3621  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: APMEX now accepts Bitcoin! on: December 04, 2017, 02:47:03 AM
This is something that is incredible in my opinion but i see it with mixed feelings. Dont get me wrong i have been a customer of apmex bullion for a few years and i really like them. The only issue is i dont know how i feel about using one store of value of bitcoin to buy another store of value like gold or platinum. Obviously bitcoin has appreciated at a much faster rate than other precious metals as well as stock markets.

You can always buy more bitcoins.
3622  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the long haul get ready for the different crypto's records once all coin on: December 03, 2017, 08:56:39 AM
The block reward consists of transaction fees plus the subsidy. The subsidy halves approximately every fours and at some point in the future (maybe 10 years), the transaction fees will exceed the subsidy. Eventually the subsidy will go to 0 and miners will be paid only fees.
3623  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin without mining on: December 02, 2017, 09:03:59 AM
Can i get bitcoins without mining?

Buy them. It's a lot easier than mining. This post will be followed by pages of newbies telling you different ways to "earn" bitcoins. Don't listen to them. Buying is the easiest, fastest, and most effective way to obtain bitcoins.
3624  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-01] CoinDesk: Bitcoin Is an Emerging Systemic Risk on: December 01, 2017, 09:43:24 PM
Coindesk - "EXPERT: BANK RUN ON BITCOIN IMMINENT"
...
The real newsflash: Bitcoin was designed to prevent anyone else taking control of your money. Bank runs are meaningless when you have 100% control of your money.

While you and I have 100% control over our money and the article does not apply to us, 90% of the people with bitcoins do not, and it does apply to them.

Furthermore, when custodians choose to lend or otherwise encumber the bitcoins that they control, there will be a risk of a bank run. To say that you and I would not be affected by a failure because we control our bitcoins is naive. Just look at what happened when Mt. Gox went under.
3625  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How does BIP39 work? Is all the information in the seed? on: December 01, 2017, 06:46:05 PM
odolvlobo,  you have only mentioned about how a deterministic seed can be used to recover the account, but you (no anyone else) has addressed the question:  Where is the actual data stored?  Recovering the password to an account is great only if there is actual coin (data) in the account.  But If I loose the device, and there is no data, how is the data recovered?  Where is the actual data?

The seed is the data.

Perhaps you aren't aware that a wallet doesn't actually hold coins, it holds the private keys that allow you to spend coins. You could say that the coins are stored in the block chain, though that's not entirely accurate.

Also, I recommend against use of the word "account" unless you mean a bank account or an exchange account. The meaning is ambiguous except in very specific contexts.
3626  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Telegram channels can pump a coin by 50%-200%... on: November 30, 2017, 09:18:19 PM
Hi! This channel gives 80% accuracy trading signals for crypto-currencies, it's called Asian Whales Club.

https://t.me/<pump-and-dump scam channel>

Oh look! It is yet another telegram pump-and-dump scam!

What does 'Pump And Dump' mean
Pump and dump is a scheme that attempts to boost the price of a stock through recommendations based on false, misleading or greatly exaggerated statements. The perpetrators of this scheme, who already have an established position in the company's stock, sell their positions after the hype has led to a higher share price. ...
3627  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Explaining Forks on: November 30, 2017, 09:13:55 AM
A block chain is a history of all transactions. New transactions are grouped into a block and appended to the chain. This appending of blocks is done separately by all miners, so there is a possibility that two miners may append blocks to their copies of the chain at the same time. When other miners see these two new versions of the chain, they must pick one to append their blocks to. Eventually one will be longer than the other just by random chance, and at that point, all miners will switch to that chain because that is the rule.

Now, miners only accept valid chains. A fork occurs when some nodes believe that one version of the chain is valid but the rest of the nodes believe that is is not valid. If the two groups of nodes cannot agree, then there is a permanent fork as each group continues to append blocks to their version of the chain.

This can be done on purpose, as in the case of Bitcoin Cash. At the announced time, a Bitcoin Cash miner added a block to the chain that Bitcoin Core nodes considered to be invalid. Bitcoin Cash nodes consider the chain with this block to be valid so they continue with the version of the chain that includes the block. Bitcoin Core nodes consider the block to be invalid, so they continue with a version of the chain without the block. Since they can't agree, there is a permanent fork in the chain at that block.

My guess is that you don't have enough to pay the mining fee.
3629  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-11-29] How to Buy Bitcoin When Underage on: November 29, 2017, 10:21:10 PM
One reason for banning children is that they cannot be legally bound to a contract. Another is the risk of non-compliance with the internet child protection laws and regulations in the U.S.

Creating laws that prevent hypothetical criminal activity is law-making at its worst.
3631  Economy / Economics / Re: popularity of bitcoin dictates demand, means more profit on: November 29, 2017, 08:45:27 AM
in my opinion, this is what happening right now as the trend of bitcoin price has been sky rocketing.  what do you think affects the price increase of bitcoin today?

Mostly speculation. People are buying bitcoins and expecting to make money when they sell at a higher price.
3632  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Mining on: November 29, 2017, 08:43:09 AM
Bitcoins are mineable while other alt coins are not mineable.

Many coins other than bitcoin are mineable.

So apart from being technical guy if anyone want to set up a mining firm,
What are the minimum set up need for mining any coin and what would be the profit?

Let's categories minimum set on basis of different class who wants to setup a mining by themself.
a. Student  b. Short Term investor(less than 3 people) c. Big investor(min 10 people)

The minimum for Bitcoin is going to be about $1500. That is about the cost of a single S9 ASIC miner. The minimum for mining most other coins is the cost of a computer.

Profit depends primarily on the cost of electricity.
3633  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Help - Cloud Mining - genesis-mining on: November 29, 2017, 08:37:12 AM
Cloud mining is not recommended. Most cloud mining sites are scams. Genesis mining is not a scam, but it is unlikely that your investment will make a profit (compared to just buying the coins directly).
3634  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: For the life of me can't buy any Coins on: November 29, 2017, 08:34:59 AM
Most of the coins you listed can only be bought on certain exchanges, and only with bitcoins. That's just the way it is.

I think the situation exemplifies the saying, "not your keys, not your bitcoins".
3636  Economy / Economics / Re: The value of bitcoin? on: November 29, 2017, 07:40:43 AM
But price doesn't mean value. Yes, price is rising, but value is the same and it's the biggest problem as for me.

Value is subjective. While you may believe that the value of a bitcoin is below the current price, the person that bought at the current price believes that the value is above the current price.
3637  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can i re-use BTC adress in my case? on: November 29, 2017, 07:07:07 AM
You didn't explain why ypu want to reuse an address.

1. It is possible to re-use addresses, though there is rarely a good reason.
2. Unless I'm missing something, Electrum doesn't let you specify the change address.
3. The size of a transaction does not depend on which addresses are used.

3) YOu are wrong AFAIK...adresses which have a lot of inputs (like a public donation adress where people sent you a LOT of small transactions) actually ARE bigger in data size (Kb) and thus they might be more expensive to sent, since in bitcoin you pay sathoshie/per byte. That means the bigger the "adress" (the more inputs or outputs) it has, the biiger its data size is and thus the more you might pay to spent such adress... YOu didnt know this :-O...??

Perhaps I wasn't clear. If your transaction has three inputs, it doesn't matter which addresses are associated with those inputs. Whether they are all different addresses or all the same address, the transaction is the same size.

So, whether someone sends you 0.001 BTC to a single address 1000 times, or 0.001 BTC to 1000 addresses, your transaction sending 1 BTC will be the same size.

3639  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Transactions when buying coins on localbitcoins on: November 27, 2017, 10:21:53 PM
  • I am still reading, but if I buy from, say localbitcoins.  How do I know if the person is giving me one single transaction or multiple small ones?
  • Will the person advertise he selling price, but when I buy, I will be slam with high fee because of number of transaction?
  • Are fee already built-in in the price saw on localbitcoins?
  • When buying from localbitcoins, can I choose and guarantee to use fast/slow transactions and pay corresponding fee?
  • Individual seller on localbitcoins, their prices varies from coinmarketcap.  Beside finding seller with 1000+, anything else I should watch out?
  • If say I want to buy 10 coins in total... if I have the money. What should be my buying strategy given localbitcoins ppl are selling in like 1 coin?

When you buy on localbitcoins using their escrow system (and you should), then the bitcoins are immediately deposited in your localbitcoins account. The transaction does not go through the block chain. It is managed completely by LBC's accounting system. You can withdraw them to your own wallet at your convenience.

As long as they stay within the escrow system, buyers are very well protected. Buyers run into problems when scammers convince them to go outside the system.
