Unless you want to upgrade your PC to play around and you have free electricity, I would suggest purchasing coins.
As for the GPUs playing nice together, try it and see. I know some that mix as you want to do with good results while others complain of constant issues. Personally, I have never tried it as I have several boxes with only 1 brand in each. Good luck with whatever you decide.

i'm legitimately concerned for dank and this girl that hes stalking.

Fortunately he only moved 100 miles away from home.  Hopefully he still has enough contact with his family that they'll realise something's wrong when he starts melting down.

100 miles is a long way to go when a dude kicks in your door screaming "WHY WON'T YOU LOVE ME?".

Slip these on and click your heels. Can you feel the love in the air?

Mining stresses a GPU more than Boinc. Yes, I do both.

I doubt it will be long before CPU mining is unprofitable.

It's going to be difficult to be unprofitable with "free power" and any hardware ready to go.

Agreed... people seem to be tolls around here.

So should i be on Litecoins now? whats the profit with litecoins?

Bitcoins: Buy low, wait, sell high.

I use Gox or occasionally a Skype friend will buy small amounts with Paypal. The latter does require some trust.

It gave me an excuse to upgrade some hardware. (Like I really need that) I tried mining quite awhile back but was too dumb to realize solo wasn't the way to go for a small farm. Some time later a fellow team mate in Boinc suggested I try again using a pool and it kinda stuck. I've used most of my mining to pay for hardware/electricity for Boinc but now I'm just collecting coins for awhile. Mine on.

My guess is to bring the difficulty down. Some people.........

Probably wrong place for this but here it goes anyway. Litecoin mining, I set up and tested 2-7970's using cgiminer. I also did the same for 58xx and 69xx series. The issues I am having are: The 58xx and 69xx series did well and showed decent hash rates both in the miner and on the account stats page, showing roughly the same rates. The 7970's did not. Cgiminer showed a combined rate of 1100+ kH/s yet the account stats page was not even close. I let it run for 30-45 minutes and I don't think I saw over 25 kH/s. No crashes and ran very well. Anyone have any ideas?
