if the cards are only using half the power, does that mean it would be possible to add twice as many GPU's to a PSU? got 4x 7950's running on a 1000W PSU, would be sick to get 7 on there. would need plenty of ide-pci cables though
3  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: cannot get 5850 to mine at all on: June 10, 2013, 02:52:44 PM
trying to get it to mine with 1 5580, but i have 3 others that i will use as well once i get one working. im using windows 7 ultimate 64 bit because im using itas an everyday computer as well

Well the combination that I am using with my 5xxx GPU's is Catalyst 12.1 and SDK 2.5 with Win7 32bit.

Make sure you have all old AMD drivers completely uninstalled and removed.

Do a selective/Advanced install of 12.1 and DO NOT install the OpenCL SDK/Runtime 2.6+ that came with it.

Then install OpenCL SDK 2.5 then try running with stock clocks and see if it mines.  If not then shut down and replace the card with one of your others and see if that works.  Maybe you have a bad card(s)?
Sam

ok, thanks for the advice. ill do that now

5  Bitcoin / Mining support / cannot get 5850 to mine at all on: June 09, 2013, 06:47:18 PM
Hey, having trouble getting my 5850 to mine. ive posted in the mining software section and realised it was the wrong one.

i have using cgminer and guiminer in 11.11 multiple times, however my drivers seem to crash, as i cant open GOM player or do anything like that. I get guminer opening int he taskbar and closing whenever i try to open it, and cgminer comes up with an error when i open it

in the latest (13.4) i get the 'verification failed, check hardware!' error, which from what ive read, is a problem related to new drivers not workign well with older cards

not sure where to go from here to get my cards mining. i think i am possibly uninstalling the drivers, im following this instruction file and then using driver weeper in safe mode

any help or suggestions as to how to get my cards mining would be greatly appreciated Smiley

reinstalled 11.11 after removing all parts of the drivers, and getting the guiminer minimising to the tray and disappearing problem. any chance this thread could be moved to the problems board?
7  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Problem with drivers and guiminer on: June 09, 2013, 12:43:35 PM
using a 5850 (3), hence the older drivers needed. ill have another go later and see if i can get 11.11 to be stable

Hey, so ive posted in here a few times recently regarding mytrouble getting guiminer to work. I get the 'verification failed, check hardware!' error for the latest drivers, and when i install an older oen 9ive tried 11.10, 11.11 and 12.8 multiple times each) the driver crashed Sad

any help regarding how to fix this would be great
9  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: trouble with drivers and sdk on: June 05, 2013, 10:39:29 AM
yeah. downloaded it again. it pops up in the taskbar and closes a second later
10  Bitcoin / Mining support / trouble with drivers and sdk on: June 05, 2013, 10:03:04 AM
hey, ive had trouble over the last 2 weeks trying to get guiminer (either bitcoin or litecoin) to work. on the latest driver (not sure about the sdk) i could get it to open but would not accept any shares, and when i installed 11.10 or 12.8 it would not open at all.

need some advice on which sdk and driver to download (and a link) and if i need to download a sdk separately or if i actually need one or which one etc, and how to get rid of the drivers/ sdk properly.

my apologies for the rambling, im so lost at the moment, any help would be greatly appreciated Smiley

12  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5850's and their noise on full load on: April 21, 2013, 12:19:44 AM
yeah, i am super interested in water cooling, but virtually have like sweet fa at the moment in terms of cash, and would rater get a few more 5850's. thanks for all the info, will definately take it on board. ill probably get 1 and see how it goes, i can always sell it if i find it too loud Cheesy
out of curiosity, do you find any setup/ mining software/ pool has better performance for the 5850's mining litecoin? ive had mine consistently getting 367kh/s using give-me-ltc and guiminer scrypt at 870/880ish, mem at 1000 and stock voltage, with fan at 100% (might drop it a little) and temps of70
13  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / 5850's and their noise on full load on: April 20, 2013, 08:08:29 PM
so im slowly building a bitcoin rig, and decided to go down the line of 5850's
i have an xfx non reference design (with the really small cooler) which makes a tiny amount of noise, and a reference design, which more or less sounds like a leaf blower, so loud D:

so wondering for those with sapphires/ toxic/ asus/ other 5850's, what is the noise level like?

edit: noise level is really important, i'm living in a really small room with free power, so its important that its quiet so i can sleep well and that its not suspicious.
14  Other / Beginners & Help / best miner and setup with 2x5850 on: April 15, 2013, 10:39:29 PM
hey, im sure this has been asked before, but i couldnt find any directly related to what i was after

im after the best settings for my 5850 (1 ref, 1 non ref xfx) and the best miners to use for both bitcoin and litecoin

i will be using the same computer for a variety of reasons, and i am wondering what i write as the instructions? i was using -v -w 128 or something like that back ine arly 2012 but i heard there were better instructions

all advice would be greatly appreciated Smiley

17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: laptop died with bitcoins, hard drive intact on: April 08, 2013, 05:14:17 PM
found it. now just get the latest version running right?

i think i might have another hard drive with a similar thing. do i just rotate the wallet.dat's in an out if i want to access them or can i do it simultaneously, or send the contents of one to the other?

sorry for my incompetence :/
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: laptop died with bitcoins, hard drive intact on: April 08, 2013, 05:04:44 PM
sorry, forgot to mention that i do have a caddy. i am only relatively computer able, i know my way around a computer hardware wise, but am pretty pathetic when it come to most things bitcoin

ill google where to find the wallet.dat. what do i do once i've found it? can i open it with the latest version or whatever?

edit: so many typos
19  Other / Beginners & Help / laptop died with bitcoins, hard drive intact on: April 08, 2013, 04:33:41 PM
hey people, i feel like i am stuck in some perculiar circumstances here. ive looked around a bit, but i can really only find information to get my bitcoin wallet back if either my hard drive has crashed or re-formatted
essentially, my laptop died, with what seems to be a power supply problem that is quite tedious and costly. the hard drive seems to be intact, however, due to oem windows 7 being installed, i dont think i can boot off the hard drive again
a point in the right drection as to what to do or which instructiosn to follow would be greatly appreciated Cheesy
