Kraken is getting the shout out for being the first exchange to take some serious steps towards proving their bitcoin solvency. Their solution ( https://www.kraken.com/security/audit ) is not perfect but it's better than what any other exchange has done so far. It's going to be just 2 weeks because it's not a full proof of solvency i.e. it still depends on trust to the auditor. I'm happy to promote them because based on my talk with them my subjective opinion is that they know what they are doing.

They plan to release audits quarterly. I definitely would like to see these more often, and with direct proof of control of the bitcoins. I hope this is just a first step to a better future when such proofs become a standard. But a lot of this depends on the community. You can ask your exchange to improve their transparency, and you can vote with your money.

comboy,

I don't mean to bash, after all it is the best step taken so far by an exchange on par with what bitstamp did already some time ago.
But as someone pointed out on reddit these audits are not comprehensive since only BTC reserve ownership is proven and the fiat reserves are not.
And this basically invalidates the BTC audit because you could very easily turn fiat into BTC for the audit and then go back into fractional mode.
Just be careful with the votes of confidence and always do your own thinking.
Props for the great site anyway!

2. The purpose of trading on Bitstamp?
3. What is the origin of the deposited Bitcoins? If mining, please specify your hardware specifications and submit a receipt or an invoice for your mining equipment.
4. When and how did you obtain your Bitcoins?
5. What is the reason for your activity - depositing BTC, selling, withdrawing?

What is the time they need to process the answered AML questions?

No more than 3 business days in my case if I recall correctly, for sure not 1 week.

Please add the following to the BLOCKED list, they have refused my 20k USD withdrawal from Bitstamp (taking more than a week and then deciding without providing any explanation, typical frenchy bankster style):

Country: Luxembourg
Bank: ING Luxembourg
Transfer type: Wire USD

Date: 28/02/2014

Thanks!

So i finally got my money back through paypal.

Like some previous posts said, if you get turned down because you missed the time window to file a claim, just call back and try to get someone else that will help you.

Explain to them that they havent shipped to anyone that ordered from them and they are most likely a fraudulent seller.

I wound up filing mine under "didnt receive goods" and still got my money back. They escalate your claim manually on the phone and then terrahash has ten days to respond. They wont of course.

Then you can watch in your resolution center from the paypal site. My claim actually went to 13 days and it still said "waiting on seller to reply." I gave paypal a call and the person that i talked to told me that they would close it and i would get my money back and an email within the next ten minutes. Two days went by with nothing changing so i called paypal again, went through the same conversation with someone else and told them about how it didnt get resolved two days before hand. They apologized and told me that they would stay on the line as they closed the claim. They did and i got 250 credited to my paypal.

The moral of the story is, paypal isnt perfect. The deterrence of escalating a claim after the time window is probably in place for good reason, but in this case we legitimately got fucked over and we need to let paypal understand it.

thanks for posting that, are you going through paypal US? did you talk to fraud or normal resolution staff? how far outside the 45day window were you?
sorry for the interrogation, just looking for some ammo to help with my next call:)
Im in the US and i use paypal.com, i guess that means paypal US right? I think yeah.. haha

I originally put my order through on 6/19/2013. I was one of the people that got first access to order because i had an account prior to them opening sales.

10/16/2013 is when i tried to open a case through the website, only to be closed immediately. "The claim is closed because it was opened more than 45 days after the transaction date or did not meet the filing criteria."

10/17/2013 is when i called paypal to make a claim and escalate it. I had told them that i didnt receive my product and that the seller hasnt sent anything out to anyone and it is highly likely that they are a fraudulent seller. They put my claim through and i had to wait ten days for terrahash to have a chance to respond.

10/31/2013 i called to get it closed because it had been more than ten days, only for nothing to resolve from it. Must have been a bad paypal employee or someone new or careless. Who knows.

11/2/2013 is when i called and got the refund initiated. The day later $250 was credited to my paypal account and the case was closed.

Glad to hear people are still getting their money back!

Some questions:

Any non-paypal money being returned? [Won't even ask about BTC payments...]

Any way to contact TH?

Any advice for suckers like me people who paid with BTC? Internet Crime Complaint a stupid idea?

Thanks for any help!

6  Economy / Services / Re: Butter Bot!: New Bitstamp, BTC-E, and MtGox EMA Trading Platform on: November 06, 2013, 04:01:44 PM
Very interesting discussion these last few posts, especially now that we are so high that a correction is ever more likely.
Perhaps things are different now vs. April but still my gut feeling is that this just sounds too good to be true (no need waste keyb strokes grilling me for posting a personal view, eh?!).

I'm quite curious and have setup a poll: http://micropoll.com/a/mpview/1146756-3814481
(cannot figure out how to embed nicely in the post...)

I've also been emailing the developer regarding a workaround for those who e.g. have to go to work and would like to have Butter Bot installed in two computers but actively running alternately in one of them.  Running several instances simultaneously is NOT recommended!
Sharing it below until a better solution such as hosting is offered, it has been confirmed as OK by the developer.
Take care

**************
Workaround for 2 chrome instances running Butterbot:
To be able to ensure Butterbot is running 24/7 I'll have to run it at work on one pc and then close it at the end of the day, reopening it at home on another pc.
I have butterbot installed on both Chromes (work / home) but configured with different API key/secret sets.
I will be activating/deactivating the API sets manually from the exchange dashboard (possible in Bitstamp, you would have to check the other exchanges) to have either one or the other instance of Butterbot actually actively trading, thus avoiding having them active simultaneously while being able to have both pcs on all the time with their respective Chromes and butterbot instances running.

10  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: 0.25 BTC Bounty - Show me a Mt Gox USD Withdrawal :) on: July 15, 2013, 01:42:28 PM
My situation:

Over 12k USD stuck at MtGox spread over 2 wire and 2 SEPA transfers, all in EUR.

Average SEPA delay 21 days and counting...
Average wire delay 17 days and counting...

Replies from MtGox support are copy-paste and they ignore requests for more information on specific status of my transfers:

Quote
"Hello,

We sincerely regret for the inconvenience caused to you at this point of time.

Please note that SEPA withdrawal are currently taking up to 3 weeks to process due to the sheer volume of withdrawal requests in queue.

If your withdrawal is larger than 10,000 USD or equivalent then it will take at least 1 month to process.

Once the funds processed from our end, we will update you on it.

Best regards,

Mt.Gox Team"

I believe this cannot be just an inept management/support service - something fishy is definitely going on.

Hi, so far you've been one of the most helpful, honest and profitiable (dividend wise) bitcoin venture I've put money into... Are you still waiting for a secure colored coin platform or similar before re opening your doors to more investors etc? I ask this because I'm interested in some more shares...But would also like the abimilty to easily liquify the shares as I see fit..So would only be comfortable trading through some stock exchange medium. Bitfunder doesn't float your boat? Anyway, thanks bye.

Bump.

Meni, should you find the time please let me know too, I'd be interested in buying in.
And thanks for your honesty and being an exception around here.
You're not just getting BTC, you're getting karma points from many of us.
All the best

12  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Aricie: Announcing a new trading bots platform on: January 23, 2013, 10:51:16 AM
Hi Jesse,

I am using your MtGox bot on https://dnnbitcoin.aricie.com/.

It can access my account on MtGox and perform transactions, but these are always very small.
Here is a typical example:

*******
Ask(s) (Sell)

Order Filled at: Wed 23 Jan 2013 10:14:49 AM GMT
        Amount: 0.05428000 BTC
        Price: @$17.15474
        Total: $0.93116
**********

I've looked at other users' bot configurations, especially the ones with top earnings and I do not detect the differences vs. my configuration (which is 100% default, by the way).

Thanks in advance for your help!

Meni can you update us on the next steps?

I'd curious about next dividend payment (when/how) and the progress on implementation of coloured BTC.

Thanks again

14  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] PureMining: Infinite-term, deterministic mining bond on: November 27, 2012, 05:14:57 PM
Meni, just wanted to send massive kudos your way too.

My GLBSE investment was about 90% PUREMINING bonds, as other mentioned chosen because of the nice risk/reward ratio.
You've been extremely correct and helpful in our communication since the GLBSE crash.
I am very happy (and suprised) that this all ended up almost without any loss for myself, mainly due to your stance.
I got my dividends already (100% since the GLBSE closure) and am really not worried about where the bonds will be listed/kept later on as you'll surely make a good decision. Count on me for future investments.

And to everyone who still didn't get their funds/bonds back... sincerely hope things work out for you.

All the best

15  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Nefario on: October 28, 2012, 08:44:34 PM
People aren't going to try to sue nefario.  What they're far more likely to do if he continues to piss them off with his "fuck you" attitude is draw his activities to the attention of the very authorities he was hoping to avoid getting scrutiny from.

Good Luck to anyone that tries to push that through. It will be a difficult path for anyone that tries to grab the authorities attention for someone who has zero-to-negative assets to forfeit.

I think it will be difficult to get the authorities attention for a pirate figure; the bulk of his assets are in internet money.

The SEC already is after pirate. Its not that they dont care. They are searching more infos, victims and so on to create a strong case. You can provide info here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=120119.new;topicseen#new

And regarding nefario... you can be sure that at some point someone is going to government. And this would make it worse for all of us but mostly for nefario. So when he keeps hiding at his position his fear to have to pay his errors out of his own pocket wouldnt be the smallest problem for him.

16  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Legal Actions against Nefario on: October 28, 2012, 07:30:28 AM

You must be kidding? Misappropriation of funds is a crime and should be punished by law. Nothing to do with GLBSE beeing illegal. He just ran away with our funds. Thats how I see it.

From what I understand he passed these funds through to fraudulent asset issuers. He was just a middleman. It's a bad idea, but he didn't really profit that much himself.

I hope we can identify and pursue the asset issuers to recover the investors' money.

If he doesn't pay back a dime nefario won't get anything out of this. Perhaps a couple thousand bitcoins, but thats less than a years salary for a normal person.

Ideally you would pursue the asset issuer. If they can't be located I guess we can assume it is nefario.

You're trying to move the focus of this to issuers?
Sure many of them are scammers too, but if a GLBSE user loses btc that way it's his responsibility for not having done enough due diligence/ being greedy and stupid (pirate fund investors).

First off, let's handle things with the person who started all the troubles for most of the users, that's Nefario and his stab-in-the-back GLBSE closure.
Then, if/when users have been returned BTC and proof of the assets held, other procedures can take place agains select issuers.
I can assure the asset issuers of the assets I held will own up to dividends at least, once proof is made available.
17  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Legal Actions against Nefario on: October 27, 2012, 06:49:07 PM
talk is cheap.
Time to walk the walk.
You do as you which, but I believe you will get nothing from taking legal action against Nefario and I think it can be solved with communication better then with threats.
//DeaDTerra

Sorry, but you're being ridiculous.

Communication? He has not communicated shit to users or asset holders, except the ones in his scammy inner circle.
And we have to swallow all the shit that is posted here as "official" based on private phonecalls and other unverifiable sources.

Threats? Well, first he stabbed everyone in the back, closing and withholding all your without btc/assets without even a warning - that is worse than any threat.
And at any rate, he's resorting to threats and blackmail too, now the website says he'll only resume processing account closures when all the btc he sprayed around comes flying back.

So, no thanks, keep your details for yourself, there are enough around already.
And if James wants to talk, he's been notified by email.

That's all folks, let the games begin.

BTW personally I don't think this is the way to get my assets back.
But there is no other way, so fuck it, let's get James into some hot action at least, he brought it on himself.
18  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Legal Actions against Nefario on: October 27, 2012, 04:10:07 PM
I support the action and sent James an email letting him know about this, in case he wants to do something right for once and explain what, how and when he's going to finally clear this mess. Not hoping for any twists in the plot though. Not even that he reads the email.
19  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Legal Actions against Nefario on: October 27, 2012, 09:56:53 AM
Maybe it is possible to get it done for free.
This is US-based, don't think they'll go for UK stuff? Maybe.
http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

The best would be to get hold of a UK-based agency.
[edit: here is the link for the UK agency:]
http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/

And well... we might all do down together, but at least no one will be laughing, right James?
20  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Nefario on: October 25, 2012, 01:32:54 PM

Check your spam folder, that's where my e-mail ended up.

maybe my BTC is there too?  Grin
