evasion. So instead of reaching out to the common man telling him about the truth; that taxes imply coercive use of force, and that "illegal goods" are not criminal, but criminalized, you will just keep the lie going on and on…

It's a great idea, but unfortunately it doesn't work when a .bit site uses vhosts. I don't know if this is used by a large % of the hosted domains, but at least for me it's 100%

I think it's a good idea, Iceland has like 300k inhabitants, so building a national economy on top of Bitcoin should be feasible in the short term? I'm also curious what will emerge to be the currency of choice if/when The Free State Initiative manages to establish it's proposed trade zone. Bitcoin could be very much applicable to that potential economy.

I'd hate to pay loads of cash to buy an ICANN administered domain name, when you know Namecoin decentralized dns will catch on soon.

would anyone else be interested in an additional online wallet to compete with myBitcoin? Yes. One with (optional) fund insurance would be nice too.
