1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's the next big thing? on: September 07, 2015, 08:06:56 PM
BIP 100 is awful, if its adopted its the death of Bitcoin for me at least dump and buy Litecoin maybe?

But then if BIP100 gets adopted purely because of miner majority even if the userbase doesn't want it, it would actually highlight a major flaw in cryptocoins, namley that hash power would be able to force rule changes against its users, which is far more dangerous than a 51% attack, it basically means you can never trust in the rules of any coin anymore (so no, moving to litecoin isnt the answer), for they are no longer this stable set in stone neutral thing that was so attractive in the first place, but a thing that can change due to the will of a few.

I dont believe BIP 100 will be adopted simply because of hash majority, but if it is then Bitcoin is flawed and the next big thing would be a coin that has a voting mechanism that goes beyond just hashpower some way of seeing what nodes relate to what entity's so consensus on any update can be be gauged over a wider spectrum.
2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BIP1xx DynamicMaxBlockSize on: September 07, 2015, 07:38:52 PM
People were always talking about this, dont know why it was never proposed earlier as a BIP. But its very difficult now for any BIP proposal to get accepted regardless of if majority want it because miners will never vote for anything other than BIP 100 now its been suggested.

Unless you take a different approach and fork based on 90% or so of node majority rather than using hash majority, but you wouldn't want to do that without first confirming there was already a very strong consensus within the economy for the BIP.
3  Bitcoin / Electrum / How to change location of wallet? (external harddrive) on: January 31, 2014, 02:19:02 PM
I want to install electrum to an external harddrive and have the wallet on the external harddrive also. Therefore I can simply unplug the wallet after use and only plug the harddrive in when I want to use it.

Is there a way to change the wallet directory?

Thanks
4  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The real reason mtgox changed the api without no notice on: March 24, 2013, 05:09:36 PM
No, its not Mtgox that are slacking, in fact they are the only ones that are not slacking which is why everyone is using them. Its everyone else whos involved in this field of expertise failing to provide a service. If I was in the game of exchanges I would start a bitcoin exchange for the UK for example, but I cannot do that because its not my field of expertise and if I begun today it probably wouldn't be operational for years to come, but people who are involved in exchange business already could.

6  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Plugin for selling BTC's? on: January 21, 2013, 02:19:57 PM
Over the past number of years, I've seen literally hundreds of people try to do this, set up businesses that accept reversible payment methods (like PayPal, Google checkout, Skrill) for irreversible Bitcoins, and it never ever ever ever worked out well for the owner. There is a reason this plugin doesn't exist and that there are no sites that offer this.

People have tried thousands of different methods to do this, sending the privkey for the bitcoins in the mail, ID verification etc etc and it NEVER worked out. Its extremely easy to purchase CC details nowadays and your site will become a target for fraudsters in a matter of hours, nevermind the fact that anyone can use their own CC and dispute the charges and win every single time.

No. converting the funds to BTC instantly won't work, how are you going to do this? even if you do manage to do this you'll see debt collectors from the payment proccessor knocking at your door looking for the money.

PS. I've previously worked for a large payment processor (not PayPal) and I can tell you straight up doing this will ruin you. You may as well just send me all your BTC for no reason, you'd probably have a better chance of getting some of it back than doing this.

I work in law and its not as simple as you say, Yes the chargeback is extremly easy to make initially as its nothing more than a claim but if someone makes a chargeback its afterwards they have a proof of claim to fullfill that they didnt receive delivery.
Proof of delivery will be in the terms that the address supplied recorded the receipt in the blockchain, (therefore your establishing a private contract prior to sale) this is already agreed to and documented for any record needed in court.

How is the shipping of products in general retail sales reversible?
7  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Plugin for selling BTC's? on: January 21, 2013, 02:02:10 PM
" but regardless im not interested in the issue of chargebacks I just want to know if theres anything available for letting people sell BTC's."

Same reason there isn't a wordpress plugin which allows you to randomly corrupt files on your webserver.   Not being interested in the issue of chargebacks is horribly naive.  Bitcoins can never be reversed.  It is pathetically easy to reverse a digital transaction.  Take however easy you think it is and it really is 100x easier.   A brain dead chip could steal from you day in and day out with a plugin like you are asking.

If you want to accept reversible funds for irreversible funds then you should do the heavy lifting yourself and hopefully in the process realize how horribly risky and likely unprofitable it will be.   It seems you want an "easy button" which would merely be an easy button for losing money.

DeathandTaxes other peoples risk is none of your business so will you go away now please? I'm not interested in your opinion of chargebacks, im asking about functionality only, if you've got nothing to add dont add nothing, its ok.
8  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Plugin for selling BTC's? on: January 21, 2013, 01:47:07 PM
But theres still a legal standpoint meaning if someone makes a chargeback they have to prove their claim, also what if all funds where converted into BTC's as soon as they were recieved? but regardless im not interested in the issue of chargebacks I just want to know if theres anything available for letting people sell BTC's.
9  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Plugin for selling BTC's? on: January 21, 2013, 01:24:40 PM
Im trying to find something that will allow me to sell bitcoins, I have searched all the wordpress plugins and all the ecommerce software that supports Bitcoins but its all designed for accepting bitcoins as payments and not selling.

If I knew how to code I think it would be pretty simple, I would just need to create a shopping cart that fetches exchange rate data from mtgox for example and then multiply that value by the quantity entered and then allow payment by google checkout or somthing.

Does anyone know if anything like this available anywhere?

10  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Db::open: Invalid argument bitcoin in Runaway exception on: November 16, 2012, 02:15:34 PM
I go to open bitcoin today and get this message  "Db::open: Invalid argument        bitcoin in Runaway exception"

The client doesnt open at all, The wallet.dat does not seem to be there either...?

Suggestion was to run using -detachdb option, but I dont know what that means or how to do it.

Can anyone help.

Your debug.log will help give more of a clue as to which file it is getting that error on.

You can run -detachdb during startup using the command line.

When running options is it just a case of right clicking the shortcut in win7 and changing the excute line to add -detachdb at the end? Ive tried that with no results.

Ive confused myself here by placing the bitcoin directory into a truecrypt mount thinking that was the directory but is it correct to say bitcoin will always use the windows application data folder? which does contain the wallet.dat, so I wasnt actually protecting anything, lol.

I have the debug.log is it safe to publish it? Im not very technical savey.

Id like to know what the claim of illegality actually is.
13  Economy / Securities / Re: Class action against FSA? on: October 10, 2012, 07:44:35 PM
Why the FSA, why couldnt it be the SEC? Just because he told everybody that he was planning on registering as a EU company doesn't mean he wouldnt be on the SEC's shitlist radar.

Apparently hes based in the UK therefore the SEC would not be involved, but its all speculation if the GLBSE dont tell people exactly whats happened which people have the right to know.

He might not of even been approached by the FSA but we can deduce from the fact hes asking for details for money laundering that he has.
14  Economy / Securities / Re: Class action against FSA? on: October 10, 2012, 07:33:53 PM
Jeez what is wrong with people?

Just the title of this thing. Sigh.

why dont you expand on that. Sigh.
15  Economy / Securities / Re: Class action against FSA? on: October 10, 2012, 03:19:20 PM
If there was _any_ action taken toward GLBSE and or James McCarthy (nefario), there is a public record of this action.
Have you seen this paper?
Has anyone seen this paper?

what public record are you speaking about?

Are you referring to public court records? that only happens when you go to court, up until that point its just claims and remains private so no record.
16  Economy / Securities / Re: Class action against FSA? on: October 10, 2012, 03:12:54 PM
I want to see what the GLBSE has to say first, why they havent told us anyway makes no sense, they should be telling us exactly whats happening.
17  Economy / Securities / Class action against FSA? on: October 10, 2012, 03:05:56 PM
GLBSE is asking for data for verification for money laundering therefore we can assume the incompetent people at the GLBSE have had action taken against them by the FSA.

Should we sue the FSA? They are directly responsible for our loss's, they have no lawful authority, Bitcoins are not defined as money by the government, the GLBSE does not deal with Bank Of England Notes. Even if it was lawful for the FSA to take action they have not followed their own proper procedure as they have not secured our funds and securities before taking action. Any claim the FSA makes is exactly that a claim and remains so until verified in court.

Heres a similar example in the real "fiat" investment world.

18  Economy / Securities / Re: Verifing account of GLBSE discussion on: October 10, 2012, 01:56:57 PM
If James McCarthy (nefario) would provide information and say the FSA are asking for identification or exactly what the problem is because he has said nothing.

But until then to send in your photo ID is stupidity, your photo has nothing to do with linking your account it wasnt part of the signup process.
19  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Bitbond 200Gh/s - the only 105% PPS mining bond on: October 10, 2012, 01:36:14 PM
Hi everyone-

GLBSE closing is unfortunate and frustrating to all of us.  That being said, I truly believe the Bitcoin community deserves a better marketplace than what Nefario was providing.  This could be an opportunity to create a far better exchange that will help to catalyze adoption and growth of Bitcoin.

That being said, I am evaluating alternatives that we can use in the interim. Even if we need to transact directly in the interim I am open to that.  As far as I am concerned, there is no change to BITBOND.  Once I can get bond ownership info, I'll proceed with weekly payouts. Until then, the payouts will be banked.  As bondholders you will receive the payouts you are entitled to.

Regarding the ASIC upgrade.  I have revised the upgrade path quite extensively (e.g. there is only a free and paid upgrade - no small, medium, mega, etc.).  I intended to release the upgrade info today (bad timing!).  If current or prospective bondholders are chomping at the bit to know the upgrade plan, I can share it.  Otherwise, I'll focus on where to take BITBOND after GLBSE.

Its great to see some competence in the bitcoin community. I think I had about 80ish bonds but I cant remember exactly without having access to glbse, how are bond holders identified without the glbse?

20  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Have Questions about GBLSE Shutdown? Ask Matthewh3 (Unofficial Spokesperson) on: October 09, 2012, 08:03:39 PM
Nothing returned yet, no reply from their email.

More importantly how are we going to get our shares returned?
