im just trying to see which brand is unlocked because i dont want a situation like im in now with my 7970
the sapphire dual-x's are unlocked (core and memory voltage). I get about 690-720khash out of it for scrypt. I also get about 680-700 mhash out of it for sha. even with fans at 100% it is VERY quiet compared to the gigabyte cards. and it even comes with an HDMI cable.... was a nice surprise

keep in mind the newer rev2.0 versions are voltage locked. they are mining BEASTS. I can, in a decently cool well ventilated environment get 670 khash EACH from them. they also get 630 mhash at 1200 core clock. the rev1.0 can't get quite as high as its VRM's aren't heatsinked and will overheat at over 1150mhz, they are voltage unlocked though so they are much better if you want to run at something less than maximum clock speed. source: i have some of both

now where are you users who are putting out 70-80mhash at the pool.. show some pics yo!

I have free electricity atm, so the voltage etc dosent really matter for me. Should i still go for the 7950? Kinda had my mind set on that 7970 your temps will drop like a rock if you get that voltage to the proper level.. typically i have it at 0.05v above my mhz level. its WAY better for your cards, you'll reduce how fast you heat up the room and it'll be quieter with the fans slowing down some for example: 1.0ghz = 1050 (1.05) voltage in afterburner also.. the 7970 is about 5-8% faster mining vs a good 7950.. but 33% more money (400 vs 300 usd in the states)

4.3 mhash
rig 1: 7970 - 700khash rig 2: 2x7950 - 1.3mhash rig 3:2x7950 (daily use machine) - 1.25mhash rig4: 7950/7870 - 1 mhash

Do the 1GB, 2GB, and 3GB models affect KH/s? I'm not sure if I should spend more money on the cards with more RAM unless it adds to performance.
for the most part no. (based on my memory) 1gb = 7700 series 2gb = 7800 series 3gb = 7900 series for each of those cards, you won't ever need more ram than is required for optimal settings. Memory bandwidth matters though, however that seems to scale decently with # of cores 7770 = 200khash 7870 400 khash 7950/7970 = 650-700 khash

well the pool is supposedly still at 2.1g/hash so a LOT of people are still mining there.

OP, the reason MSI Afterburner reports the graphics cards by their series and not by exact model, is because the series share the same BIOS, and that is what Afterburner reads by mapping the ROM.
I understand, why would one 7970 be reported as "7900 Series" and another supposedly more or less identical 7970 be reported as "7900 Lightning?" load up gpu-z and post up a screenshot.. that will show quite a bit more specific information regarding the chip/bios etc.

Placing a order for my first 7970 on monday:)
SAPPHIRE RADEON HD7970 DUAL-X 3GB, thats the one i should get, right? Been reeding in this thread, seems like khash/s is pretty poor on those factory overclocked Ghz editions.
If you want a MUCH better value, get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125414I have 2 of those.. and 1 of the 7970 sapphire dual-x. the 7970 gets 690khash.. each 7950 ($100 cheaper) gets 670+khash

.... Will be the first one that isn't exchangeable?
Seems like It's the trading for $€ĄŁ that's the problem here..
Wouldn't a coin that can only be a)mined and b)exchanged for goods/services, be much less volatile and susceptible to manipulation?
so it would succeed because it is worthless?

PLease post a pic of the case.
it takes a LOT to keep a 2x7950 in a concealed case cool.
my "desktop" with 2x7950's is in a corsair 400r with 2x 140mm fans on top, 2x120 in front, 2x 120 on the side and 1x120 in the back, and it STILL runs hotter than my open air setups.

Bump intensity to 18, no you shouldn't be able to move the mouse much.
are you stupid go troll somewhere else and learn about this GPU anything above 12 on 7870s will result in crash card HW errors or full system crash depending on revision of GPU PS to OP I am still messing around with my GPU and will help you get more results. If you want to mine other alt coins I can easly get 415MH/s for SHA256D And I know you want scrypt so ill keep working out here for you learn more about these cards before you post such falsehoods.. see my post above with settings that have gotten me 400 khash for MONTHS now. if you have the proper thread concurrency (16000) with a g 1 and w256 you can run at intensity 20 all day long. it took me quite awhile to figure it out, but i finally did (right about the time tacotime came out with his guide, he helped me out a bit to)

For 4K I reckon you could get 3 rigs built with 3 7950 each cards in. Maybe 4 rigs at a squeeze using cheaply found kit.
Each card on bitcoin should give you 550mhashes or there abouts.
So 9 x 550 = about 5Ghashes or 12 x 550 = 6.6 Ghashes
not to shabby, but pricey at 4k
i just built a rig with 2x gigabyte 7950's (the $300 model on newegg.. rev 2.0) does 630 mhash and 670+ khash (scrypt mining) rock solid and a beast. DOES NOT UNDERVOLT, however. this is a card for balls to the walls mining, not undervolting/low heat applications.
|
|
|
Why do i say that?
Well for starters this thing will do 630 mhash/s and 680 khash/s (for scrypt).
that is absurd.. i have a sapphire 7970 that can barely do 680 and 720...
for balls to the wall all out mining this card is tough to beat.
it IS voltage locked however, which is a downside compared to the rev 1.0.
however, the rev 1.0 had no heatsink over the VRM's.. so those things were the limiting factor for the clock speed.. take it over 1150 for BTC mining and poof.. thermal shutdown.. the rev 2.0 does 1200 all day long no issue.
so.. just my thoughts. anyone else use this card?

Clock speed is very important. I tried many settings to come up with what I did. Increasing above what I posted always littered hash rates. The 7870 is one crazy chip.

|
here is how i got 400 with my 7870 (gigabyte 3x fan version)
core: 925 mem: 1375 voltage:0.987 (or 987 in msi afterburner)
cgminer settings:
--scrypt --thread-concurrency 16000 --intensity 19 -g 1 -w 256

if it forks, do i retain the coins i already have or will i have to remine them?
think of a fork as a Y... anything at the bottom part of the Y is OK, both chains include it.. but anything after the split.. well you just have to hope your transactions/coins are on the side that eventually gets accepted.
|
|
|
honestly.. it was almost sort of like a digital run on the banks. instead of a physical bank bursting at the brim with to many people to serve, their websites became overloaded. prices started freaking out, more people started selling.. and then today people started sayign "ok.. enough is enough.. lets stop things here for awhile"
now mtgox, fastcash4bitcoins etc are not in operation currently and the price is hovering at 70-80 usd.
|
|
|
oops. sorry about that.. didnt see the big red button there
|
|
|
Nobody can take your bitcoins away. Not even MtGox.
they absolutely can.. if they somehow go belly up, get hacked.. etc the BTC you have on deposit is technologically speaking THEIRS (you alone do not have the private key), you just trust that they will be good to theri word and transfer back to you or convert it to fiat upon request
