101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 24, 2014, 02:10:36 AM
sure i strongly assume its ok. When I access the site it is reported that  Mal/HTMLGen-A was found... probably a false positive...

I will double-check it but it's most certainly a false positive.
Thanks for reporting this.

you're welcome.
Any update?
I need to be able to send xcp! People want to buy..
What is the fastest and safest way to get there?!
I am trying this for days now... super annoying.
Nothing against you. Highly appreciate your efforts!!

It appears perfectly clean to me.  Out of all scans made by urlvoid and virustotal, only bitdefender flags the domain (not the binary itself) for some reason. So, definitely sounds like a false positive.  Plus we plan to move the boottleXCP builds to a new, official website a few days from now anyway.

Computers these days really are too paranoid. It takes three attempts to run this file. First, Google Chrome tells me it can't be trusted and suggests that I discard it. I click "keep." Next, Windows Smart Screen says it's from an untrusted source. I say "run anyway." Finally, Norton 360 quarantines the file and I have to tell it to "restore" the file. Then, after all that, I can finally run it. It's like the modern nanny state has come to computers!

Wow, didn't expect so many hurdles.  I'll see what I can do to make this smoother in the future.  Out of curiosity, what reason does Norton give?

the first thing that happens when I open http://dre.natverk.org/BoottleXCP-0003-win3264.exe is "phyton.exe isnt working anymore - looking for a solution"... It doesnt start.
Anyone has the same problem or knows a solution?

Do you use a non-English version of Windows?
Also, try the latest build, which is BoottleXCP-0004 (see above post)

yes I use non English Windows...
bitdefender blocks the link http://trax.x10.mx/BoottleXCP-0004-win3264.exe  . How can I know its safe?

Well it's signed by me and guaranteed to be clean. I do encourage you to verify the SHA256 hash and GPG signature to be on the safe side. Also submitting new binaries to virustotal.com is often a good idea.

Jah's GUI worked great last night, but this morning when trying to send XCP I'm getting:

transmit() got an unexpected keyword argument 'ask'

Using latest binaries from firefly.

Sorry for that! i miss one modification in counterpartyd 6.1. I did a push with fix:

https://github.com/JahPowerBit/BoottleXCP

Thanks! Firefly can you post an updated binary?

I guess you're talking to me Smiley
Stay tuned... I will prepare a new build as soon as possible.

Here we go. You can grab it from the below post. Does it fix the issue?

Self-contained Windows builds for the JahPowerBit GUI client can be found in this thread:

https://forums.counterparty.co/index.php?topic=74.15

Note that they are still in alpha. I would greatly appreciate your feedback (especially, does it install properly on 64-bit Windows? No DLL errors?) so I can improve future builds.
109  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: signing a message on: February 22, 2014, 12:18:14 PM
I have a bitcoin address in my "receiving -> used" list. I need to sign a message with this to prove to an external party it is mine.

So I select sign from the drop-down menu for the address, type in a message, hit the "Sign" button and get a signature.

Great so far, except then I go to verify, paste the address and signatures in, hit "Verify" in and it just says

Error: wrong signature

I am using Electrum 1.9.7 on OSX

What am I doing wrong here? Surely the verify function should work on a signature I've just created from a key?

Please help.

Make sure you provide the address, signature, and the message (you only mentioned the first two)
110  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] chainsnort (cross-platform console transaction monitor) on: February 22, 2014, 10:44:33 AM
I've posted the current RPC skeleton code there:
 https://gist.github.com/flatfly/9151814

I didn't have time to further work on this in the last few days, unfortunately.
If people are interested in Windows builds, do let me know.
(And donations do help get things done! Smiley)

Announcement: Desktop GUI bounty funds to be distributed.

The funds at the bounty address amount to:

  • 7.41790989 BTC
  • 1856.13963636 XCP

There were two submissions for the "desktop GUI" bounty - one from JahPowerBit, and one from btcfanatic. Between these two users, funds at the bounty address will be split thus:

  • JahPowerBit will receive: 4.45074594 BTC and 1113.68378182 XCP
  • btcfanatic will receive: 2.96716395 BTC and 742.45585454 XCP

In other words, JahPowerBit will receive 60% of the bounty funds, and btcfanatic will receive 40% of the bounty funds.

JahPowerBit has demonstrated enthusiasm and initiative, and has made a functioning web GUI. He has also detailed his plans for the future, and has recruited other community members to help him achieve the goals he has set out.

JahPowerBit's GUI has wider functionality than btcfanatic's, but btcfanatic's architecture was more what we had in mind. With that said, we imagine users will have a harder time getting btcfanatic's GUI to work than JahPowerBit's.

While both GUIs are cross-platform, they lack build systems for Windows. Going forward, this is very important.

We strongly encourage the community to get involved: test out the GUIs, interact and collaborate with the developers, and give them feedback. Counterparty is a community driven project, and will progress most effectively if the community works together.

Thanks very much to both JahPowerBit and btcfanatic for participating in the Desktop GUI bounty, and helping the Counterparty protocol become more user-friendly. And thanks to the community for providing donations, to help motivate developers.

We are discussing further bounties which should leverage what has been achieve with the desktop GUI bounty. Please stay tuned.

btcfanatic and JahPowerBit, please email your addresses to <bounties@counterparty.co>.

This is cross-posted from the bounty thread on the official Counterparty forums.

EDIT: Of course, here are the GUI submissions:

If anyone figured out how to get this working on Windows. Please, post instructions.

I have posted a first Windows build for the JahPowerBit GUI (BoottleXCP) here:
 https://forums.counterparty.co/index.php?topic=74.msg760#msg760

Be aware that this build and the BoottleXCP GUI itself are both still in alpha - although the build process is based on my previous Electrum and Chainsnort builds, so that should be pretty robust already.

will this be in line with the bug fix?

Yes the build includes the counterpartyd 6.0 update.

113  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Flatfly Electrum builds [1.9.8] for Windows on: February 18, 2014, 06:01:35 PM
Minimal build 1.9.8 is now available from:
 https://github.com/flatfly/electrum_win_builds/releases/download/1.9.8F1/electrum-win32-1.9.8.exe

As usual file hashes are posted on:
http://dre.natverk.org/elecwin.htm
114  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Flatfly Electrum (1.9.8) builds for Windows on: February 18, 2014, 05:58:50 PM
Thanks. Any chance to see an official electrum 2.0 soon?

I have no idea about the roadmap, you're more likely to get an answer by posting on the main Electrum thread.
115  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How can I receive all the latest transactions? on: February 18, 2014, 05:11:13 PM
Chainsnort uses Blockchain.info service. I think he wants to create his own tool without using Blockchain.info service

Actually an RPC connector for chainsnort is under development and a first minimal version is about to be posted... (See latest replies in that thread)
116  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Tx unverified in Electrum but confirmed in Blockchain - Funds not received on: February 17, 2014, 08:59:12 PM
Update: Just got the funds... but Electrum is still reporting unverified transaction hmmm

Just close and reopen Electrum, that should fix it. It happens from time to time.
117  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Check incoming transactions for address on: February 17, 2014, 07:00:00 AM
Set txindex=1 in your conf file then use getrawtransaction. Or have a look at chainsnort.
118  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How can I receive all the latest transactions? on: February 17, 2014, 06:56:32 AM
One word: chainsnort Smiley  See the thread in project discussion.
119  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] chainsnort (cross-platform console transaction monitor) on: February 16, 2014, 09:29:27 PM
I changed to 16 connections. Anyway if you could upload the latest source code to github or something someone might be willing to help. I think my coding skills is a little to bad but I will take a look for sure.

Thanks. Seems to be back to 8 connections now though. Did it consume too much bandwidth?
The blockchain.info websocket stream was down for much of the day so I couldn't compare results yet.

Later this week, I will clean up the code and post it so other devs can help.
120  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty Protocol, Client and Coin (built on Bitcoin) - Official on: February 16, 2014, 08:37:41 AM
How many coins are there ? 21M ?

2,648,755.92
http://blockscan.com/default.aspx

This number can only go down (asset issuance currently consumes 5 XCP per asset.)

Where do those 5 XCP go?
Does this mean all XCP will be consumed eventually?
Sounds strange...

Yeah, I haven't done enough research yet...
