1  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Will Russia Emerge As The Next Dominant Superpower on: February 23, 2024, 12:18:30 AM
Can we revisit this topic?

I would be curious to know if public perspectives have shifted over the last few years.
2  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Reversible computing is the future. You need to know about this. on: October 13, 2023, 12:50:48 PM
Insects are theorized to have optimized behavior patterns. Allowing them to exhibit intelligent behavior with a large variety of contextually varying inputs. On a limited computational capacity.

This is something tesla has struggled to replicate with their self driving AI.

Optimisation is one potential path to reducing the number of state changes necessary on silicon processors to reduce necessary instruction execution and save energy.

Compression might be another potential method.

Branch prediction is another candidate. Improved branch prediction leads to a greater number of cache hits and pipelines not needing to be reset.

Etc.

This is ground intel has covered since the introduction of the pentium 4 with hyperthreading.

On an implementation level, there is a question as to how "reversible computing" might work in real world application.

It might be possible although there isn't anyone pursuing it afaik.

The majority of processor gains stem from using smaller lithographic scales to etch silicon wafers. That's where the majority of research and focus is at. Smaller nanometers. There isn't anyone thinking about improving architecture.

I like the comparison of new and emerging technologies to the One Ring in LOTR.

New technologies like atomic bombs grant people power. (Like the one ring granting Bilbo Baggins invisibility)

But there is a question as to whether that power elevates us, or seduces us in a way that is regressive over the long term.
4  Other / Serious discussion / Re: HACKING OF GOVERNMENT WEBSITES on: October 13, 2023, 12:23:37 PM

what do you think about government sites that are easy to attack? shouldn't government sites have adequate security?

While government servers and sites have been compromised many times over the years.

It is possible the vaticans servers have never been hacked or defaced publicly.

Which is both interesting and funny to think about.

20+ years on the internet.

I've never muted or blocked anyone.

But I am feeling tempted.

Due to an insane number of spam bots, who are determined to fight to their last breath, to always be wrong about everything.

 Cheesy
6  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Green computing on: October 13, 2023, 11:54:03 AM
How would you propose to implement "reversible computing"?

Compression? Optimization? Better branch prediction? Improved multi threading? Bigger symmetric multi processor? Bigger cache?

Not only is there not a buzzword for what you're proposing. It lacks an instruction set.
7  Other / Off-topic / Good crypto communities other than bitcointalk? on: October 13, 2023, 11:12:29 AM

What are the best crypto communities and forums on the internet, other than bitcointalk?

Are there good coding resources to refine basic knowledge of crypto algorithmic functions?

Share the wealth.
8  Other / Off-topic / Re: PHP developers - please stand up! on: August 22, 2023, 06:22:57 AM
I used to write php apps to breakdown and improve strategies for turn based games.

But it has been more than a decade since I've touched it.

With recent trends toward dynamic pages and html5.

And more recently web3, meta and defi.

Is there still a good niche for php development?
9  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to teach children about money? on: August 22, 2023, 06:19:16 AM
Medical researchers sought to quantify how detrimental it was for babies to be born addicted to crack cocaine.

They did a long term survey where they tracked the development of babies born addicted to crack comparing it to control data for average performance of youth in terms of academic and workforce achievement.

What they found is being born and raised in poverty was more debilitating for a persons health and overall life expectations, than being born addicted to crack.

It seems children absorb energies and attitudes present in the environment they grow up in.

Perhaps that is a good place to start.

"300 mile range."

Exercising my inner skepticism.

I'll go out on a limb and predict Pedro Munhoz defeating Marlon Vera.

Judging from Vera's last performance, it seems he isn't training. He's not working hard in the gym anymore.

http://mmadecisions.com/decision/14234/Marlon-Vera-vs-Pedro-Munhoz

14 media outlets scored the fight in favor of Pedro Munhoz.

Only 3 thought Marlon Vera won.

I'll take that as an acknowledgement of accuracy.

Nick Mahmood and Marcel Varela appear to be new judges in MMA. (I don't recognize their names)

It could be a good idea to avoid gambling on matches where they are judging in the future.
12  Other / Off-topic / Re: If you think you found Satoshi? on: August 20, 2023, 02:15:18 AM

I wanted to ask what you would do if you thought you found Satoshi..

Let's say you found someone who fits the bill perfectly.
Every detail even down to a extended hiatus from end of 2008 - 2011. (when Satoshi "moved on" to other thing)

The person is very much alive today and is still working in the technology industry.

Satoshi Nakamoto unfortunately passed away in 2013.

Zero chance of that happening.

Weight loss 101

1  consume less sugar
2  exercise

If you wake up one day. Pee on an electric fence and are shocked.

What do you do?

Some make better choices, learn new skills and improve themselves.

Others pee on the electric fence everyday. It being the only thing they know how to do, while being too stubborn to change.

People would be shocked and surprised.

If they knew what was written in the bible.

David Lynch's Dune movie from 1984.

Still the best Frank Herbert adaptation of all time.
18  Economy / Economics / Re: The Impact of Russian African Alliance on World Economy on: August 19, 2023, 01:12:12 PM
Seeing all of these, what do you guys think will be the impact of the Russian African alliance on the world economy. We know there is no war right now but the rhetoric and tensions all over is being felt worldwide. Would the world economy suffer or would we be fine?

While residents in places which do significant export - import trade with africa might be affected.

The rest of the world probably won't notice repurcussions.

What do you guys think really drive all the government and platform like this new Platform vanguard, BlackRock and some other companies which holds 88% of the market in US

How the East India Company Became the World’s Most Powerful Monopoly
The massive British corporation was founded under Queen Elizabeth I and rose to exploit overseas trade and become a dominating global player.
Quote
One of the biggest, most dominant corporations in history operated long before the emergence of tech giants like Apple or Google or Amazon. The English East India Company was incorporated by royal charter on December 31, 1600 and went on to act as a part-trade organization, part-nation-state and reap vast profits from overseas trade with India, China, Persia and Indonesia for more than two centuries. Its business flooded England with affordable tea, cotton textiles and spices, and richly rewarded its London investors with returns as high as 30 percent.

“At its peak, the English East India Company was by far the largest corporation of its kind,” says Emily Erikson, a sociology professor at Yale University and author of Between Monopoly and Free Trade: The English East India Company. “It was also larger than several nations. It was essentially the de facto emperor of large portions of India, which was one of the most productive economies in the world at that point.”

But just when the East India Company’s grip on trade weakened in the late 18th century, it found a new calling as an empire-builder. At one point, this mega corporation commanded a private army of 260,000 soldiers, twice the size of the standing British army. That kind of manpower was more than enough to scare off the remaining competition, conquer territory and coerce Indian rulers into one-sided contracts that granted the Company lucrative taxation powers.

20  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The reason for the aggressiveness of the "Russian world" on: August 14, 2023, 06:16:18 AM
I would be interested in knowing what percentage of the world views russia's stance as being one of an oppressive and evil power.

In past times, influencers checked which direction the wind was blowing before pushing their narratives.

Today, they don't care what public opinion is, they simply say whatever they like.

It is an interesting departure from historical norms.

One wonders what the long term implications will be.
